- Words fail to fully capture the Bolivian Amazon jungle; a rugged, untamed setting whose sights and sounds must be seen firsthand to fully conceptualize. The journey demands an adventurous spirit, accessed only via grass runways carved out of an otherwise impenetrable jungle. From there, head deep into the river systems via dugout canoes cut, shaped, and guided by the hands of the local indigenous people.
At the end of that journey awaits a species as challenging as it is tenacious, whose shimmering golden scales seem almost intentional given their status as one of the world’s most prized game fish. Jack Porter and cinemaphotographer Chris Patterson traveled to Tsimane’s Pluma Lodge to grant us an inside look at the day-to-day operations, the lodge, and the magnitude of the fishery.

It's like a jacked up largemouth bass mixed with a jacked up trout. What a beast.
Excellent work Chris and Jack! Y'all killed it. Stoked to see more content like this!
Thank you Phelps!!
Sooo awsome to see my city country and waters represented!!!!! Viva Santa Cruz!
Great report as always love these videos top class
Thank you!
Great video! I'm super hooked on fly fishing and this is like a dream adventure to set as a goal one day. I love the passion for what you do and how it easily comes through the video in your interview. Subbed and looking forward to the next one!
Great to hear, Nicholas! We appreciate it and stay tuned for more.
I just got back from this trip and have to say this video is 100% spot on. Be in shape, be prepared to suffer a little and have the time of your life. You get a few shots a day if you are lucky but if you work hard and stay ready it will all pay off. I highly recommend this trip!!
Nailed it!
9wt rod good to go?
will dorado hit dry flies?
They occasionally will take large mice/rat patterns and poppers, but not your typical dry fly pattern.
Very exciting. What is the species of fish that are being caught?
Hey Mark -- The primary species is the golden dorado, though there are opportunities for a few other species in the region such as pacu and yatorana.
Thanks. I apologize for not knowing more about this species.
@@markjohnston1621 No apologies necessary -- happy to help any time!
this is one of the best flyfishing videos I've seen
We love to hear it!!
Are dorado very finicky and picky fish or just low in number and difficult to find?
They are very adept predators who are quite aware of their surroundings so your approach and cast need to be spot on. Their numbers are strong for an apex predator, but with that said, you might only have around 10 shots in a day of fishing.
Nice work jack !
