This is one of those modern songs that really came along and shook country music. It was breath of fresh air to hear something that sounded like classic country and had such a beautiful message. First time I heard this I was in the Navy and we had a radio playing in the hangar bay and this came on. Everyone just listened and was like wow.. That was awesome. Great memories

Jamey Johnson - In Color, when he said "And if it looked like we were scared to death like a couple of kids trying to save each others, you should've seen it in color" he's really meaning by "... in color" you should've seen it for yourself because them pictures don't really express how it was back then.

This song is one of the most genius country songs ever. He is bringing out the difference between how we see things in black + white, meaning in hindsight, as opposed to in real time (in color), when you’re going through it. The anxiety we all feel right now, wondering how bad will it really get, will grandma and grandpa in the nursing home make it through, no photo of any color will ever be able to capture. This is an incredible truth about life and memory, and he put it all into this 5 minute song.

I'm 45 years old and was blessed by God to have known my great-grandparents on my dad's side.
My great grandfather was born in 1896 and passed away in 1986. My great grandmother was born in 1901 and passed away in 1990. I can vividly remember sitting in their living rooms and listening to them talk about major events in the world. They were there and remembered so much. The loss of the Titanic, hard times and sacrifice during WWI and WWII. They remembered how this nation came together when we finally put a man on the moon. They raised a family during the great depression. They lived through so much and I was able to hear about it first hand.
We used cassette recorders and spent hours protecting their stories. Recently we had them transferred to digital media. Hearing their voices was kind of like this. To someone on the outside you hear a voice, but have no connection to it . . . no memory to set the voice to. I get to see it in color. The yellow flowers in grandma's dress and the red in grandpa's can of pipe tobacco as he lit up to tell us about going to school in a one-room schoolhouse or working on the farm from sunup to well after dark.
Too often people today overlook the elderly and write them off. They don't share in conversations with them, learn from their past and experiences. We're losing history every day.

I've seen him several times. Fantastic each time. Last he opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd. As part of his encore he did 4 Walls of Raiford, a song by Skynyrd and he absolutely nailed it. This song definitely reminds me of my grandparents . Grandpa was a WWII Navy veteran of the Pacific war. My dad, aunts and uncle were all depression era kids. He wrote Give it Away both he and George Straight had #1 songs with it. He also did a duet with Allison Krause of the Ray Charles classic Seven Spanish Angels

This has been out for quite a while and I always liked it when it came out, but it didn't blow my mind. For some reason when I saw the performance that he did live, I think for Farm Aid, I lost it. I haven't seen him sing it live where he hasn't shed a tear. It's an absolutely beautiful song and it's a testament to his family and how he was brought up that he would honor his grandparents like this. You definitely have to look up that video, also because he looks like a different person than he used to. He's gotten completely a different persona thing going on. It definitely works for him!

It brings me joy watching you kids on RUclips listening to the old songs. Y’all are stars a definitely way more entertaining than any one in Hollywood. I like this song too and the part where he says “you should have seen it in color” means you should have been there or it was real life and we lived it. Don’t worry about the WuHan Virus too much. We are Americans and we will figure it out. Keep praying and trusting. We will get back to work soon enough and hopefully we will have all learned something 😘🇺🇸👍. I remember being the remote for my parents with our 19 inch black and white tv. Not locking your doors, driving to get where you're going on vacation and old route 66, as route 40 didn't go all the way to California yet. Stopping at all the roadside tourist traps. Unexpected detours due to rock slides, washed out bridges and fires. It was a time of wonder. We hadn't been to the moon yet. We were just getting into the Vietnam war, Kenney hadn't been shot yet. When America was still feeling the vitality of post war {ww2} growth. Time spent at my uncles farm fishing and hunting. The youth of today miss out on so much tied to their phones and videos games. Sorry to ramble on so much.

My grandfather was born in 1909 and I asked him one time about the "good ole days", he said he couldn't remember any good ole days back then because everything was so hard and everyone he knew was poor and hungry. He passed away in 2002. He did go to war in the 1940's and he never talked about it, his kids said they didn't even know he had a purple heart until they were preparing his funeral, sad.

I bought this album, and his Black and White album roughly 10 years ago and would listen to it in my truck a lot.
The Black and White album had two discs, and almost every song on the two are sooo good. The song, "I Remember You" probably impacted me most.
Edit: Scrolled through every comment, and I'm the only one who mentioned that song. **sigh** Lol

Great reaction, this has been one of my favorite songs for years. My grandfather died 4 years ago and he always said the same thing when looking through the old photos.
Blacktop Mojo did a great cover of this.

I was raised up in the black and white era. All our pictures were B&W. Most magazines were B&W. We had a B&W TV and got the first color set in the neighborhood. I watched several TV shows transition to color. It was a strange time.

This was a song that my Dad said my brother Jay liked to play when they were in the car together, he said it reminded him of how we grew up. He said because it names Joe. My brother Jay died in 2013, song wasn't even out that long. Usually can't even listen to it.

I know your evaluating music and the lyrics but one thing I noticed while watching your channel is your heart for the message which people are trying so hard to share with the public. Without asking I know you are a child of God. Bless you. Always be true to that simple small quite voice which is consistently talking to you. You have a heart of Gold. Protect it. Make sure your man knows his job is to help protect it as well. God Bless.

We didn't have a color TV until I was 7...and we had a whole 4 channels to watch. I was the remote control until I was 12 or 13 because my Dad always made me get up to go change the channel for him. Less than 20 years later I was carrying around a laptop worth about $8,000. Less than 20 years after that many people were walking around with far more computing power in their phone than what that laptop had. The advancement of technology in my lifetime has been nothing short of astonishing...but is nothing compared to what the younger generations will experience.

You are such a loving soul and these songs speak to you in the way that they were meant to. I love reaction videos but so many of them just don't get it! They are in it for the likes and the subs and the financial support but they really aren't trying or even capable of understanding the meaning behind the lyrics. You have the kind of soul that these songs were meant to touch and as much as it pains me to see you get emotional, it brings me joy to know that someone else can be moved by them the way that I am. Love ya, girl!
