Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec system exhaust.
Thanks for the lol
damn it i was looking for this comment lmao
motec system exhaust
@@erikhorn3884 hell yeah
and just one week before the Race Wars !!!
Cars really do have a destiny of their own; it amazes me how Hector's Civic was the envy of thousands, if not millions, 20-years ago and now there's a decent chance the car is in a scrap yard in an unrecognizable state. No one that sees the car now would ever think this car was a fairly big part of the most important car movie ever made, and now it's gone forever like the past itself. It's both tragic and beautiful.
Its not that deep tho. The car was barely part of the movie so theres no need to get all emotional. I also dont think its in a scrap yard, just the paintjob and bodykit was 30k you think the guy sold it for 500$ to some scrap yard lord? Lmao
@@znshajbs I remember Craig saying in an earlier video that the car was in very rough shape. So if nobody comes along and thinks the car is worth restoring it will definitely end up in the scrapyard. Sad but true
@@znshajbs he says in this video it had been sitting outside for over a decade
@@scootbmx01 would still be easily restored haha
@@ggj1987 nawh man easy to bring one of these cars back unless it needed up in the hands of a dumbass or lazy then maybe it would be scraped but if someone that likes EGs bought it they'd bring it back to life especially if they knew it was the car from the movie! It would definitely be restored.
D16’s are only single cam, that engine is a dual cam. It’s a B series, most likely b18 stroked to 2L
It's a B16. If it is a 2.0 then it's a B20 conversion which is the bottom end from a CR-V and a VTEC head (B16 OR B18) Better than a stroker kit.
thatd be contradictory since he said the owner claimed it was an SIR which came with a B16
Don't let this distract you from the the fact that Hector is gonna be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines, and on top of that he just came into Harry's and he ordered 3 T66 Turbos with NOS and a M0TeC system exhaust.
Looks like Hector isn't gonna be running 3 Honda Civic's with spoon engines, 3 t66 turbo's with NOS's, and a Motec System Exhaust.
I wonder what he did with those parts after all.
You did the homework nice job
Hector was so slow, they trusted him to hold the $$$.
That's definitely not a d series. It's a b series valve cover so a 2 liter it totally possible.
Easily a CRV (B20) bottom with Type-R head. Even the JDM Integra Type-R motor (B18C TYPE-R PR3) could be bumped to 2.0 and mags from the era say that SEWERSIDE built the motor (not sure who that is) so it's totally possible to be a B20B with Type R top end or a built Type-R motor.
@@tar5us452 the movie released the same year as the crv and id bet filming was done before then.
@@ClumsyCars The CRV's with B20 engines were from 1997 to 2001.
Yes it could be some B20 with B18 head combo
@@tar5us452 it's a single cam valve covers guys smh
hectors eg hatch is the reason why i own and built one. i loved the car as a little kid in the movie theater and bought one when i was old enough to drive and still have it to this day
This actually felt good to read, Finally someone who took a 92-95 EG and didn't trash it. Since I sold my 99' GSR Integra I've wanted a EG but everyone acting like these cars were always going to be around as well as cheap is what ruined them. Now marketplace is all "Here is my 92 Eg that's rusted, smell like fat chicks, has cheap parts, 300K miles and a D-Series Automatic.. $7,500 Firm. Don't low ball me I know what I got.." Ya know that bull shit.. So respect for taking care of the car. You did what a lot of dumb teenagers didn't do and you should be proud of that.
"I got a last name too but I can't pronounce" from hector had me dying 🤣
I miss the lines from that movie lol
D16 engines are sohc (single over head cam) ..that is clearly a dual over head cam b series engine.
B series engines include B16, b17, b18 & b20 are dohc engines . So the possibility of it being a stroker 2.0 isn’t far fetched.
Although the car is not a Si-R that model is right hand drive.
It is however an Si usdm spec the sunroof is what gives that away
I was shocked he called it a D16 as well, I've seen plenty of 2.0L B series stroked in my years.
You’re correct. We missed that as we working off the specs are reprinted in a major magazine.
It's definitely a B16A, B16C, or B18C head because that's a VTEC solenoid hanging off the back of the cam.
I don't think the B16A can be stroked to 2.0 because the block isn't tall enough. The B16C is essentially a de-stroked B18 engine and I'm pretty sure those can be bored / stroked to 2.0. Could also be a B20 with B16/18 head. That was popular for a while.
