    Thanks for this! Helped me to move Roon from using my entire NUC to just running it in a VM

    Incredibly helpful video, thank you so much. I had my Intel NUC running Roon Rock standalone and had it moved over within an hour!

    Thanks, I've been looking for a way to make ROCK aware of the UPS status, and running it in proxmox seems a whole lot simpler than putting NUT on a Pi and having it call the Web interface when the battery gets low, and I can load some other low-cost services like syncthing on the machine as well.

      nice. as for a streamer for your Pi, have you looked at Volumio?

    Roon Rock seems to run OK in Proxmox. Am still migrating to a dedicated NUC 13 Pro Core i7 box to take advantage of HQPlayer, etc.

    hello, Thanks for the information. Extremely helpful. Roon Rock now running in proxmox server with TrueNas server drives sharing music. Need to get Arc working but its a router problem that I will dig into next. How about roon wifi enpoints ? Any luck with those?

    Thanks. Just followed your guide to at a Proxmox ROON-ROCK VM exactly as you outlined. Is it better to set it up as a a CT-Container instead? Are there performance improvements?

    • @Studio3BRocks
      @Studio3BRocks  Месяц назад +1

      I haven’t tested but would be interested to know. But there is not a huge performance impact with regards to streaming as long as you are using an SSD I don’t think you would notice anything different.

    Hi Mate , Thanks for this tutorial . roon server was sucking up all the RAM before . I will try this on . How did you link the roon storage to proxmox storage . I just cant get to link the roon app to browse and find the location of the smb folder which holds all my media. How did you do it ?. Cheers . Emmany

    Thanks for creating this very helpful video. Have you tried or tested having a second physical SATA SSD in your Proxmox server and passing it through to the roon rock vm for media storage? I bought a NUC11PAHi7 to use as a dedicated roon rock appliance and kitted it with a 1TB nvme SSD and an additional 8TB SATA SSD. I use Proxmox extensively for lot's off stuff so I've reconsidered and will now look to run roon rock as a virtual appliance. I still like the idea of having my music files contained in the appliance (yes, I know you can mount smb share but I don't have a file server provisioned atm and don't look to do it anytime soon).

    • @Studio3BRocks
      @Studio3BRocks  Год назад +1

      I haven’t tried it but I bet it will work.

    • @carlnakamura4861
      @carlnakamura4861 Год назад

      @@Studio3BRocks I did try it since I asked the question and it works perfectly. I did however end up installing Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS and installing Roon Server on it along Plex Server and whole bunch of other services on it. Passing through the physical disk works for that as well allowing for media on local disk for multiple servers/use cases.

    I think if you unchecked enroll keys during the VM creation, you wouldn't need to do the secure boot stuff in BIOS.

    Great video - I am having horrible crackling issues with the sound out of my iFi DAC. I think it's due to the USB which I've tried to resolve via PCI(e) passthrough to no avail. Any ideas? My other non-usb endpoints work a treat!

    • @Studio3BRocks
      @Studio3BRocks  7 месяцев назад +1

      Nope not gunna work that way. You need to stream to other network devices instead

    This is an excellent video, but you can run ROON Server in an LXC and get much better performance. No need to run a full VM on a virtualized hardware. No need for a keyboard or anything special. I setup a privileged LXC with access to my iGPU just in case. You will need to install dependencies as per the Roon KB on installing on Linux. Ubuntu 22.04 LXC

      Did you have any problems accessing SMB/NFS shares for your media this way? That has been the bane of my existence with LXCs so far.

    • @Studio3BRocks

      Noted. However my ROCK has no performance issues to write home about

    • @allandresner
      @allandresner 5 месяцев назад

      @@dcvamps4594 zero issue. I mount the shares in the fstab file.. you can either do this from proxmox and then mount the drives or directly inside the LXC. My shares are on Truenas

    • @allandresner
      @allandresner 5 месяцев назад

      @@Studio3BRocksmy point is you can use an LXC and take up less resources but nothing wrong with running it in a VM :)

    I know it feels scary using all the ram but it should be a good thing it’s just accessed files getting cached.

      Roon server maxes out my 40 gb of ram for some reason when running on debian or rhel. Roon ROCK in proxmox is sitting comfortably at 27% memory usage out of only 8gb
