It’s very telling that the first words I understood from my childhood are insults and commands
Woow...tbf it's often the first words a lot of people understand especially non yorubas
Arent those everybodies first words XD
thats how nigerians always talk lmao
😂😂same my fist Yoruba word was an insult😂😂
Yeah i learned curses in Spanish first from my ma
i said the first word out loud and my Nigerian wife went nuts! Gotta learn to silence my teachings...lol.
😂😂
what does it mean?
@@lifeaslonnyv9392 She said that i put a bad curse on her, that this should NEVER be said. I never had her upset until I said it, but I dropped that conversation REAL fast.
@@lifeaslonnyv9392 the person is finished, something is wrong with their head. A BIG curse, daft. My wife is upset now because I asked her again for you. It's an insult, cussing you. She said it's the most terrible.
I am so happy that I found your challenge. I am Nigerian, half Yoruba half Egbo . Both my parents speak Yoruba. I don’t know Yoruba do to life situations. After watching this video I am most definitely sure I have been called these things. This is why I desperately want to learn Yoruba! I need to learn Yoruba
It’s never too late to learn! I’m sure you’ll be able to pick yoruba up!
Girl you just taught me alot. I watched alot alot of African movies and in love with the culture. The culture is similar to mine and wanted to learn a few words so I can learn a bit more. Hope to visit Nigeria someday.
Yes! Will use these only for self defense, lol 😂, though they weren't that bad..you really don't like to be mean to people! 👍👏👏 Thanks for making the video!
Loool it was sooo hard!! Couldn't imagine saying worse ones loool but please oo only for self defense haha
@@DiamanteBox oloriburuku can be a curse depending on the happenings it could mean an unfortunate person
She is so nice. Edit: Thanks for liking Diamante!
Video started 2:45
I have a couple lesson requests: More with verbs, especially how do you say things in different tenses (past, present, future etc.)
And a lesson on conjunctions and all types of little connecting words such as, and, or, if, but, however, because, so, when, which, that, who, to, for...etc.
Definitely!!
Yes, please make some lessons on the tenses of the verb, darling! Abegi! 🙏😃
I'm using this video in a graduate class b/c it's so much fun and helpful.
💃🏽💃🏽
Thank you for this. Also subscribed
thanks you so much for the videos it means the word to me we love for you being you

I also try not to insult and my parents rarely cuss or use vulgar language so I can relate! Love you, Blessings! -Bern
I’m here to learn cuss words to cuss out some scammers
lool
As a Ghanaian who speaks 5 Ghanaian languages and currently learning yoruba and kiswahili, I'm excited with this lesson. I promise I won't use it. Except Oloriburuku and Werey🤣
😂😂
How are you learning Yoruba?
Wowwww 5 that’s empressive
I thought Aje is a day of the week. I love Yoruba but whew 😅making sure to say things right is a huge must
Haha yeah, its incredibly hard but Ah-jay is what you're thinking of which is fortune and half of the word for monday.
This is Aje which is Witch (Ah-jeh)
@@DiamanteBox haha! Just asked my husband how to say “ the Monday witch” I am literally laughing.
"Ki lo mo se fu win?...Oloriburuku' 😂😂😂😂I said that to a Yoruba friend of mine who was mocking me...he started laughing and asked me where I learned that from.!😂😂😂😂
Alban Kassuere LoL
Lool
This video was useful for dealing with scammers who speak Yoruba though
Even in yoruba the insult are respectful comparad with western languages
Haha that is true!
I will do everything you said thx very much