My buddy had an EG hatch that had a stroker B18b1. Was stroked to a 2.1L
Pretty sure it had a d series in the movie. Then b series for magazine shoot.
Never forger that Hector is going to be running 3 Honda Civics with SPOON engines. And on top of that, he just went into Harry's, and he ordered 3 T66 TURBOS, with NOS. And a MOTEC exhaust
I am an old guy. I grew up street racing in a small town in the Mid South and for us back then, it was all about American Iron. Japanese cars were 'sewing machines' that no one would have bought as a racer. When F&F came out I suddenly gained an appreciation for the cars, not from a pure muscle car standpoint but I really liked the tech. Tuning was a new idea to me. I could (and still can) do anything to a carburetor and we used to tune a car engine with wrenches, by ear and the good ones among us did really well that way. But now they had ECMs and that took tuning with software. Neat, more toys! I am still learning about tuning but I have a greater appreciation for the little 'sewing machines' today thanks to that movie (actually only the first three count). I actually own an American V-8 performance car and a Japanese tuning toy today.
Japanese cars were more of a West Coast thing.
Imports were already popular over there before the movie. 🙂
If that civic is missing then so is a t66 turbo, Nos and a motec system exhaust.
Rumor has it they left town in a semi trailer with 3 Spoon engines.
What always bothered me was, when Hector presented his car to Brian (Paul) they showed the engine bay of a Honda Accord.
I was always confused about that too. I had to rewatch those shots several times to check if the car they showed was the same car as the Civic later at Racer’s Edge
@craig you missed like the most important fact about this car role in the movie
Facts, he actually stood next to an accord and closed the door of it
That Accord shows up again at the Race Wars scene, or possibly the end credits or both. I'm guessing they couldn't get the Civic on the set for the car meet scene or maybe he's supposed to own both.
It is probably a b20 from a CRV, with a B16/B18 VTEC head.
or a B18 stoker
+
Loved that civic. Probably the only one I ever liked. I'd hate to fix that paint job. I guess it would of been a whole respray if a panel got damaged.
I’m utterly stunned that no import or Honda enthusiast with some money ever tried to acquire it
I love every civic
Hector's gonna be running TWO Honda Civics with Spoon engines!
Three
One is missing
Motec. System. Exhaust
Lol
“Let’s go for a little ride…”
The design is such a classic, the Hector actor should have bought the civic. If he had it restored it, it would be worth 100,000$ just for the history alone. Civic fans would have put it in a car museum.
Its cuz he's going legit homie, getting on the NIRA circuit
The culture NEEDS another classic “Jdm” fast n furious nowadays…just like these…honestly the reason why I fell in love with civics and Hondas in general. Please give us a old classic Jdm fast!!!
I remembered seeing this at hot import nights; paint was amazing. @0:26 Also that Del Sol with a Ek9 front end conversion was pretty slick for its time.

It was a B series engine. His was a B18C5 Type R motor with a HKS stage 2 2ltr stroker kit. In my old da9 integra i had the stock b18a1 built up to a 2.1ltr. It was a all motor non vtec beast
I miss the car scene so much.. Fuck me those days were awesome ❤️
This was always one my favorite cars from the movie when his crew pulled up at Harry's. That was a top notch build back in the day. Glad its getting some recognition.
Still holds up to today's standards tbf, other than the front bumper imo
Sounds like a B20B block and a B16A2 or B18C1 head
Look for Hectors car at the NIRA circuit - he went legit
Did you call it a D series motor?
He did.
You can see that the engine is no longer the original d16.
It could have been a b18 stroked to 2l
ZC engines were popular back then,
I used to be a Honda fanboy mainly of the 88-90 CRX, I knew all the Honda specs and mod info.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve moved onto Chevy V8 stuff and have forgotten some of the old Honda info I used to retain haha. I’ve learned a lot of other stuff that’s probably overwritten some of that old info.
It's not a ZC it's got a B series Vtec valve cover meaning it's at least a b16, could be a b18C1 or B18C5 judging by the age of the movie and the H on the valve cover imma say chances are it's a JDM B16 or could be a JDM B17. The ZC was basically an Experimental DOHC D series we got the brown top here in the stats in some DA integras but the JDM ZC was a black top. I know all this BC I am also a crx fan boy. Was building Hondas before F&F was even a thing. I love the first 3 movies as they are nostalgic to a time long gone but I still love my CRXs I currently own my Dream car from those days CR-X SiR with the Glass roof imported from JAPAN. and the B16A I upgraded with Type R Cams very mild build but I love it so much. I'd say if heters car was a stroked 2.0 it could have been an early GSR with the JDM valve cover who knows back then you could get a GSR for $1700 imported by a company like tiger Japanese. Password wasn't even a thing yet. Nopi was I. It's hey day and ppl in my area didn't know why my B16 and B18 crxs could out run there bone stock IROC-z or 5.0 GT lol I miss those days
Y’all I have a ZC in my 91 Si hatch. What can I do with it? Is it true a Dohc bolts up?
