    When Viren goes to research about Aaravos, if you pause and analysis his bio, it would say, that Elves look down on Humans because they didn't possessed any form of Magic, but Aaravos saw this and try to make them equals to Elves by teaching Humans Dark Magic, but of course you'll all get to realize how that turned out.

      yeah, but of course it's slightly wrong, it should be *regina draconum*. for "queen of the dragons." Draconis is indeed genitive (the case indicating relation or possession) but it's singular not plural as it should be but since pig latin basically stands in for dragon language or somesuch perhaps we can let it slide.

    Of course [spoiler] the fact that Callum managed to connect with the primal source shows that everyone has been wrong this whole time. Humans *can* do Primal magic and that - ironically, perhaps - the Elves prejudice that "oh, *they* can't do magic" rather than - as Lujanne did with Callum - actually trying to explain it is what drove Humans to Dark Magic.

    I think this show's definitely turning into a western-fantasy-equivalent of Avatar The Last Airbender. They weren't exactly subtle about Callum probably being the first human to use primal magic on his own, with no assistance through an artifact. And it's no coincidence that he started with Air, just like Aang.
    Also, I'm starting to wonder if there's a different kind of dragon for each Primal Source.

    • @Lachy314
      @Lachy314 5 лет назад +25

      Brian Sanders id like to believe that Callum is just the first known human to us to learn an arcanum. I can’t suspend my disbelief enough to the point where I can accept no other human in history has ever learned an arcanum through some deep epiphany like Callum had. That’s like Lex Luthor being the only human to know the anti-life equation in DC comics.

    • @chandlerblack1667
      @chandlerblack1667 5 лет назад +9

      There are dragons for each Primal Source, just like elves are. The main difference is that dragons have a much stronger connection to the Primal than any other creature.
      Also, I kind of hope that the show tries to stand on its own. I like a few Avatar cameos and ideas that are incorporated into the world, but I also want the story and the world to be more "original", and not some kind of altered sequel idea.
      I'm pretty sure there's plenty of hope, since the first 2 books are in the Pentarchy (human side), and the 3rd book will be in Xadia.

    Making a case for dark magic:
    As stated in the show, it was believed that humans could not preform magic, because they're not naturally connected to any of the primal sources by birth. Now imagine what it's like to live with that. Elves and Dragons can use magic, and that allows them to create better tools and weapons, preform tasks that no human could, not to mention magic's various combat application. Taking all of that into account, humans are at a severe disadvantage. What human blacksmith can compete with sun Elves forging? None. So in work and trade humans would always be second rate (or eighth if you consider all the Elf clans plus the Dragons). And as if that wasn't enough, magic can also be used in war and combat. Humans had (or have if the confrontation between Amia and the Sun elf warrior is anything to go by) no way to counter that. The thought that your neighbors could probably destroy you without much effort and you couldn't do much about it is terrifying, even if there were no open hostilities between Elves and humans before the time of dark magic. So magic wouldn't only have inspired feelings jealousy and bitterness, but also fear. And if we can take away anything from the last few years of politics is that we humans are very susceptible to fear, and would buy into stupid things at the promise of safety.
    And so the humans did what we humans always do, they thought their way around the problem, they invented something that would put them on equal footing with the Elves. That something being dark magic. And if you think about it dark magic is no different than using animals skin for clothing, it is what we do when we have no choice. So as long as it's not being over don, and you don't hunt sentient magical creatures, dark magic is really no more evil then eating meat (please no virgin/vegetarian comment).
    Lastly, I'm willing to bet it was the Elves and Dragons that gave it the name Dark magic.

    • @jayfeather278
      @jayfeather278 5 лет назад +5

      Aaravos gave the humans dark magic. It isn't known that he was the first one but it's a theory. Aaravos doesn't have a problem with humans as we see and he too thought it was unfair that only the elves and dragons had magic. My theory is that for that he was locked in the mirror or whatever is behind it. The only thing I can't figure out...if what I just said us true, why does he know so much about the events outside the mirror? He's narrating the introduction of the series even though he's been in a magical mirror without being able to see, hear, well sense anything outside the mirror for the last 300 YEARS!!!

