Personally I like the theory that Gordon was the one who left the pen in Strahm's pocket - Considering the fact it was the ONLY thing left on his person whilst everything else on him was deliberately taken off his person, it was definitely planted there. Makes sense that Gordon, as a doctor, would know a tracheostomy would save Strahm's life, because Hoffman DEFINITELY intended for everyone to die in that scenario, but because of how Saw 3 and 4 are linked, it would make sense that Gordon was around (maybe as a 'just in case something messes up' scenario), since he's the one who suggested Lynn to John.
Great list! Definitely looking forward to a dumbest moments. My vote has to be from Saw 3D easily. Bobby pretending to be a Jigsaw survivor is just insane lmao.
Dr. Gordon coming back is SO SATISFYING. Like I will rewatch the end of 3D just to get that moment of him saying "game over" to Hoffman. Gah. I have no idea why it's so satisfying to me lol.
I think they had the Amanda scene planned out. At least the note and who it was from already planned. Hoffmen immediately took center stage after that scene, essentially becoming the main deciple (aside from Dr Gorden, wink wink), and the character motivation just lines up too perfectly. At the very least, the idea that she was being solicited to make that choice and didnt want to actually kill Lin was there. She really didn't want to, and she potrayed that in the scene. It wasn't out of rage, or exasperation, or jealousy. It was depression.
4:20 In a post-credit scene Amanda tells Corbett "not to trust the person who will save her." After we see Hoffman take her out of the factory in Saw V I would not be the least bit surprised if she relayed this information to the cops and deliberately played dumb until they were able to verify if he was actually involved or not.
Would also include Simone in the beginning of Saw 6 I believe. She chops her own arm off to past her test, since the other guy had had more of an advantage with his flesh from his stomach. I thought that was a pretty smart move
Someone, I don’t recall exactly who, said the other guy was especially foolish to cut off his stomach fat because he’s exposing lots of vital organs, or at least giving them a lot less coverage
"He did so good of a job that he had Billy in it before anyone had even seen Billy." --- ANNNND I immediately start screaming because I never put that together!!
One overlooked smart move was in Saw 1 when Jigsaw had an escape plan for when / if his hideout had been discovered. Having the shotguns hidden away & armed at the ready was dope move to be fair! Another possible big brain move was the fire alarm that was pulled in Saw 1 in the video tape that helped the detectives find Jigsaws hideout. Possibly pulled by Hoffman as means to get out of Jigsaws blackmail if John was taken out. Hoffman would've walk away as a freeman.
Might be in the comments, but somewhere on this list should be Daniel Matthews keeping the secret of his dad being a cop as long as he did. Amanda knew, but she did her part in the game to "let the game play out"
Dumbest moments could include: 1. Judge Halden standing in the way of the bullet. 2. Bobby Dagen using the hooks in his chest, when there were several ways to cheat. 3. Zep in Saw I could have helped by going to police or hospital, as there was no immediate threat keeping him in the Gordons' house. He even knew where the bathroom was and that there was a literal killer sedated on the floor. 4. Obi and Addison had traps which were easy to totally avoid 5. How did the Fatal Five not realise they had to "work together". I don't think they all would have survived anyway, but I always found it a bit astounding that the big twist was just that there is no i in team.
Let's not forget Jeff basically getting himself injured without saving anyone other than Judge Halden - make up your mind, Jeff!!! Either leave those people to die or help them out ASAP! Or the two-timing chick at the start of Saw 3D - if you had picked a side (either guy), you'd likely have the guys only going after each other rather than you with the saw blade!
I think Hoffman learning from and knowing Strahm enough to know that he wouldn't get in the reinforced glass case to escape the crushing walls trap room was a triumph of superior psychology, albeit horrifying to see the villain win.
Make it a top 20 dumbest decisions list, that would be epic. Honourable mentions for smartest decisions: Saw 3D - 2 guys decide to sacrifice their cheating girlfriend instead of each other. Saw VI - girl on the carousel saying she is pregnant (can't remember if she survived or not, but the idea was good in theory). Saw X - the hospital worker deciding NOT to steal from the patient.
i think the smarter decision in the shotgun carousel is the woman telling william about her kids, because he felt sorry for her and kept her alive. the woman after her tried lying to say she was pregnant and got killed because the others just called her out for lying
Honorable mention to jeff unscrewing the key from the shotgun trigger. He waited too long and the judge was an idiot, but jeff didnt take a shotgun to the face
I don’t know what you guys think..??? I personally feel that Brad and Ryan from Saw 3D made a smart decision by letting Dina fall onto the saw blade since she was playing both of them 😂 I was genuinely happy they agreed to that
One possible way that Hoffman may have known that Amanda was with Cecil when he killed Jill’s and John’s unborn child is that since he was a cop he would have access to the security footage at Jill’s clinic and he saw Amanda on the security footage.
I think people are way to hard on the people making "dumb" decisions in saw movies. You cant imagine the shock, terror, stress and fear you would feel waking up having no clue as whats happening and then someone says you have 1 minute to escape or you will die. First and foremost I think a lot of people would think it was some practical joke and when they realise its real they dont have that much time left. Plus we who are watching the movie get to know pretty much everything while most of the victims dont know anything about jigsaw.
I thought they hid Perez death bc Jeff's daughter told her in the hospital not to trust the man that saved her; therefore, Perez thought it was Hoffman and asked her survival to be kept from him until she gathered more information....
Two other underrated faves of mine: Sing shooting the drills on the Drill Chair in the original Saw when he knows he won’t get the key in time, and the first Shotgun Carousel survivor using her children to convince William she should live in Saw 6.
It’s possible Gordon could have placed the pen on Straum while Hoffman was grabbing the little girl. Its a stretch, but so is Gordon being an apprentice in general.
I'd have included Simmon personally, cutting off her arm when faced against a guy who had so much more physical flesh to sacrifice was so bold and smart. Even better, it was played so perfectly by a first time actor, scream queens winner Tanedra Howard and got her a returning role in the next film. Otherwise great list guys!
I love this list! Nice job guys! Please give us dumbest moments. My pick might be Addison putting both hands in the glass box when she couldn't get the needle with one hand. Especially since we can barely see the lock at the edge of frame, which would also imply the existence of a key.
I agree in loving it when Logan tricks Halloran. In fact, the Laser Collar is in my Top 10 Saw Traps, even though it’s rigged, Halloran had it coming after what he had done, so it was satisfying to me.
I like the decision made by Gordon at the start of Saw 3D, when we finally see how he stopped himself from bleeding to death. It was painful, but it was smart.
I would love to see a video by you guys of various other films where people are kidnapped, or tricked, into horrible situations, like a 'Similar to Saw' video. You have Escape Room, Cube, and various others you could cover.
I’m late but number one is my ultimate favorite, I agree Hoffman was able to use his surroundings. It does make you question what would’ve happened if he wasn’t there during that time. Would he have lived? The same applies to the bathroom trap, if he escaped the reverse bear trap is he capable of escaping the bathroom?
Wonderful list! I don't know if it counts as a smart decision but I would put honorable mention as Hoffman anticipating Strahm not entering the glass grave. For the protocol, Mark had only 45 seconds and not 60
Loved the list, but not the Hoffman love. Lol! Hoffman is one of my least favorite characters, but to each their own! Thank you for putting together this list!

