Im at a point now where I seriously need to learn how to speak Yoruba. I'm a young Yoruba man in my mid 20s and I've never been to Nigeria once unfortunately but both of my parents are from there as I was born in North America. When it comes to choosing a Yoruba wife, i feel it'll look bad if I can't speak or at least understand Yoruba and my mom has been on my case about learning it lool but I see the seriousness behind it now. I hope through your videos and other resources you offer, I can learn Yoruba so I can relate with people who are also Yoruba where I live and when I do eventually visit Nigeria.
i completely understand because my mum never taught me yoruba when i was young cause i live in the uk. I used to speak it really well up until the age of 4 but then I started going to school and learning english so my mum never bothered to teach me how to speak it again
That’s the story of all of us, the next generation let us down. They chose not to teach us out language under a false pretence of not wanting to ruin our English. Learn the verbs and you can’t start sentences. E.g Mon lo shop Im going shop
I relate but my parents were born over here in America and I grew up speaking English and learning a little Spanish. Blessing has helped me and my children to learn the Yoruba language and I've been practicing with some of my Yoruba family here in NYC. Making flash cards with index cards while watching these videos has helped me and my children a lot. We also tape some of the flash cards onto the walls to remember certain words. Now some of us "Akatas" are learning our languages thanks to the internet...lol I wish you the best on your journey.
My boyfriend is Yoruba I’m African American so I’m trying to learn for his family so I can speak to his mother and aunties! He doesn’t know much either so your videos are sooooo helpful! I was having trouble finding good resources
@@aeiou0123 it’s not shameful. Or his fault. he grew up in New York most his life and lived in Nigeria during high school then back to America plus none of his relatives taught him they wanted him to know more English but now bully him for not fully knowing it.

I'm so excited to learn😃 I was born in Lagos as my father is from there. My mother is from the states so she brought me back early and I never learned. Thank you for your lessons💚

Thanks a lot, My friend is Yoruba and I've been wanting to learn the Yoruba language to kind of surprise them and this has been a lot even if I'm late, thanks so much!
I still like the first one you did because I learned a lot as a new learner. Thanks for this updated version as well. I must learn my native language that I would be fluent in if I wasn't born abroad. ❤
SO glad I found you. You are the MOST comprehensive...the Best Yoruba instructor on RUclips. I could hold an Opening conversation now with just one lesson. Yes...definitely the best. When is the next scheduled lesson?
I love hearing different Languages.I am getting to know someone from Nigeria and he speaks Yoruba I am learning it but baby steps.I am from UK and I am not bothered where anyone is from
Great lesson sister. Providing the lessons using a conversation format is the perfect way to teach Yoruba. That way people can learn the language more naturally and even practicing shadowing to sound more like a native speaker. E se o!!! 👊🏾
I just found your beginner lessons. I'm so grateful for your help. Oko mi is still in Nigeria and struggles with English speaking at times so is struggling to teach me his language and I want to be able to talk with him and family.
Nice to meet you again i'm your follower since you begin Thank you. I'm Italian i have been in Lagos Ikeja on the 70/80 still remember some yoruba words. Go on with your nice video. Greetings from Italian old Pikin👍
Thank you my sister for these lessons. I'm connecting with alot of Yoruba brethren and it feels good to at least greet them in our tribal language even though I'm far from fluent. Also what helps me tremendously is listening to Yoruba worship artists like Tope Alabi ❤
My parents are Nigerian but I was born in the UK, Ever since I came to Nigeria, there are lots to people speaking Yoruba and I'm not able to speak it, even if I do, the pronunciation is always wrong and I'm always speaking in my fake Yoruba accent to not reveal mine, this vid is going to help me
Loveee the video. As someone who knows the Yoruba words and understands the language but cannot articulate my sentences at all. This has been a great lesson. I'm definitely calling my grandmother tonight!! But one suggestion, it would be great if at the end of the video, you could have like a conversation with yourself using everything we learnt in the video. Thanks so much for your dedication, all these years ❤️

Good job. E nle which actually is E pele is actually not acceptable to several Yoruba people. It is a greeting of Oppressor to the oppressed or unfortunate. It is a precarious phrase that must not be uttered to an inlaw. I've always watched you from the original episode 1 and i enjoy your input into the Yoruba world. Best wishes

Question: My manager is 20 years younger than me, but does having a position of respect change the greeting? Would I say 'E kaaro' because he has a higher professional position than I do? In my language, we always use the high respect
You’re missing the context and being pedantic. Ekaale is the equivalent of good morning good evening good afternoon. It is a form of hello. It id at night hence good night. Odaro is good night as a farewell. Completely different things.
