I don't think I have ever seen a person on the internet with as many grown men that are in love with him as Ian from Forgotten Weapons has. You guys have some hot and heavy crushes on him that would make anyone blush.
Jesus that gun looks like something from the '70s. We were fighting with M14s until Vietnam, meanwhile Germans had a proper Assault rifle with scope decades earlier.
The two versions of the Sturmgewehr that you mention,"H" and "W", were not both designed by Hugo Schmeisser. H was the designation for the Haenel design whose design team was led by Hugo Schmeisser. W was the designation for the Walther design based on work done by Karl Brauning. Reference "Sturmgewehr!" Handrich
Also reference some old school Gun Jesus Forgotten Weapons videos that cover the topic and designs quite well for short videos 👍 Also big shout out and thanks to RIA for allowing Ian access to so many awesome pieces of history over the years! 👏👍
Indeed. Both are still manufacturing weapons to this day. Haenel and Walther that is. Obviously old Hugo is long gone. Haenel has some really nice stuff.
I don't even speak English very well and I already thought he was saying something wrong while I was watching the video. Though there's an exceptional example of John Browning in America and Belgium, having guns designed by a same designer in two different companies is an odd thing to see in war time Germany, I think. Thank you for the correct information.
@@liamg1706 I guess it really depends of what you appreciate or consider artwork doesn't it ?? I have my opinion...you have yours, I just happen to appreciate German engineering from that time period !

I never understand why people would press dislike on these kind of videos What're they disliking it for? Are they angry that the guns aren't pristine and with zero scratches? Sad that they aren't firing the gun?
@@activatekruger446nah. We’d still win the war but at a greater cost. These weren’t as reliable as you would think. The Allies, particularly the US, still had the logistics and factory power to outmatch the Germans by 100 fold. Plus they couldn’t fight a multiple front war
@@activatekruger446 Really? Do Germans speak English or Russian now because Germany was defeated? Can't force the people to change language they speak except if done gradually for a century or so. Not losing control over the territory for that long is next to impossible though.
man that STG-44 is beautiful, and the aesthetics are out of this world. the STG-44 is the epitome of everything I think the AR platform should be. As much as I would love to have an original STG-44, I cannot wait for PSA to release their version of the retro STG-44 chambered in various different calibers, wil probably be the closest think that I could remotely afford and to be honest It will be an act of God if I can get a PSA version of the STG 44
I might just have to nab one at tax return time after they release, but it may be an act of God if i can convince my wife why i need a gun that cost 3x what building my AR15 did lol.
Insane how ahead of its time this thing was, this thing up against a bolt action or even something like an M1 would be like a Corolla up against an Aventador
-adding to my 3 pre-speakers. Plus am crying rn. Plus am sad, another time, at that it seems to me as if all weapons had been swept out of my beloved homeland Germany, where I grew up and live(Bavaria), neither my two Grandpas had any equip left, nor did I ever see stuff from ww2 anywhere here. Tho, I had the opportunity to shoot, disassemble, assemble and practice with P1, G3A3 and MG3 when I served in the Bundeswehr 2001 - 2004. Stg44 shown as here is a dream, I wouldn't need more, ever.
Great video! Just one note. I would not translate it "Storm"rifle even though Sturm does translate to storm. Sturm also means attack/assault, especially in this case. Example, the attacking position in football/soccer is also called Sturm. So it is, quite litteraly, the first Assault rifle. Keep up the fantastic work guys and greetings from Germany.
I hope whoever wins the auction phones up Gun Jesus and some firearms antiquities experts and asks them how best to preserve (note: not restore) this weapon, or decides to donate it to a renowned firearms museum. If this gun were restored to shooting condition, I think we'd all be in an uproar. You just don't find rare pieces like this with 90% of the finish and matching serials everyday.
this beauty is in shooting condition and ready to go. Guns of this rarity are often just investment pieces. You want a shooter you find a lesser example and a handful of mags and enjoy.
It really is crazy how advanced germany was at the time, imagine if they had all the resources they needed to sustain the war and hadn't attacked russia
The ZF4 scopes and scope mounts were never widely used in the field. Their use was abandoned after trials proved that the accuracy using the scope was far below expectations. The fact that many MP-44/StG-44's still had scope mounts on their receivers was either due to the Germans not wanting to make another design change to the production line to remove it, or the expectation that the mounts could later be used with vampir infrared night vision, if vampir would be made in numbers great enough to be widely issued for the rifles. RUclips videographers need to delve deeper into research so they don't present a false impression, such as the use of ZF4's in field service on the MP-43/44/StG-44 series of rifles.
After watching Gun Jesus for so many years, RIA's official channel is FINALLY recommended to me! Great presentation!
