Hey Devin, thank you for teaching us what kind of drill bits to use. My only concern is that you need to wear a pair of safety glasses when you use a drill.
This was very informative. However I have drilled probably 50 or more terracotta and ceramic pots but I used the diamond tip circle bits, two different sizes. I never had any break but it can be challenging as you need to start at a 45 degree angle and then slowly at a 90 degree angle. The ceramic ones are tough as they are slippery but I don't let that stop me. I found it on another RUclips video, but I think yours would have been easier. Thank you so much for sharing.
I’ve drilled holes in all of my terracotta /ceramic/glass planters too but I use the circle diamond drill bits and I also run the water hose slowly while I’m doing it to avoid breakage from the heat while drilling. Works 100%. Never have had a crack or breakage. ALWAYS wear safety glasses.
Hi Devin, I had a few pot that needed drain hole. Some were glaze and some unglazed . I bought a 5 piece diamond hole saw drill bit set off from Amazon . Needed to add a little water where my husband was drilling the hole because it was getting a little warm . Worked great! I have passed up so many pretty pots because they didn't have any drain hole. Not any more 😊.
All types of pots you can use a ceramic/glass bit. Don't press too hard but be firm. Best if you can drill a little from both sides, (sometimes you can't), and switch sides as soon as you have a hole showing. You can get perfect circular holes in any pot. I do it all the time, even done multiple holes in larger pots.

Can you make a video about Norfolk Pines? I need help. Mine is slowly dying. The fronds are drying up from the trunk to the ends and falling off. I've seen some videos on how to start them from cuttings but it would take forever to get it to the 5 foot size I have now and I haven't had much luck.Thanks
I lost my dear orange Maine Coon cat of eight years. She had a glazed ceramic white water bowl with raised letters that spell”water.” I bought a Golden Barrel cactus and forgot about drainage. Do you think I could drill one or more holes? The diameter is 4”. The bottom is the opposite of concave, however, and it’s not as thick as a flower pot, I don’t imagine. Thanks.

Yes, it always seems the one pot you find that is perfect has no drainage. Of course, my biggest peeve is when you find that perfect expensive glazed pot with drainage there is never a matching saucer to be found.

Yes starting a new one from cuttings wouldn’t be worth it!

You definitely could, but you’ll want to be very careful not to damage the cactus if you do so
