I bought one of those rafts last year and did a scouting trip down a little side river I didn't see any moose which were my target, but I did close to just about point blank range with a whitetail doe who had no idea what I was, if I had a crossbow and the season was open I could have nailed her, still it was a ton of fun but a warning bring some kind of a cushion to sit on my ass was sore afterward.
How’d the raft do in the cold water as far as keeping the air pressure up? Maneuverability good? Suggest waders? Rain pants good enough? Cool video too… Ata boyee!
Jonathan! They do really well. We inflated them at the truck, then you put them in the water, throw some water all over it to get adjusted for the water temp. Then blow a little more air in and they are good to go! I think that the maneuverability is good. I was able to be were I wanted to be in the river no problem. Also I think that a really big advantage to these rafts is that if something gets too hairy it's no big deal to pull the raft out and walk around the obstacle. When it's cold and and you don't want to get wet I'd suggest wearing waders. If you wore rain pants (Jace wore wader pants) you run the risk water going down the back of your pants. Some of the models are self bailing so that would help, the ones we were using in this video were not self bailing, so you do deal with a little water splashing over the sides and sitting in the raft if you don't have the self bailing versions. Thanks for watching and the comment! Best - Michael
Thanks! Yeah it would not be ideal to go into that water. In this case we were close to a population center, and we had service. Also we were close to a major road, so depending on where we were at in the float we would have probably called someone to come get us. Or stated a fire on the bank, etc. Also the air temp wasn't terrible that day. That was on my mind the whole float though and we planned to avoid sketchy sections of the river. That's one of the advantages of pack rafts, it's no big deal to get out and cary the raft around areas you don't feel comfortable floating though! Thanks for watching and the comment! -Michael
Thank you Michael very good information and video always like your adventures. I would like it if you could do a Michael and Marcus camera Conor to help beginners Luke the kids in youth group at church God's Blessings
Glad you enjoyed it! I'll talk with Marcus and see if we can sneak a little camera segment into a Fresh Tracks Weekly. Or if there's more interest from a other people we can just do a full on video on the cameras and gear we use! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the lookout Jim! We played our cards safe on this trip. Always wore life jackets, avoided sketchy areas etc. Sometimes you have to risk it for the biscuit. We appreciate your viewership over the years! Have a good one! -Michael
Love it! Nice work team.

Nice job, you’re getting better on video. You didn’t even cuss for no reason. Congratulations.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful. Great cinematography. Instant hypothermia if you dump into that freezing water? What’s the plan then?

Be very careful that time year; would also go with another person...one mistake/accident could cost you your life to hypothermia.
