What's amazing about this conversation is when Ali disagrees with Codie on her point that happiness is struggle, Codie refutes Ali by “agreeing with” Ali first before attacking Ali's home base by implying his understanding of “struggle” is wrong (“maybe we need a different definition of struggle”) . This feels like a dexterous move in taichi.

It comes down to technique; a downtrend gives you room to focus on the market and grow significantly in the short or long term. While it is easier to make money when the market is rising, a downtrend can still yield high returns if you have the necessary knowledge and skills. For this reason, I have been scaling up during this difficult period by working with an investment advisor; this has been the only way I have raised up to $150K in the last 3 months.

Two things that Codie says around 1:22:00 really changed my personal finance mindset:
"The ROI of you is infinite. The ROI of an investment is capped."
"You invest to beat inflation and prevent your money from getting eaten away; it's not going to make you rich unless you're actively involved."
I need to be more open-minded about investing in my skill set. ❤ My money mentality from growing up in a single-parent household has made me apprehensive about investing in myself through online courses, certificates, etc.
I want to become financially free, and at this current income and investing + savings rate (40-50% of gross), I will not be retirement ready until I am 120 years old 😳 I definitely need to boost my income and level up my skills.

33:13 and WHATTTT? Did she just ASK Ally to share his views & experience? I listened to a tons of podcasts and I could barely recall if I ever heard someone doing this to the host. What a curios person by nature!! Perhaps a good trait inherited from her jouranlism career :) Or a something to get her into that from the get-go. Or BOTH :) Anywayyyy

@@pandconfid. She is an amazing communicator and talks a good game, but there is something missing. She is sharing her journey of hard work and entrepreneurship, but I am not sure there is tangible long term evidence of her multi million dollar success. Her mission is to help other people own homes. What tangible steps is she taking to make that mission come to fruition.
She is intriguing and I have listened to her in many interviews, but I feel her comments are focused on getting rich, but again, I don’t see anything outside of RUclips highlighting any specific successes and everything about her success is coming from her mouth.

This is one of the best episodes of deep dive I’ve seen. As a female and as someone who works in academia and wishes it were much more of a meritocracy, I completely understand where she’s coming from. It’s infuriating to work harder than most and everyone at the end of the year gets the same merit raise because it’s only fair and the manager didn’t want to offend anyone.

At 1:27:05, Ali asks, "How might a 16-year-old invest $1000?" and Codie responds, "Invest it in yourself. You need to learn at that point. You have to learn, then increase your earnings, then you invest. No 16-year-old should be taking their $1000 and putting it in the S&P. They would be much better off taking that $1000 and learning how to make a bunch of RUclips videos, or learning how to buy businesses" This made me realize that I need to invest in my skills rather than just maxing out my retirement accounts and getting by. 😳 So grateful to be learning this!

DO NOT flirt in every company you
Work at. A lot of businesses at least the ones that I’ve heard of, don’t do background checks and if they do, most managers don’t tell employees which workers are “predators”
So if you are gonna work the “flirt” angle to get ahead, be aware that you’re opening a door you might not be able to close whenever you want.