I am lucky: in Nigeria I have learned only sweet words like ife mi and ololufe.
Aww that’s great!
Thanks
My cousin once called me solomakinde and he got in trouble for it. We both don’t know what it means
Solo makinde is a gossip i believe
That was great! Thanks for sharing love 💘💘💘
I really love it when Nigerians say....... Ah-Ah!!!
😂😂
I'm from South Africa and would like to learn more about Olodumare
Thank you very much for helping me sis curse my extremely ex-motherinlaw to return all she done to me , my tribes families, families, ex-inlaws families, ex-families friends, old friends, any others of friends i cannot remember of past, it is written do unto others as you would like unto yourselves what God cannot do does exist. Amen.
😢
I love insults;-;-;-; I can't wait to learn this
Lol.... Love this... Thanks... Hope to learn more...
Haha Thank you!!
I am noticing that some of the insults deal with ppl not being able to make smart decisions, or have the intelligence or good sense. Sounds like my Southern American upbringing. Can I say that Yoruba ppl value common sense, intelligence and decency?
Haha that is definitely true
Onisekuse many times referred to ladies who have sex around.
I don’t think Amebo is Yoruba.
Thanks for the insider sis!
I got you!! Haha x
Thanks 😘
Blessings, it’s so funny because the way they sound is exactly what they mean ❤️❤️❤️
How do you pronounce aiku and aie and can you do a video on short words that looks like it’s two words in stead of one
Aiku as in alive? = I-KOO
Aie = AH-YAY
It sounds like Haitian Creole if I’m not paying attention
Haiti is an African country basically, lol. when I first moved into East Flatbush Brooklyn and heard so many Haitians I though I had moved into an half African neighborhood instead of an all Caribbean hood. I ended up studying with a master Haitian drummer back then, but recently I was chilling with a friend from Benin City Nigeria and when he was playing his traditional music it was giving me serious flashbacks of Haitian traditional music
@@proverbalizer there is a branch of voodoo in the north, called nago...there are actually lwa in the pantheon like legba, ogou and chango, yoruba deities.
@@oritafilms yeah, Nago is the term for Yoruba descendant in Haiti, also in Brazil I believe. There are many different dialects of Yoruba and I think Anago was the name for one of the most western Yoruba groups in the region of Dahomey (modern Benin Republic)
@@oritafilms legba is a term we use for small gods in Ewelands, like Volta Region, Togo and Beni..
I had an idea but learned a lot. Our “dirty” word is kalakas ❤️❤️❤️❤️🖤
Ohh what does it mean.
@@DiamanteBox kalakas in Chamorro just means your are dirty. Like maybe you have to wipe your butt or something like that .... we say “eeee kalakas” like to go and take a shower 😅🖤♥️🪴🌊
you are the best
Thank you!
Starts at 2:38
Blessings, are you still doing tutorials or you finished all the Yoruba we need to know?
Haha I'll still be back!
Oloriburuku😂😭
Love love love you ... everything ♥️
Darling, I love your lessons so much! ☺The deeper I go into the fabulous Yoruba language, the more exciting it gets! 😇 You have been doing a fantastic job. Eku se! 😃 But can I get to know your real name? I mean the Yoruba name. Because Diamante Box just can't be good enough to me, you know... Lol. It's really important for me to know the name of the person I like and admire! Ki ni oruko re? 😀
I’m so glad the videos are helpful! My name is Blessing or Ibukun
@@DiamanteBox Nice to hear your name, oluko mi Ibukun! Ose gan! ☺😊
I have often heard my driver call "Mumu" to other wreckless drivers on Lagos roads! Wonder what that means?
Fool, idiotic
In Germany Mu´mu means cow. Wo´wow means dog, Ma´mau cat. a chow´chow is also a dog. Those are africans tribs, which went to Germany.
I love this language. I’m Zambian and learning
😂😂😂😂I loved this

My mom would always call me ode as a joke 💀
The Three Stooges -do you know them? In Japanese they are "The Three Idiot (Baka) Generals," and in Japanese "The Three Smelly Shoemakers"! Swearing , even mild swearing, is definitely cultural.
Please tell Me if being called "Sussy" an insult. ???
Thank You 🙏🏾

@Dominion Ogunjinrin Oh okay, thank you
I only watched this video to insult my British friends who do not know what I am saying

what does olodo rabata mean? i have heard it from samspedy LOL
Olodo means a stupid person, rabata is used to emphasize the person's stupidity. So Olodo rabata means someone who is very dumb.
What is a Yoruban expression of annoyance, like "bugger" or "bollocks" or "crap"?
Good question lol, i never thought of this, maybe something like 'Tori Olorun - For God's sake'
You could say rada rada for crap
Nice thumbnail ;)
What's the meaning of ashawo? Thanks
prostitute
Lilongwe is it an inault
Thank you so much!!
Beautiful 😍
Where is olosho? And Aja?
Aja means dog, not inherently an insult but of course there are other insults not included in the video, its only a short few.
What the difference between Ode and Odè ( hunter in Yoruba. The Ososi Orisa)?
They're pronounced different. Ọ̀dẹ̀: idiot. Ọdẹ: hunter

Hahah the things you see out and about aye
Any American person
mike okoko I knew I’d find this here. Sigh

The vast majority of our insults revolve around stupidity 😂😂😂😂😂 ode, oponu, arindin, akuri, munoonu, alainironu...
Haha this is very true
Anyone here what is hun! In nigeria? Thank you for your answer I am from philippines.
Hey! Hun, as in the slang shortened form of honey?
@@DiamanteBox thank you so much...I thought it was bad words 😊 ....I had a closed friend from ibadan he always saying hun with me 😅..
Ewo wa leyin, pls tell me d meaning
So I think I’m finding out that the reason my mom refused To teach me yoruba is so she could keep cussing me out in yoruba😭

Something that sounds like "Ori ay o'pay".
A friend taught it to me years ago, but I can't find it anywhere.
It means your head is not correct, you're mad etc
@@DiamanteBox Thank you. (:
Literally means "your head is incomplete." Which insinuates that it's lacking a vital part. 😉😂
It is actually " Ori e o pe"
What does “Cassava” mean??
Lool Cassava is a food similar to yam but it can often be used to denote the male genital. e.g Tecno - you say you like cassava i get big cassave
