OMG! I'm sooo happy Spicy Moustache was in this video! Absolutely love the duo! Also super helpful that you guys released a small-space video. A lot of gardening videos have huge spaces but it's nice to see something for us small-space folk! All of these tips are amazing!
Yes perfect timing! I currently live in a SE facing apartment in MD with a 4x9 foot balcony. My balcony is full of grow bags for cucumbers, tomatoes, tomatillo, zucchini, mini squashes and melons, etc., as well as a vertical structure of herbs and of strawberries. I also turned my second bedroom into my garden room with an indoor planter table next to my big window - that’s where I’m growing leafy greens and some cooler temperature root veggies. Still finding that I’m running out of space and need to get more crafty with it, so this is perfect timing 😊
I want to say I have forwarded many of your videos - but your short, four minute kratky one from a while back mostly. Nowadays with the world so nutty, I believe it is really important for people to be growing - or at least supplement growing, what they eat. In a SHTF scenario - you definitely don’t want to have an outdoor garden for all who are hungry, to see. Your four minute video on Kratky someone sent me years ago - is THE PERFECT INTRODUCTORY VIDEO and has kept me growing ALL KINDS of herbs/veggies for 247/7/365 for years now - on a bakers rack with some black tubs and led’s. We eat from our Indoor kratky garden DAILY. I honestly believe every single household needs a 3d printer and a kratky setup. I could go on for hours on all we have grown, and tried - with ZERO bugs, or need to treat chemically…anyway. Thanks a lot for changing our lives, for sure. 👊🏽
When I first started growing we lived in an apartment with no balcony. Using grow lights and grow bags we were able to put together a pretty impressive little indoor garden! Luckily we have moved to a house with some room and have a large garden now, but it's nice to have the knowledge of small space gardening because we still use some of that knowledge even now with our large garden! Awesome video!
I'm used to small space gardening. In 2019, when I was able to garden at home, I used fabric pots. In one I grew an Early Girl tomato plant, some marigolds and nasturtiums, and a couple of market more type cucumber plants. In the other two, I grew California Wonder pepper plants, bunching onions, and marigolds.
Making macreme planters have made me able to fit about 16 to 18 plants in my tiny 2x8 ft balcony. Earlier i had half the number of plants in the same space it felt congested, cluttered and disorganized. I've made the macreme planters myself but had to buy the s hooks so got it all that done for less than abt $15. Edit: i can fit about 8 or 9 more if i drilled holes and mounted stands into walls...i hang the others from the overhanging grills of the balcony
Super high density is seriously the key! Very well said Kevin. Like you, we've got a bit more space than when we started but learning to plant and plan for density is still the best tip I can offer to anyone setting up a new garden! Really enjoyed this one 😁
Glad you put out this video today, you are inspiring! I just up cycled gallon water bottles as planters this morning. I also love watching the spicy mustache!
I love your ideas. In my yard, which is mostly trees, plus s toddler play yard and a dog yard for 3 huskies, we don't have a lot of space. I made 3 4x4 short raised beds, 5 small tower planters that are 3 high, I is 5 high (dollar tree) and 8 14 inch pots. I love seeing your raised beds
Amazing tips! I wish I would've known about your channel a few years ago when I dipped my toes into growing food I also started my gardening on a patio in our last apartment. We were on the north side of the building with a 4x4 concrete slab and rock bed around that. I grew cherry tomatoes and peppers in 5 gallon buckets, moving them around at the beginning of the season to maximize sunlight. Small space gardening is definitely more labor intensive, but totally do able. I'm lucky to be renting a house now with a small yard, and the landlord was very chill about letting me put in a raised bed, and my options are more open now. I'll still benefit from this video, as my growing space is still technically small. I still grow cherry tomatoes and peppers because they hold a special place in my heart because of those early days.
I've been growing peppers in 2 litre lemonade bottles made into drip irrigator pots put just in front of a south facing window. Just slice the top off as high as you can manage, drill a hole in the cap and put water in the bottom. It won't be enough soil for them if I let them get old enough but for the time being I've got about 16(technically 17, but two have inseperable root systems) pepper plants in that space, flowering and producing fruits. I could fit in even more but I'd need to get another shelf. If you can use bigger and wider bottles, since you're gonna have to space them apart due to foliage anyway.