It’s a B20 vtec, It has a B16 head with a Honda Crv b20 2 liter block. These conversions became really popular in like 97 or 98. They also had LsVtec conversions. Using an LS bottom end with a vtec head.
I guess he is fast enough to get away with the money 😂😊
Thats a b series Craig 2.0 liter stroker is possible
My bad. I was reading the specs given to a magazine.
It's called frankenstein. Combining B16a head and B20 block making it 2.0.
Thanks for bringing up Hector's ride. I always found it one of the coolest cars in F&F.
I still want to know about the del sol with hydraulic suspension.
"The D16 can only be bored and stroked to 1.7 liters".. well that would be true, if it was a D16 engine.. I see a DOHC engine so it's a b16 or b18c.. or could be a b20 bottom end with a vtec head.. or it could have a b20 crank in the b18 block. Or it was sleeved and stroked. Not much stroke needed because boring a b18 to 84mm yields you about a 2 liter.
What difference would a b20 crank make in a b18 block unless it was an 18c. LS crv are the same. And to put a 20 ls style crank in a 18c you are just a dildo. And d16’s have been bored out to take over sized ctr pistons with sleeves in the past and stock b16 pistons stock bore sleeves paper thin. Look it up.
I miss these days. When a customised car was truly exciting to look at just sitting there. Sometimes I wish I was born a few years earlier. My first experience with JDM car customisation was in Need For Speed Underground 1 & 2. I just caught the end of the glory days. Now every car meet I go to, everyone is bragging about how stock their car looks. Which is fine if they like that, but people always feel the need to talk shit about people who want to customise their cars visually. Now it's just: lower, rims, stretch tyres, roll guards, instagram photos done. I wanna go back in time basically.
hi 2 year comment, i mean literrally they add aero to cars in japan, the new prius as soon as it went out they add a full aero everyone loved, the prius a30 was the same, old silvias, lancers all have aeros or they look completely stock, american style and japanese style both are popular and people tend to fight about the other opinion, back in the 90s was the same tbh
Has anyone checked the NIRA Circuit? Heard that's what he was trying to join
Yea, they wouldn't allow him to participate due to his knee high socks. Or so I've heard.
Was never a big fan of these movies too over the top but that's Hollywood been nice if they kind of made it more realistic about what these cars can and can't do. Turn cars weren't my thing I do appreciate what people did to make them involved into what they are being I used to build drag car motors I do understand what it's like to squeeze every bit of performance you can out of an engine lot of ingenuity went and to this stuff. Listening to Graig talk about these movies his experience in the car tuning world has given me a much greater appreciation for what they've done for the tuner market world.
I had a stroke trying to read this and figure out where sentences ended. Anyway, realism doesn't appeal to the masses
@@scootbmx01 do you mean appeal?? sorry to ask
@@earthbound8809 yeah
As a couple other people have mentioned, this car appears to have a B16, not a D16. It’s fairly common for people to put B16 heads on a B18 or B20 block, which could give you the 2.0 stroker motor you were referring to.
Changing heads does not change displacement or stroke, only cylinders, pistons, rods, and crank will.
@@bcamcam2 B16 head on a B20 block is a 2.0L motor…
@@PathwayPrivate yes, but it would not be increasing the stroke or displacement of the B20, it would still be the standard 2L, therefore it would not be a stroker motor..
@@bcamcam2 then it’s a B16 head on a stroked B18 block.
@@bcamcam2 reminder that Craig said he BELIEVED it was a 2.0 stroker motor. Could’ve easily just been a regular B20 block with a B16 head.
It has a B series engine, you can swap pretty much any B series block/head, so it could either be a B16 or B18 bored out to 2.0 , or its an original B20 block with a 1.8 or (most likely) 1.6 head. Note: B20 is a CRV engine.
Can the B16A be bored to 2.0? I'm pretty sure you can't stroke it to 2.0 - the B18 block is taller to accommodate the extra stroke.
