Had never heard him before and I came across him on youtube... WOW it was this song I first heard and the lyrics resonated with me. Perfectly describes my relaationship with my abusive manipulative now ex wife and my use of pethadine/Vicadin although never IV but still an addiction both of them and after 5 years of seperation my ex wife still haunts me just as I think my life is starting to move foward I am physically haunted by her droping random belongings of mine at my home when Im not there and 5 yrs ago she said she had nothing more of mine although I knew this wasnt true and still emotionally haunted. Aborted children and hit me with cast iron frypans. I have not been able to have a relationship since we split ans scars are still way to deep and I wonder if they will ever heel.

This song feels like how it feels to try and stop yourself from falling for someone. You can feel thier power over you grow and even though you try and run, you run to them instead. You know it will never work out, but they have a hold on your heartstrings and are pulling you in.

I came out a winner becouse I managed to get out of the marriage, 2 abortions out of spite and plenty of pysical abuse later. But I have not been able to go near a relationship since and I wonder if I will ever be able to. I'm glad you're in a better place❤ I was in a similar situation, well probably not the "same" but I lived a "certain" lifestyle and who I was with, my ex fiance that had another "name" broke me down to nothing. A narcissist, controlling I felt I was nothing, and also nothing without him. I have PTSD after that relationship that's how toxic it was. This song helped me get through it. And even though it hurts still, I listen to this song to remember I'm worth something, I am somebody. Thank you Isak. Besides this song all your work is powerful and beautiful. I think most people this song is a representation of a toxic intimate relationship and I'm sure that it is but for me this represents my addiction! They give beautiful performances and play the part in a role for a person we wish we had instead of what we did have, they make it feel like they are the only ones that get us we thrive off of being understood by them to the point the rest of the world feels foreign and unrealistic sometimes, when we have a lucid moment we begin to become disillusioned and then they go stage two the attack our beliefs our worth.
They tear us down as drastically and violent as they can to ruin our self image they scar us and scare us into believing that we are too far gone for anyone to love us and maybe even they shouldn't be with us, they impose upon us the notion that their outbursts and spouts of unnecessary anger rage or discontent is our fault. Don't get me wrong we're not stupid so we began to wake from the stupor and shrug off the blows taken we breathe and try to clear our heads, but that can't be allowed if we do we could get away so they go too far and make it all personal make us doubt our very memories or recollection of events, like a web spinner they twist the fabric of our realities until it looks and feels like they are the only ones we become whole dependent on their view of us the way they feel about us.
stage 3 starts in heavy they give us a euphoric release an ecstasy either sexually mentally or emotionally they bring us into bliss dragging us into those deep warm waters by our ankles, while what little resistance and sane thought escapes our brains as we plunge effectually robbing us blind beyond measure taking as many years hours or days of our lives as they wish. With bell in hand ringing it for their pleasure and amusement and slowly we're stockholm'd completely and utterly at their mercy, as our desperate last attempt for freedom is met with sever punishments and silence bringing out a level of anxiety that strips us of self assurance and alienates us from peace.
Stage 4 cruelest of them all, they finally grow bored they toy with us and give us enough attention to keep our fires burning for them our passion stoked while our hearts bleed they distance gradually they withdraw more and more they act different around us and to what say, what once brought laughter or desire from them now brings scorn mockery and denial as this continues our trust now becomes the sword that stabs us through the chest. Then as yet not enough they take to action and stab us in the back with all our secrets and vulnerabilities and things we never told anyone else as the knife is twisting they tighten the rope around our necks known as hope as they allow us to believe there is a chance to salvage the whole thing.
Stage 5 the life's drained out of our faces as we realize we're ruined our hearts turn cold our trust no where to be found our passion gone no longer feel comfortable around people, no longer open nor whole broken and beaten to the point the pain turns cold then numb and then nothing as this endless abyss swallows us from the inside our crippling us in everyday life, because dealing with anything or anyone becomes such a tiring thing that we spend most of our days drained and we can't say nothing we can't utter any words because even though we're desperate for release the words won't come out. Finally we're trapped inside our on minds with our own thoughts swimming around in a sea of abandonment.
This song perfectly captures what it's like to be in an emotionally and/or sexually abusive relationship and knowing you need out but feeling enslaved to the abuser.