Nr. 9 was so predictable to me and yet i first stamped it off as a Movie mistake that Logan’s face wasn’t cut up lmao idk why I thought a saw movie would be fine with it not being bloody as hell.
can handle gore but just have to look away at like dislocations, breaking bones like fingers, bones coming out of skin. Just... uncomfortable stuff like that.
It was planned to bring Dr. Gordon back but because of the actor's grievance with getting substantial pay, he didn't appear till 7. That being said I find it VERY hard to believe that the directors weren't planning on utilizing him in some way. It's kind of wrong and silly to say the entire series was rewritten and retconned, and the same goes for claiming it was all inspired from fans. I really don't appreciate this perspective because it takes away from the writing of the series. There are issues and setbacks in the writing, but it's still pretty solid. I personally feel this video is very opinion based and not really grounded in facts.
While I agree that giving himself a tracheotomy was a smart decision, Strahm still ended up dying. That actually makes me think of a question for you guys. If you had to pick between drowning or being crushed to death, which would you choose?
The old way of crushing by slowly raising the weight can probably take longer than drowning would plus hyperthermia would probably kill you before drowning does if the water is cold
I mwan technically technically gordon did not appear in any capacity because he was sueing the saw peeps for like the better part of a decade over payment disputes and it was finally resolved so they could like get an appearance.
they were planning to use dr gordon as a apprentice the whole time. In saw 2 you can see him working on the iron maiden victim. We know its him from his hobble on the same side he lost his foot.
Actually it was confirmed on the Saw 2 directors commentary that director Darren Bousman chose to have the hooded character limp spontaneously, and never planned it to be dr Gordon when responding about the theories! It all just worked out in the end!
@@HorrorSauce ooo interesting! I love learning new saw knowledge. Glad to have a real answer I appreciate it. Over the years so much more information comes out it’s awesome! Love the content,Kramer out.

There is a running joke that due to continuity errors about the way “Adam’s body” is presented in the sequels, it leads conspiracy theorists to believe it’s not his body!
Jigsaw was spoiled the moment they showed the doctors shirtless back. At that point we knew he was the one that never woke up in the original barn game. The rest of the movie was really pointless after that

you keep saying adam might not be dead...dont we see his dead body in the bath in one of them?? like a rotting corpse. if the bear trap is all locked, how does he wiggle out? surely it would be too tight regardless if it was stuck in the bars
how does Hoffman knows about Amanda you ask... as you said he's a detective and he currently has a competition for the jigsaw "role". Obviously he's trying to get rid of it and what an easier way to find dirt on a drug addict criminal then checking his background in the police files??? You don't have to be over 120IQ to do as Hoffman did :)

especially because gordon’s own pen is what linked him to the scene in saw 1.

Simone's arm is my favourite smart decision of the entire franchise.
