Great stuff... Now retired, this takes me to my days as a plant fitter working on Blaw Knox and Barber Greene pavers. Snapped flight chains with a hopper of hot tarmac, auger bearings and drive chains snapping. All mechanical drive machines with multiplate clutches. Getting the machine up on 12"x12" 8' long baulks of timber to allow access under the machines. Usually red hot from the tarmac too. Then there were the floor plate changes, screed off the back, flight chains split and off, floor plate bolts burnt off, new floor plates in, all bolted by hand no battery tools back then.. If it's not laying, it's not earning..

This is heavy work, I hope the governor of this organisation appreciates the engineering team. When the machine was fired up to align the ram pin, it was good to see the level of trust in each other on the job. It would be very easy for someone to get injured working on on this large plant. Big responsibility to ensure the engineering guys know their stuff. Hope the boss is a subscriber and is learning what great employees he has. Thanks Baz.

Hi whilst i agree the job does need doing, the lack of masks being used does concern me, You already know silica dust is very harsh on your lungs. As you say this job is done on a regular basis so I'm thinking the accumulation on workers lungs could over time have an adverse impact. Have enjoyed all the videos of late ,just feel the impact on the workers health could be better ,and know working in them is not easy when hot and bothered, having recently retired I have visions of old guys sitting at home on oxygen because of work related injury. I support you business and enjoy the videos, keep them coming.Carl.

I was Gobsmacked! I'm going into a swoon! A day in the life of enjoyment. Hours spent in the belly of the beast Just like working on asphalt plants- big, grey and dirty! If it is noisy ,tighten the spring a little, maybe help. Or weak spring. Cheers, TA!
This takes me back to my days of megabites and c12 crushers I’ve never seen a worn one ours always got bent with metal going through it

we had the c12 toggle plates down to 15 mins I got sent to Manchester to do one fitted it and it was bent before I reached the gate gotta love Demi sites @@welderfabber
Hi Baz Another great blog as I have said in the past we all do the job differently,personally I would have put lifting bolts in the two holes in the toggle plate ,I have to change them on my own so always use lifting bolts.A lot of these toggle plates are designed to bend they act like a fuse ,so they bend so as not to damage the workings of the crusher.Normally when the crusher bangs like that it could be lack of tension on the spring or loose wedges on the jaws
I know all that mate, I’ve changed them many times on my own. The problem with the 330 was the spring tension losing pressure on the draw back. Youll see on the next chronicle this Saturday. The toggle plate still needed to be changed tho. Cheers for watching tho lad
Yes it had seen better days and saved the seats from damage
Ram seals have look to have failed. Machine is cycling ,trying to maintain ram pressure. I’m surprised it’s not throwing up a pressure fault. . Keep up posting the great vids. Thanks for sharing.
That was my thoughts but the ram was all good and not passing. Ended up being the check valve. I turned the pressure up to 44bar and it stopped surging. The draw bk stayed tight snd she was all good. It was losing pressure whilst crushing

Amazing insight of your work , can you not flip the plates to get even ware and more use between consumables. But I also see that if you have to stop the machine it's not making money.can the wear faces on plates be greased
No mate once worn it needs to be replaced
I like the repair videos ,takes a lot of time too make and edit the videos . I MIGHT BE WRONG but it looked like the ram might be leaking inside of its self blow by .. also could you have cut a new plate for the machine ??

We do whatever needs to be done to keep them machines running mate
@welderfabber for sure, but its hard to get decent guys to do funky hours tho,
Its good to see companies still doing maintenance on thier equipemnt. So many companies now forgo the maintenance and push the machines to critical failure. Then spend all that money to have them repaired when they could have done proper proper equipment maintenance either before shift or after shifts.
What kind of pants are those? They seem durable. Cant find pants that last more than a few months now.

In my self employed status l have been involved in toggle plate lower seat removal.
Someone had tried previously and got a piece of wood jammed in, welded a bar to the seat and then abandoned the job.
I was roped in to gas axe it out with gouging nozzles. It was a nasty job. I got quite a lot of it out but the job was finished by another (Very experienced and knowledgeable chap in plant work) unlike myself) lad because l had other work to do for a different customer.
Not exactly got the T shirt but l have been there.

Could the old toggle plate be built up with weld given there is only 20mm at either end to restore it, so to speak?

Does the the ram have an accumulator connected to it in the hydraulic circuit if so that could could have lost pressure. Had a similar problem on a agricultural machine.
It was a check valve problem in the end mate

The toggle plate is a fail safe so is designed to bend if a big lump of steel or iron ore goes through the jaw. So basically it will bend that rather than damaging main bearing that run the jaw. Big money! The spring assembly is a draw back to keep everything together and should be fully tensioned at all times when the jaw is running. Hope that helps you understand a little more. They also have a dump pressure to stop the toggle plate bending. Sometimes fails tho

Does it get scrapped, or is there any residual value in it?
Could it be refurbished - built back up with hard facing welds and machined back to shape & size, or is that not an economical thing to do?

Toggle plate is a fail safe for the crusher. It will usually bent if say a big piece off solid steel went through the jaw. Most crushers these days have a blow off valve to release pressure if this happens. Crushers are used on quarry’s and within the recycling industry. Hence the mag belt to pull steel out. You guys use extraction hoods when welding so whats the score with all that cement dust. My late dad worked 40yrs in the light then heavy plate shop in navy base. It was horrible to see him slowly 'suffocate' to death with I P F (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis), he did smoke though. Great vids. a must see, same as Dany's ✊️
Given that it is just the one edgethat has worn - would it be economical to build it back with weld ?

Looking at when you lined up the toggle plates, are they reversible? Looks like you might be able to flip it and wear down the other edge too?

Toggle plate is a fail safe for the crusher mate. That will fail before it damages anything else such as main bearings. Big money
@welderfabber oh right from what I did see I thought it might have been but I was always told if u don't know just ask
nout wrong with that toggle plate years left in that the bottom ram with the spring on it stops your noise either ram seals gone or check valve bypassing baxter used rubber springs if they wore you got your bang
It was the check valve in the end. The toggle plate needed changing before it damaged the seats anymore! 3k for seats.
