Sadly with how the manga is structured, this is really the only place they could end with a 12-episode "season". The early arcs are a little odd as Tatsu finds his footing with the characters and worldbuilding. The Serpo arc in episodes 8 to 10 is actually considered the weakest arc of the whole series - so you can imagine just how insane the coming 12 episodes are going to be.
Time to watch some comedy or wholesome anime to wash out the bad taste of that scene, also this is why frieren is so highly rated, no controversial trope and just straight up wholesome shonen❤
10:01 Momo consistently has a gentler, higher-pitched tone when she's talking to Okarun privately. Something similar happens in the dub, albeit with a slightly more breathy, huskier voice, almost like Momo is slightly crooning to Okarun whenever they're alone. The voice direction for this series has been on point the whole time.
I noticed this same thing as well and every RUclips reaction channel that I've watched, I keep noticing it, especially in this episode when she told him to sit.
I think the production committee really wanted to continue the show for about 24 episodes, However, the show is also full of battle scenes, so it takes a lot of time and effort to draw the animation pictures. We must not forget Jujutsu Kaisen did that and the animators criticized MAPPA for it.
It's just standard practice to do split cour in a 24 episode season on tight deadlines which is normal for the industry. What JJK experienced is an anomaly because of two factors, one is that while MAPPA technically had a lot of time given to them by TOHO(member of the production committee), they didn't do it because they had to split workforce due to them producing CSM and both JJK and CSM share the same 2 production desk under Seshimo. Biggest example of this is that after the 1st half of JJK season 2, nearly half of the desk disappeared with the likes of Niinuma, TNK already absent from the show and names from free lancers came out like m1so and the go team assisting. The entire 2nd half was left for Gosso to basically be the animation producer since he was the one pulling talents in like how Yoshihara did for Black Clover.

When I read it in the manga the hot spring attack upset me on a visceral level. Something about the reality of the setting was just far more disturbing to me than the more fantastical abduction trope from episode 1. That cliffhanger was horrendous in more ways than one. I feel as they they should have showed the resolution to that scene so viewers wouldn't feel so bad ending it there.
Actual dirty cliffhanger for anime only fans🤣Read the whole thing and i was still pissed of that ending. Just saying that season 1 has without a doubt some of the weakest arcs compared to what is in store for season 2+, its going to be amazing! Season two announced for summer 2025!
So the cliffhanger is a goofy ass choice for a place to stop because, without spoiling anything, there's a better cliffhanger spot coming up so soon they could have probably fit it into this episode if they wanted to. Instead, they decided, "Hey, what if we made sure everybody knew this show was really only targeting 13 year old Japanese boys?" and went with what we got. Folks in the comments will swear up and down that "It was really clever because it makes you uncomfortable!" Using that kind of assault three times in 35 chapters of a manga to create tension isn't 'clever,' guys. It's gross. On the bright side, it doesn't happen again insofar as I'm aware in the manga.
yes, it is a real thing that happens and i really hate reducing it to a trope and wish i could find a better word to describe it 😕 but in this show’s case, it seems to be a reoccurring theme/motif, which is the exact definition of a trope
Personally, I think this season finale is incredibly mid, and despite being good, it's still the worst episode of all season 1. I was hoping for a better cliffhanger, but at least we won't wait too long until July. That's the one sliver of light we have in this dark world.
Alana, I'm right there with you on the assault trope shit, having it as a first episode shocker was okay but I actually hated that part so much that I'm not even watching reactions to it this week because it just makes me uncomfortable and I don't want to hear people's opinions on it, lol. Yours is the first one that I actually checked out to see what the consensus was and I'm glad you feel the same. See you in July!
I feel like I put Momo in those situations for two reasons. 1- because it is a reflection of the filth of society that exists in all and with a certain frequency. Because it gives you that strength, that hope in that kind of fictional situation. Therefore play with feelings to anchor yourself.
Not gonna lie the hot spring genuinely scared me. Rules of Shonen she's going to win somehow but dude why is a kid constantly put in these SA moments. It's legitimately super popular despite people not admitting it but people get paid more to depict crap like that and wtf
Japan has an active problem with SA. Did you know if a woman defends herself from gr0ping on a train, SHE could go to jail for retaliating violently? Did you know kids in Japanese schools aren’t allowed to wear ponytails and only wear specific underwear cuz lawmakers think “male students and teachers will get distracted”? If anything, the manga is meant to highlight how bad it is. But the anime company decided to use it as a cliffhanger which I dislike
@@ma.2089 I totally agree with the dislike against the ending, but your descriptions about Japan are clearly outdated or at least are not representative.
