Golden | Dorado: Treasure of the Paraná - Fly Fishing in South America

- We had the opportunity to go fly fish for one of the most incredible species of fish on the planet. The vibrance of the Dorado is the reason we ventured to the Paraná River in Argentina to experience the golden treasure for ourselves. The Paraná River’s average discharge is roughly 700,000 cfs. A River this big is bound to be the home of monster Golden Dorado. Having heard about these fish 25 years ago, we did not hold back when casting large streamers day in and day out. And in the end it did not disappoint.

Fly Fish Food
That was simply a glorious video - and it expressed all of the best of what fishing should be - including the frustration, the comradery, and not least the benevolence that should exist between fishermen worldwide. This reminds me of the work of Leigh Perkins as he was building up Orvis, and the video of Yvon Chouinard in Valsesiana. What makes a good narrative isn't just the images or the instruction, but the emotional response from the creator - that came through strong, and it was a privilege to watch. Well done all.
Very well put. Thank you! Huge props to Brigham who was tasked to bring the story to life.
I have nothing I can add to such a well worded description of your Video and Story. 👍
I could watch an episode of this kind of thing every week.
This is like the coolest fly fish food video I’ve watched to date , so awesome.
Some days I could really go for some coca leaves. National Geographic did a good special on How Coca Leaves Become Cocaine, tis a good watch! Every culture has a leaf, or berry, or bean...some stimulant of some kind. Every single one.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Alto Parana It´s the place where the dreams come true!!!!
Well done fulfilling your dream in style. Great filming and narrative made it for me.
The editing job on this was fantastic guys - Awesome, awesome, awesome job!!! Congratulations on the dream dorado!
Crazy fish and a great story...
Excellent footage. What a feeling that must had been. Congratulations!!! Great job done by all.
Epic. Congratulations Cheech on a dream come true. Couldn’t be happier for you guys. Thanks for sharing!
What a fish and classic some random unique fly sealed the deal.
Love that vid brother. Glad y’all made that happen. Shout to Luka, the leaf flows over haha
Incredible video. Well done guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
WOW! WOW! How cool is that! Congrats, Cheech.
Awsome cut, real adventure. thank you, guys!
Phenomenal video, guys.
Great fish Señor Cheech, felicitaciones, you fish with a great guide, Lucas Mora, met him a few years ago down in Bolivia.
Cool video! I'm going with Set Fly Fishing in early March ( 2023 ) with a friend. We'll start at La Alondra Lodge and fish Ibera Marsh for four days and then head over to Itati Lodge to fish the Upper Parana for another 4 days. My friend has done this before and fished with the guide in your video. Should be fun...
You are in for the time of your life!!!
Dorado are on my bucket list. They look like a salmonid but I am guessing they are more like a tetra on steroids. Beautiful fish, thank you for the video!
yes guys, amazing. I''m from brazil and can say that this region has a lot to be explored. Your edition is incredible, the place, the sound. I can predict a lot of sucess for more videos like this in wild countries.
May I sugest a trip to Brazilian Pantanal and Amazonia, I bet it will a tought challenge and an amazing experience. Cheers.
So cool! Congrats Cheech! Lots of hard work paid off.
Great video, great story!
Way To Go Cheech!!! Great Fish!!! Great Fight!!! Great Memories!!! 😎👍🏻🎣🐡
Probably my favorite video of yours--- I loved it! I never got to fish it, but I saw the Rio Parana every day for about three months when I was serving in Granadero Baigorria. Good things in Argentina this year. Big Dorado and a world cup victory 🤜🤛👍
YES SIRRRRRR!!! Thanks for the props hermano
What year were you in Baigorria? I was there in ‘93 and looked at that river every day as well wishing I could throw a fly at the surubi or dorados. Loved that place and Reconquista as well
@@JustinWatterson-mb1rf Yeah, I actually heard quite a bit about you from the mission back in the day. I can't remember which companion or mission friend knew you but I was told more than once that I would love Elder Watterson cause he loved to fish too. You and your brother owned one of the local guide services or so I was told. I also served in Reconquista---that was my second area. Baigorria was my third.
@@JustinWatterson-mb1rf I forgot to mention, I started in February of 94. I was in Baigorria in late 94 I think
@@TroutHowler that’s hilarious!! Loved those times. We’ll have to get out and catch some giants. I’d love to fish with you
Congratulations! Dourado é the King, the Pelé of the rivers.
Epic adventure! Congratulations on your first Dorado.
Im from Brazil and we fish dourado here as well, they are very strong and explosive fish, so awesome, great video.
What a beauty ......well done !
13:50 and youtube strikes again! (Video muted...) Also 700,000 CFS is unimaginable. Standing on the banks of the provo at its tiny creek sized 380cfs and we think thats full...or even "The Mighty Colorado" and its 9260 max. So cool.
Really, really cool! Great video and I'm super stoked for you to land a bucket list fish!
Wow. Great episode!
Great Work!!
Congratulations. The video was good, too. I like how you dealt with the HUNT, warts and all. Very real.
Nice job Cheech. Kick ass 🐟💯
So sweet! congrats!
Excellent! 👍🏻
Good karma, bringing dude back to his boat
.....and I get frustraded with 2000 cfs...how about 700,000...gonna need a bigger perdigon!
SICK!
Que lindo pescado, che!!! Que ganas de ir por Itati que me dieron
Well done!
What is the name of this lodge? I will be back in Argentina next late April to hunt Red Stag in Patagonia. I want to set up a hunt for Golden Dorado either before or right after my stag hunt.
Can you provide a link to their website?
Brilliant
I think a tying video for that dorado fly is in order...... Please and thank you.
are u guys still in argentina?
why are the Dorado dangerous to hold?
They have teeth just like a piranha and could bite your finger clean off
Dorado is the Paraná's tiger.
Класная душевнвя рыбалка
Very cool
Brazil?
Tie some Muskie flies. I have had right shoulder surgery and water loading on your back cast helps to get some distance and saves the shoulder. Bigger flies you would need to beef up the rod weight..
I just designed lighter flies so they can be thrown with an 8
👍👏👏👏
Why flies?
Johnny hoffman o melhor pescador
Congratulations...Woo! Hoo! For you. Dorado are the meanest MOFu's in the adipose tribe. Shall there be a part 2?!?🙏
Part 2 coming soon
@@FlyFishFood 👀 I see scammers are afflicting the comment section here too...🙄
awesome only for the rich man