1st year gardener here 🥲 We have 6 beds, 7 whiskey half barrels, and 10 grow bags. We have lettuces & carrots in nearly all beds, and they’re crammed lol. My thought was I’ll harvest them as baby lettuces & will have a salad or two a day. It’s working, my tomatoes & peas/ other veggies are thriving as well. We get at the very least a very big salad a day. We have berries & a very prolific pea in the whiskey barrels, and potatoes in 9 grow bags. We’re harvesting the potatoes a little early, but we’re succession planting & have for taters for days. We also have some sugar pie pumpkins in a grow bag, and so far I spy with my little eyes 2 female blossoms. P.S. I bought like 53 packets of seeds from y’all and it was something like $86.05 shipped 🥲 thx for the sale
Everybody calls me crazy for crammin'. But Kevin does it in his raised beds and pots and grow bags. Me, I have a limited amount of space and only have 3 of 4x2 raised bed grow bags right now. I may get 2 or 3 metal beds for next season to add more plants and so my plants are not as close together because I feel I could be overcrowding. I really want to try my hand at sweet corn but that could potentially take up 1/3 or more of my yard which is also covered by a massive maple tree.
Keep the small space growing content coming! I'm making taking notes and making plans for the following year when my baby is a toddler and showing her where her food comes from
After almost 2 years gardening research I still to struggle to know which plants to plant together in my raised beds. Maybe in time I will get there. I did sew my own grow bags last fall but only used them for my seedling transplants before planting. I need try your grow bag area tip! I keep watching your videos... and take chances!
I keep on learning in my little tiny classroom here on my quarter acre. Put up a privacy fence in the back and I've got that thing jam-packed! Been taking steps since 2019 and I'm getting there. I had a five-year goal I'm working towards it. I'll see you at the homesteaders of America conference and October! I bought tickets as soon as they announced it. I've never been and I have been saving to go. I don't know how you left a six-figure income when I can't even leave a 41k😂 But I plan on moving back down to where my family is in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Kentucky! Haven't got all that worked out, but I garden, my freeze dryer is on its way, I put things in the pantry. All the things. But until I get out of this neighborhood in Ohio, I can't really do much else!! See y'all! I can't wait to meet everyone that I feel like I love like family, now! I hope to see Jessica, big time! I've got family that lives a half an hour from her. Wouldn't that be a cool spot to transplant myself!? 😎
How cool to see your humble beginnings! Love this episode, love your channel, and love your collaborations! How cool that you know Spicy Moustache! I started following him a month ago...he's amazing!
I absolutely looove these ideas! I don't have a problem with space but for me my backyard Is almost completely shade and I also live in tornado alley, so I'm constantly moving My plants around so your grow bags are how I'm gonna thrive soon 😅😂❤
I agree with cramming. I grow on my terrace on the ninth floor.. my daughter asked me how many plants i have,.. i said i dont know. But i grow the most i can. I even have a fruiting plum, and other fruit up here. Cram
i knew about the brb sale but not about the bi sale and just ordered more seeds for this year and next.....am addicted to nasturtium. will come back next year for the beds when i have a house!
North Carolina State University reports that there are more than 10,000 (ten-thousand) varieties of tomatoes. Kevin, this is a great video (and of course we love Spicy Moustache.) Small space gardening: there's a relativity to the concept of small space gardening. I went from having acres to grow if I chose last time I was watching your vids and now I'm growing in pots inside and around a studio! I feel like your vids are going to be even more informative for me now I'm growing like yourself more so and not the massive spaced out beds I'm used to, been hitting some challenges so far as everything seems more sensitive but I also started at the start of winter just about when we got the house which doesn't help, already got 20 varieties and over 50 seedlings/plants so far. Keep up the good work mate love it !
Amazing deal on the Birdies raised beds! Unfortunately no shipping to us Canadians... I'm gonna need you to take my money and ship a few to me personally Kevin! :) Thanks for another great video!