B20 block also requires 5k in machine work to accommodate the oil passages for the Vtec head. That’s about 5k on top of everything else. Same with the B18B (non Vtec)

To go 2.0cc or above it needs a b18 block or a b20 from the honda crv
Lol no it doesn't need it I've seen h22 hat he's and k20 and and k24 hatches. But I'd put a b series in out of preference. You can get a b20 from Integra too. Best b20 to use would be the improved versions that Integras and Crv got a little while after which is the b20z4

Hey, Honda guy here. I don't know if anybody else has pointed it out yet in the comments, but by "bored and stroked" he probably meant just "bored". I'd assume he was running a B20B (if I remember correctly, it's a CR-V block with a B18C head, though I might be mistaken).

20 years later, I cant believe the first movie was out in 2001. The car is probably sitting in someone's garage as a show piece like most movie cars do.
It's a B series Craig. Came out in 2.0 even. In the crv and prelude. 2.0 hybrid motors are even achievable with vtec heads and b20 blocks. If it was a b18 from factory then 2.0 stroker isn't unimaginable
That car didn't have a d series. Its obviously a B series or maybe H series it's clear that it has a twin cam head
Craig, if not for your Supra & R34, I would not be where I am today. So I thank you and Paul for getting me deep into cars.
two cams.....that's a B series. common modification back then with honda owners was to take a CR-V b20 block and toss the b16 vtec head on it. you know those old ls-vtec hybrid motors? acura intera LS b18b block with the b16 vtec head by plugging an oil port with a set screw, same thing but you use the b20 cr-v block
“I’m no Honda expert”well we can tell lol that was a b series not a d
Big difference🦾
It was a B18C or A , and you can borr and stroke them out with new sleeves and all and get to like 1995cc so basically a 2.0L.
With a name like that, I'm gonna take you at your word.
It was a bored up B18C, LSVTEC, or a B20VTEC
It's got a VTEC solenoid so I don't think it's a B18A.
B series dual cam... easily 2 liters...
It could just be a b20 with a vtec head or a b18b that's been bored to a 84mm or 85mm. Both these setups have a 89mm stroke over the 87mm stroke the b18c had. I don't know much about the b16 as it's not worth people time nowadays to fuck with it when a b18b is dirt cheap and can offer more for less basically.
Fax
Slight correction: both the B18B and B20 blocks required about 5k in machine work to drill the oil passages out for the VTEC to work right. The cheapest route would’ve been a B16A1 (99-2000 Si) or B18C1 (integra GSR) swap back then. Now? Non Vtec blocks would surely be cheaper as the cost of decent condition Vtec engines from that era is thru the roof.
No way this car is junked. Someone has it stored away. I have the Super Street magazine with it and the work done to the car is outstanding and can stand the test of time.

I’m a big fan of the movie but in fact, that’s not hectors car… in the “snowman” scene when Brian intro to hector, hector shows his car, a juiced up, station wagon accord with no hood with a turbo. Hector drove during the dinero scene shopping at the mod shop
It would appear Hector is no longer running 3 Civics with Spoon engines, and on top of that, he just came out of Harry's without 3 T66 turbos, NOS, or a MoTec exhaust system.
Shame it's gone!
On a side note.. When is Hot Wheels going to release Hector's Civic? About time they did instead of random cars no one asked for!
Yeah dude we need that like ASAP, only EG civics we got so far are that dumb hello kitty one and the spoon style
B18 stroker was available and a bore could get you close to 2.0. More like a 1.9 though. But it would be so expensive vs throwing a b20 block in it and putting a b16 head on the thing. (B20 vtec frank)
HONDA CRV B20 shortblock and B16 Cylinder head will give you that "stroker motor".
I wonder if it still has the motec system exhaust on it
Tanabe. If it still has one....
Just wanted to mention, that is a B series motor in the car and to make a stroker was/is very easy. You get a B20 bottom end off a CR-V and put the VTEC head on, this is what commonly is called a B20VTEC.
The D Series you mentioned is single cam.
9 speeding ticket, my is more like 29 and counting , in the first f,f movie hector is talking to braine at the race night and standing next to a dark red honda accord and hector said he want be running her in race
Thats not a D series, thats a B series head right there. Stroked B18 most likely.
Craig thats is a B series engine, you should have your scriptwriter do better research. It was not uncommon to have 1.8L motors stroked to 1.9L-2.1L. /ooof