Don’t trout set. Don’t trout set. Don’t trout set. Don’t trout set…..

Чертовы браконьеры как можно ловить на сети
that was not very good fishing for that place. Usually you can catch dozens of them (the small ones), with a shot at a big one like that. The river looked too high, i dont know what month they went there, but you can get better fishing out of that river at that place. I know they were trophy hunting with the big flys, and is part of why they didnt catch as many fish, but that river can fish much better.
Try float fishing these suckers
mantap abang super suskses selalu abang jagan kasi kendor gassss..salam dari saya fishing arafura .indonesia.salam satu joran abangku🙏🇮🇩
Epic is a word that gets tossed around far too casually today but that was truly epic. Congrats. I have long wanted to try my hand at them after seeing Larry Dahlberg’s TV show decades ago. I remember he was tossing a giant lure that was basically a string of wooden beads, each one about the size of a small walnut. I think the show was “The Hunt for Big Fish”. Sadly, that trip just wasn’t meant to be for me. Again, congrats on realizing the dream.
Congratulations! Beautiful story, excellent edit. Would love to watch you tie that fly. Thank you again for sharing your adventure.
LA ESPECIE DEL MINUTO 16:12 NO ES FALSO DORADO, ES UN SALMÓN DE RÍO O "PIRAPITÁ", MUY LINDO VIDEO! FELICITACIONES! SALUDOS DESDE ARGENTINA!!👍😎💥🎯💣💖👈
Excellent video, first time seeing you channel!!!! I am from Argentina, on trolling gear you can get 18kg Dorados o 50kg Surubim. Clearly you were the in winter or autum, because in Summer impossible to be with so much clothes!!!
That was a damn fine Vidya boys. Amazing fish and so cool to see it eat the big fly too
Awesome video
Amazing Video!!! I think I fished with Lucas in Bolivia. He has some really cool tattoos, one of a Dorado. He is one of the fishiest guides in the world and is fanatical about dorado fishing.
Nice trip my brother . Congra
I’m sensing a tying tutorial coming on that fly soon….
Congrats!! What a fish!!
Goosebumps.......amazing!!! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, that gave me goosebumps dude. I am just starting my fly fishing journey but I hope to one day have a story like that. Congratulations!
WOW, WOZER!! Congrats Cheech. That was amazing. Thanks for letting us have a front row seat.
Super happy for you Cheech! I loved this style of video. Saludos!
gorgeous fish!
They are!
Anyone shoot any articulated streamers for Dorado?
awesome video! I'm from corrientes and I'm really happy you enjoyed your time here and were able to catch that glorious dorado!!
Very cool!
Dude!👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
One day 💭
Congratulations,
Strippers are headhunters as well . Unlike bluefish who love biting the tail off their prey.
jesus christ bro imagine if they had the hummingbird 360 in those lil boats, those dorado would not stand a chance
Can confirm
@@FlyFishFood if i donate these humming birds, u guys gotta come w me to catch one of these golden boys
We used to fish dorado and surubí with live mojarrita ( a little local fish)

Awesome congratulations fellow Fly Fisher 👍👍🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸
The Vermonter BS
Hey guys!
I listened to the podcast before watching the video, and I had some images in my mind of the mighty Dorado. Wow.
Thanks for posting, the images were amazing, (full on props to Brig) and I plan for the future!
Thanks, Utah.
Maybe I'll save up for 'that durned TFO AX2-X 10weight after all!' Lol.