Electric spells are fast, deadly, and depending on what your enemies are wearing, a great offense against armored foes. Ice has great potential defensively. It can create walls of ice to protect people, but also has the power to freeze adversaries in place. The wind part of sky magic is the most interesting to me for one reason, utility. We have already seen it be utilized outside of combat already (ex. helping Zym fly), but i KNOW that we will see aspero continue to be the swiss army knife spell. The reason a lot of humans might not think of Dark Magic as evil or bad is because not everything that is "dark" is also "evil". It's more of how you use that power. The reason this Dark Magic seems more obvious to being evil is how to cast it. You need pieces or or entire magical creatures in order to cast one of these spells.
    SPOILER ALERT!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
    Callum casted Dark Magic in order to free a Sun Dragon and help rescue Rayla. Claudia used a powerful spell on Soren in order to help him move again. In both of these cases, they did what they thought was best given their current capabilities. It might be okay to use it ONCE when the circumstances are dire, there's no other way, or something to that extent, but even that might be a stretch.
    I think Harrow (the king) put it best when he said it was a "shortcut". It's like a cheat sheet that you can always use; if you overuse it, you don't actually learn and develop a crutch on it, and in Dark Magic's case, hunt more magical beings in order to use it.

      1. You use some scape goat for it.
      2. It can be dispeled.
      3. You cut your arm clean off, remove the band and then reattach it with magic.
      If the spell has one feature that borders on omniscience then it is troublesome.

    While this hasn't been explained in show, supplementary material has indicated that humans can preform magic without a primal stone or resorting to dark magic. However that took years or study under a wizard, most likely an elf wizard. I think when they split the continent the elves stopped teaching the humans and the human wizards died out. Then it was forgotten humans could even do primal magic, they were just not born with it. Lujanne might not even be old enough to remember when that still happened and the elves developed certain notions on how humans are.

    I'm sure plenty have already drawn on this comparison but, dark magic could be a form of star magic Aaravos is the one who taught dark magic to humans, he's a star touched elf who are strongly linked to and may be born of stars. When stars die 3 things can happen they can supernova, expand and die slowly or collapse and become black holes, dark magic is a siphoning form of magic that can consume any magical energy similar to how a black hole will consume anything in it's path even stars far larger than it.

    I believe the magic system here counts as a middle ground between a soft and hard magic system. It’s not as complex and rule focused like bending or alchemy. But it’s not as ambiguous as LOTR magic. It seems more in line with the magic in stories like Harry Potter or final fantasy.

    An unofficial 'rule' of writing is to show the evil character early on, like how in RWBY the narrator from the first episode turned out to be Salem, the boss of the antagonists. Aavaravos is the head antagonist, controlling Lord Viren, who controls his children, and likely next season he will control the kingdom. (As it is heavily foreshadowed.)

      They are trying to stop the growing threat of war between Xadia and the human kingdoms. When Rayla and Callum get Azymondias back to his mother, who better to negotiate peace? The elves, the dragons, and the king of the land that borders Xadia. Of course, Viren won't be happy about that, but Opeli has him locked up for now. Ezran will make the best hope for peace, he's one of only two humans that know elves are decent folk too. The three protagonists will be the key to a peaceful end, and Ezran needs to be on the throne for that. Maybe a chance of an alliance with Aanya of Duren too, two child monarchs.

    I think that aaravos might be trapped in the cube and the mirror is a way to see aaravos. Maybe because he studied dark magic he was trapped by the dragon king. By unlocking the cube Callum might free aaravos. The reason that aaravos isn’t trapped in the mirror is because he also has a mirror in his room so it doesn’t really make sense. In the show we still need a main bad guy aaravos might be him because he doesn’t seem to have any side he is kind of two faced and he might have been pulling all the strings in the series.

    I think the cube is how they trapped Aaravos. If it is used by a magic creature or being that uses magic from each of the different sources. If they can infuse each rune maybe it transports that being into the mirror. I say this because they have to somehow get Star magic and that seems very rare. To claim it unlocks a great treasure was a way to get Aaravos to touch it in the first place.

Here are 2 sources with the translations. It's actually really interesting and may hint at Aavaros perhaps being trapped in the mirror due to actually being the one to teach/gift dark magic to humans. Check out the links below!