great one! i love all the variety you've been putting on the channel. also, ones for small spacers really hits the beginners sector too, which is nice. :)
I have a huge backyard but with an HOA, and I just found out my back neighbor loves to spy on me. I wanted a garden though, so I was going to have a garden in our first house no matter what. I'm disabled though, so I need really high raised beds with a lot of space between them. I'm starting with just 4 small-ish beds. My FIL is full of experience and gave me tools and gardening books, not to mention contact info for our local extension office. My nephew and niece just helped me finish setting up and planting a bunch of fall veggies 3 days ago! I don't expect much for my first year, but that's not going to stop me from trying!
Went to my local garden store and saw they carry your Botanical Interests seeds. How cool is that? It was a beautiful display too! Picked some up for next year.
I just bought some seeds! So excited. And like I was just adding them to cart all willy nilly and the total was only $26! What! I spend more than twice that whenever I buy plants
Great episode!! Definitely a small space gardener here in my no balcony, window sill, bamboo shelving, and grow bag garden in my dining room here in NYC!✋🏿I definitely want to take advantage of vertical space but tight now I need to seriously invest in some good grow lights. I am currently using DOMMIA Grow Lights. This year is I am growing my first set of vegetables and it has been interesting. The romaine lettuce is totally stretched out so much so you wouldn't know it was romaine by looking at it. 🤣 I knew the neighboring building blocked a good amount of sunlight in the dining but compared to the other rooms its the brightest room it turns out it is no where near intense enough for the lettuce. The cherry tomatoes were stretched too but the stems are thickening up so it should be good. Definitely continue with the small space series!!
I was experimenting with tomatoes and didn't want dirt water to drip down to my neighbors below so ended up making "grow bags" with Amazon grocery bags, trash bags, duct tape and coke bottles with holes. Actually worked really well on an almost no budget. 😂
Be careful using plastic like that. If it's not food grade plastic, toxic chemicals can leak into the vegetables. And even plastic water bottles have been found to have a lot of microplastics.
On top of some really epic tips which are going to be really useful for my own small space, that was an absolutely EPIC ringtone! :D Really takes me back
Ah well timed. Even with a decent backyard, I am going to try cramming and more verticality. Also, hoping thay reduces pest pressure in my beds. And l am def looking into comfrey now!
I have a tip for space saving tomato with good yield... Grow the mongolian dwarf tomato 🙂 Biggest tomato can weight 150-200 grams each. Only downside is that it might need support for those tomatos
I’m a doofus! I didn’t realize that Botanical Interests was your company until AFTER shopping there from a recommendation from another channel 😅 It was honestly the best seed haul to date! Sweet! My garden is officially epic now! Thanks guys!
Ordered my first 4 raised beds that sale finnally convinced me gonna start composting seagrass soon as im off vacay living on a 2 mile long island we got plenty of the stuff washing up. Also what are those radiant purple flowers or plant google says lobelia wondering if its right
Hi, love all your gardening tips. Question: Can I use the 4 cell 4 inch small garden starter kit to start scallions from seed and then leave them to grow without transplanting elsewhere? I want to grow in a small kitchen window space. Thanks for any hints you can provide.
My 3 year old daughter has a toy phone with that same exact ringtone. I’m laying her down in her room right now while watching this and let’s just say I was tripping for a minute. Lol
help! I direct seeded some herbs and peppers a couple of weeks ago and then my family and I found out that we have to move! My seeds haven't germinated yet. If I bring the soil with me (where I planted them) in a pot or a bed will my seeds still have a decent chance at germination? I also have some fairly well established potato plants, sweet corn and peas. Will these transplant ok? Any tips, tricks, advice would be much appreciated!