Dude, i kind of respect the fact that the season end like this, dont get me wrong is fuck and that cliffhanger is terrible if you have to wait until july, but the fact that they are so confident that the show is good and people are gonna wait for the rest no matter what that they dont have to artificially mess with the pacing of the story (cutting things or adding unnecessary stuff) for fearing that they wont get a second season like most shows, i can assure you the animatos knew they where gonna get a second core or season after the third episode, this show is just that good. and belive me the next arc is nuts and amazing, so either wait or star reading the manga, either way the author win🤣
I get your point and actually I kinda agree. Id rather have that than a botched pace and story but damn they could’ve gotten us a longer episode or a episode 13 Its not uncommon.
@@NuntFugget yeah i that is something i fucking hate, an anime get popular and some, not all of them, but some small group of manga reader asholes start spoiling some stuff to other people. and look i encourage everybody to read the manga, but let the anime only people just enjoy the surprises without spoilers
@@ElNebuler i get that, i want to belive that it was production issue, the way the season was made it feels like it was a 24 episodes season but maybe because latter episodes and arcs need more work or the higher ups were just testing the waters if people like this weird show so they only greenlit money for 12 episodes, who knows, i just want July to come fast so that we get more of this fabulous show
I disagree only because they took something that was like 2 pages, the mannequin running from the school again to Grandmas house and turned it into something that lasted way too long and took up time in the episode. And that part literally does nothing for the story. I think they could have paced it a lot better and at least gotten to a BETTER cliffhanger. They're literally going to start the next season with another sexual assault. 🤦♂
Leaving it mid chapter is weird. But the arc isn’t 2-3 episodes max. From where we ended we are 14 chapters away from the finale. If an episode covers 3 chapters per episode, then that wouldn’t have been enough. If they followed the manga pacing the finale would’ve been better.
Yeah I wish there was 1 more episode, because there's a far better cliffhanger they could have used, and we get more great character building moments from someone during the resolution of the Momo scene
I think this half-way ending is intentional. If you know the manga original, you can see it in a different light. The scene where Waza and Momo are attacked in the hot spring. Who is in it? The original story is drawn to counteract piracy in a certain country. Well, the anime was replaced because it became an international issue, but I don't think it could be helped, but if it had been the original story, it would have become an international political issue. But I think they ended the film halfway to guide the original story for piracy. So bad is the act of piracy in one country.
No, that character was simply _also_ a reference to "vamo la!', a famous TV commercial catchphrase that the manga author likes (plus a japanese pun reference to a specific kaiju).
i can't believe they ended it like that 💀 see u all next july AHHHH

Alana, I'm right there with you on the assault trope shit, having it as a first episode shocker was okay but I actually hated that part so much that I'm not even watching reactions to it this week because it just makes me uncomfortable and I don't want to hear people's opinions on it, lol. Yours is the first one that I actually checked out to see what the consensus was and I'm glad you feel the same. See you in July!
Jamiuwus didn't like it either
I feel like I put Momo in those situations for two reasons.
1- because it is a reflection of the filth of society that exists in all and with a certain frequency.
Because it gives you that strength, that hope in that kind of fictional situation. Therefore play with feelings to anchor yourself.
Fruits basket 😥
Id rather have that than a botched pace and story but damn they could’ve gotten us a longer episode or a episode 13
Its not uncommon.
I'm gonna read it because
SPOILER WARNING!
I was spoiled on Jiji's transformation design from a damn YT shorts thumbnail 😑
No worries. This is the last time the series uses that weird SA trope.
The dubbed out killed sub on this episode 😅
what happened to fruba reactions?
oh wow u still alive
Can’t lie leaving it mid arch is weird. Especially being that it should only take 2-3 more episodes max.
@ you sure your not combining cursed with evil eye arc? You might be.
Is fruits basket not coming?
I'm going to give this anime a second Second chance because I really liked it, but I'm not happy at all with this scene.
that's the last time the trope will be used so don't worry for the future seasons
Just read ahead and see if it’s going to be up your alley going forward. No reason to wait 7 months just to find out.
Yeah I wish there was 1 more episode, because there's a far better cliffhanger they could have used, and we get more great character building moments from someone during the resolution of the Momo scene
Day 2 of asking you to watch Arcane S2
dandadan has ended so instead of this please make a reaction video on The Eminence in Shadow
Okarun might as well give up momo to jiji at this point and understand why he’s so likable
No need to wait if you read the manga. ;)
Jiji probably forshadowed about new character in the train scene when he says "Vamola"😮
No, that character was simply _also_ a reference to "vamo la!', a famous TV commercial catchphrase that the manga author likes (plus a japanese pun reference to a specific kaiju).
The kind of cliffhanger you think will force you to read the manga but actually…
we’re going right for the doujins with this one 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
To be fair Okarun had also been stripped by aliens for his banana. The show doesn’t shy away from those themes
