@@imreallydamntiredi’d still pick the sigma 70-200 vs a used gm ii, sorry but the image quality is up there with the gm ii, better OSS on the sigma as well since it’s a newer lens with better advanced technology (2021 vs 2023) and yes i’ve owned both, at 200mm as soon as you half way press the shutter the OSS on the sigma is so still, whereas with the sony i can still notice a bit of a jitter.
@@RCGJR_ Is the autofocus same fast? I would like to get 300 mm f2.8 (to be honest) but, I feel it can wait a few months more for the decision. I know, I know.. it's just 200mm, while you can put TC's on 70-200 GM II and still have better macro and better focal range but its double the price and idk if that is worth it, IF I STILL WANT TO SELL it just a 6-12 months later.
to anyone watching this video, here are a few things he doesn’t mention: * note those prices were in USD & not AUD. that’s cuz for some reason, the retail price of the sigma & GM2 here in Australia is almost the same (maybe $100 difference unless they’re running a sale/special). * that’s why I went for the GM2 when I bought mine 2 weeks ago, cuz why pay for a 3rd party glass when a native glass is just the same price & I’d argue better overall. * Sony also caps 3rd party glass to 15FPS I think. Not a deal breaker unless you have the A1 or A9 series. * No disrespect to Sigma whatsoever (I have the 85 1.4 & absolutely love the quality), but as someone who owns the 14 GM, 35 GM & 70-200 GM2..the focusing speed & accuracy of all those compared to my 85 Sigma is night & day. You just can’t beat Sony on Sony. Those XD Linear Motors are to die for. My 2 cents, if you’ve already got the money to pay for the Sigma 70-200, maybe just save up a couple of more months & then blindly go for the Sony 70-200 GM 2. You won’t regret it & you’ll be thanking yourself…so will your non-trigger arm.
I see the SONY 70-200mm F2.8 II at around AU $3199 and the SIGMA 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN for around $2499 (and as low as $1999 on DCXPERT). AU $700 is a HUGE difference, especially when you factor in how well the Sigma version has been reviewed.
Just got the Sigma 70-200 last week. Awesome lens and picture quality. Didnt see the mention that Sony put a Max of 15 shots a seccond when shooting continuous. For shooting with surtain boddies probably the Sony lens wil be a better choice depending on the budget but recon that when someone has such a camera body they can affort the Sony lens
I had this decision to make myself recently and decided to go with the GM mark 1 used from mpb. I mainly just chose it for the ergonomics of the Sony Vs sigma and there's no way I could justify even to myself the asking price for the GM2. I'm so glad to finally see a comparison video of all three 70-200 available on emount. Cheers for the shit one
@@forsaken8382there's probably 100+ videos on this channel alone featuring the GM1 and showing thousands of awesome photos so it can't be that bad. It's far cheaper than the Sigma when buying used. It's parfocal so will be significantly better for tracking moving subjects whilst using the zoom. According to Sony website it's fully compatible with the A9 III including 120fps Vs 15fps on the Sigma, making it more future proof and usable for sports. According to DXOMARK the GM2 is only 2 P-Mpix sharper than the GM1 (53 Vs 51) which isn't significant and is nothing a tiny adjustment in lightroom can't even out. You can easily remove the tripod collar, unlike the Sigma. The Sigma has a wired lens hood design that obscures part of the zoom ring, whereas the GM1 has one of the best lens hoods Sony has ever made. My point is there's plenty of reasons to buy the GM1 over the Sigma.
@@david9912gt3rs MPB are great I have spent thousands through them and had on one occasion my lens that I sent to trade in marked up a grade than what I thought it would be , so yeah they have been honest and reliable. They are also the cheapest by quite a bit.
@@forsaken8382 do you have either of the lenses ? Do you know how much I paid ? I paid £1200 for an excellent condition mark 1 I tried the sigma in a Wex store and did not like the ergonomics of it. In regards to image quality, well the lens has been serving professionals all around the world extremely well since its release so it's in no way a bad lens.
Great video. I’d be curious to hear what you thought after looking at the differences in post, see if there’s any differences you see on a larger screen
Thanks for actually comparing the Sigma against the og G Master. Literally every other review out there only compared it with the mk2 trying to make the sigma look bad and it just seemed weird to me.
hi mike, you're like my biggest inspiration and i love your work and your videos. I just wanted to say that i personally prefer, when showing the images, when the image doesnt cover all of the screen. Just a little bit of blank space is enough, just like you did with the shot at 10:52, i think it enables us to see the picture in its entirety and not having to focus on just the center.
Your editing is extremely dark, is that 100% on purpose or do you maybe have your monitor brightness super high? I don’t hate the editing, it’s just that I’m a bit surprised by how dark it is. It looks a little like the highlights are the subjects sometimes.
I have the 70-200 f2.8 G Alpha Mount (SAL70200GM). So noticeably slower auto focus and increased weight. I have to use an A Mount to E Mount adapter. BUT it still takes great pictures. And the cost is now like under $750 USD.
I'd really wonder what you'd think about the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 in comparison, as it's even lighter than all of them and cheaper, though it possibly should have some trade-offs to consider.
I always have issues with my 70-200 gm ii I don’t use a tripod and when I take photos and zoom in later they’re never sharp, always a little out of focus or just blurry like I was moving. I don’t have the same problem with any other lens. I have the 24-70mm sigma and the 35 1.4gm and those don’t give me that issue.
Have you ever had a chance to test out the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8? I would be curious, what is your opinion on that lens? Rocking a 16-35 GM and the 35-150 Tamron instead of the typical 3 lens combo 16-35 24-70 70-200 for example. I shot a lot of travel content, street photos, events, festivals (mainly video shooter). And I was considering ti get this Sigma 70-200 with the 24-70 lens or the Tamron 35-150, which I am currently testing.
@@MikeyYuanYhave you decided? Looking between these two also. Leaning more towards the gm M1 mainly because I can get it brand new for the same price as the sigma.

The Sony MK1 sucked, and still sucks. The MK2 is the top of the line and perfect for anyone with the money or getting paid to be a pro. Everyone else, the Sigma will be perfectly fine!
I would say that for 95% of people there’s no reason to ever buy the mk2 over the Sigma
buy a used mkii over a new sigma imo

nope theres fatal downside like weight, the reverse focus and zoom, and lenshood design that eats the grip