Spicy Mustache's ASMR scratches the itch I never knew I had.🤤
We do!
Yes please. I've been wanting to see a collaboration with the two of you. Today's own was great!
The spicy mustache colab was a nice surprise
We go wayyy back!
Yes a welcome surprise. Much love for spicy.
Great to see Alessandro in this! I like his vertical planting setups and how he recycles things to use in the garden.

Love hearing this!
Please keep the small spaces series coming! I love it! My grow bags are in a tiny kiddie pool to make watering easier! #mobilityissues
Great idea! I'm using wine bottles but the pool is a super idea!
That's brilliant!
I loved the collab bro and we should defo make more 👊
loved you in this. gonna look up your channel, if you have one. : )

Ho! Spicy Moustache!! It's fun to see him there!
Liked the Spicy Moustache cameo. Love to see you do another UK trip and hit up Dowding, Chilli Chump, Huw Richards and more.
That ringtone though! Takes me back to my childhood!!!

I grew that spacemaster cucumber last year. It definitely did not disappoint. I couldn't believe what I got out of so little plant.
It packs a lot in a small space!
Love Spicy Moustache! I’ve followed him and he has much to offer growing and recycling.
Keep the small space growing content coming! I'm making taking notes and making plans for the following year when my baby is a toddler and showing her where her food comes from

I agree with cramming. I grow on my terrace on the ninth floor.. my daughter asked me how many plants i have,.. i said i dont know. But i grow the most i can. I even have a fruiting plum, and other fruit up here. Cram
More small space gardening? YES please!! 😁🌱
Thanks for the tips Kevin. Much love from Trinidad 🌾🌻🌴
Woah! Spicy Moustache! I love his channel! 👍🏽
i knew about the brb sale but not about the bi sale and just ordered more seeds for this year and next.....am addicted to nasturtium. will come back next year for the beds when i have a house!
URBAN GARDNERS are close to my heart❤. It doesn't take a sprawling suburb homestead to grow amazing food for your family and grow a better future.
Couldn't agree more
North Carolina State University reports that there are more than 10,000 (ten-thousand) varieties of tomatoes.
Kevin, this is a great video (and of course we love Spicy Moustache.) Small space gardening: there's a relativity to the concept of small space gardening. To some people, the 961 square feet (approximately 89.278 square meters) I have within an enclosure is ipsy-pipsy-nothing-there and to others, it's vast.
I know it's subjective, but would some of your viewers chime in and talk about what they consider "small space" to be?
Not saying, of course, that all the tricks and techniques and methods and hacks don't benefit large garden spaces, too.
Much gardening love from Northeast Ohio! 😊💚 💚💚😊
its pretty wild to see the homestead in its original bare form. and as a viewer just remembering seeing that compared to what it is now
I have a 4 square patio porch thing that I pack full of fabric pots and such. Gotta watch your foot placement but I like growing stuff!
Mini bell tomatoes are the best for patios. They don’t need cages and they only get a foot high
Yes please do more small space gardening do a video on small space tomatoes and cucumbers, and squash
Great tips, Kevin and Spicy Moustache! I’d love more small space tips for my raised bed and container garden 🪴
Kevin and Jacque are the best
Amazing deal on the Birdies raised beds! Unfortunately no shipping to us Canadians... I'm gonna need you to take my money and ship a few to me personally Kevin! :)
Thanks for another great video!
Hoping to get Canada online soon!
I live on the second floor of an apartment building. Cramming is my mantra. Got permission from my roommates to attach some boxes to our railing since i'm out of floor space
Love these small space videos, I'll be moving soon and the yard is a bit weirdly shaped or proportioned, I can't bend down into a garden anymore either so I welcome any and all ideas. Thank you and Spicy Moustache had some good ideas too.
Perfect Collab with all the garden boys
Love the episodes where you pop out from behind something
I love that you feature other gardeners… 💕
great one! i love all the variety you've been putting on the channel. also, ones for small spacers really hits the beginners sector too, which is nice. :)
Appreciate this!
I really needed that additional 100 sq ft. of garden space! Thank you 😭👍
we ❤ mr. moustache
The Jacque call voice was funny 😁. I love a great seed sale!
Kevin what is that blue flower in the opening shot at the top of your green stalk?? It’s beautiful!
I am growing about 40 vegetables in a small garden in Japan. All organic of course. You should come visit.
Hell yeah so good to see spicy mustache out in here❤
You're my main go-to gardening channels
Thanks Kevin...always enjoy Spicy Moustache...
Went to my local garden store and saw they carry your Botanical Interests seeds. How cool is that? It was a beautiful display too! Picked some up for next year.
Amazing - thank you for the support!
Wow. That's one of the brands I have been using. I had no idea it was the brand sold here.
I just bought some seeds! So excited. And like I was just adding them to cart all willy nilly and the total was only $26! What! I spend more than twice that whenever I buy plants
Glad to hear this Ricky!

You keep coming up with great ways to help everyone garden! Love your collabs
Such a good deal on seeds! Stocked up on a few things for next year!
Glad to hear Savannah!

I watch both of you guys. Great tips. Thanks!
It's a shame I can't get Birdies beds in Poland. They would really fit my garden.
Ah well timed. Even with a decent backyard, I am going to try cramming and more verticality. Also, hoping thay reduces pest pressure in my beds. And l am def looking into comfrey now!
Very helpful tips. Thanks!
Great tips and a beautiful garden 👍. Thanks
I have a small space in San Diego! Slowing figuring out how to make it most efficient!
I have a tip for space saving tomato with good yield... Grow the mongolian dwarf tomato 🙂 Biggest tomato can weight 150-200 grams each. Only downside is that it might need support for those tomatos

So Epic gardener, when waiting for your potatoes to grow, what do you plant in the container with them? Thank you!

Lol
Awesome stuff! I am a small space grower too 👊🏻🌻👊🏻
I like the vertical ideas! 🎉 That mustache dude is cool!
Just the video I needed!
What are those orange flowers with your lettuce?
