The irony that everyone that Rihanna wasn't serving her look for this year, but after hearing this IT SEEMS SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO TRULY UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT AFTER ALL
And ASAP ROCKY. The patchwork quilt
i understood what they were going for. surprised not many others did
She always takes the theme seriously and still makes wonderful art out of it. Why can't everyone else do the same~ :')
Met Gala theme- America- a lexicon of fashion
The celebs- well...time to go old Hollywood.
I want him to tell us about every piece! So interesting and beautiful
My favourite piece in the whole video was the sweet and simple Claire McCardell wrap dress...its sheer perfection was in its simplicity.
I wish they would show a retro view of the clothes of the 40's. The simplicity and fit were exceptional.
@@arliepics4364 Hers were the best of the epoch.
Too bad like almost no one incorporated this concept into the dress theme of the gala because it would have been fascinating. There were of course exceptions… but not many.
This what the Met Ball is all about....the history and exquisite fashion!
I must have missed the exquisite part. Most of it is out of a dumpster.
The exhibition looks extensive and amazing, a tribute to the humble, the vernacular, and practical innovation. it’s quite staggering that most of the celeb+designer pairs couldn’t conceive of interesting or historical ways to respond to theme. Not everything is about glamour. Would have loved to see more workwear.
Tumbling block is my favorite pattern. Diane von Furstenburg is a design genuis.
@@themarquis336 I know, that is why the tumbling bock pattern is a separate sentence M. le Marquis, merci beaucoup.
thank you. thank you for allowing people who may not be able to get to New York to see this. it really makes the beauty and knowledge accessable!
P
people were hating on ASAP & Rihanna but really they followed it so well!!
Andrew, once again , I’m in awe of you and your team. The collection is tremendous.
I second that!!
amazing to see dauphinette in this display!! i’ve been following them for so long, it’s great to see how far they’ve come 🥺🥺 (also i’m obsessed with the Connor Ives one)
Living for the fact that Telfar Clemens has an outfit in this exhibition.
This is exquisite I love how deeply the theme actually and how many Unknown’s were also shown

andrew bolton's voice so calm to hear.
ASMR
I think some of the attendees of the Gala, should have a tour round the exhibition before they choose their outfits. This year must have had the worst dressed "celebrities" ever. Truly shocking.
Disgusting
You are so knowledgeable and articulate so beautifully Mr Bolton.A stunning curated collection! Cannot wait to visit soon!👋👋👋👋👋👋. The Met gala is not the same since it started being televised.
I wish they're put the 2000s teen celebs red carpet looks that has big impact of style in here in southern asia for 2000s teens
I viewed the exhibit last week. It' was inspiring, but I'm truly baffled why CFDA-recognized Natalie Chanin (Alabama Chanin) was not included in your exhibition. She's revolutionized the eco-design world.
Spectacular Collection and superlative Presentation !!! Bravo #theMet. Very informative & such a unique Collection of designers!!! I definitely got the sense.of history and emotion here !!!!👏👏👏👔♥️🩱👏👏👏
Thank you for this video! I wish I could be there to see it :)
Stunning curation, I hope Mr Dapper Dan is in there though
yessss
That tumbling block patchwork is everything. This exhibition is so well curated. Really wish I could see it in real life.
Amazing exhibit!!!
Guys it’s the designers who choose what celebrities wear, not the celebrities. The design house gets the invite, not the celeb.
Ummmmm no, the celebrities get invited by Anna Wintour and the team planning the Met Gala.
For anyone wondering about the celebs outfits, remember that a lot of celebs are invited to be there, and they are strongly suggested on what to wear by the fashion houses, unless they are able to create a custom piece. Most garments are off a runway, which has nothing to do with the theme.
I've been waiting for this!!!
This is an amazing showcase
absolutely stunning video
Andrew Bolton is such an insightful eloquent man
Wow I never knew about the work of Patrick Kelly before! I love it!
Thank you.
I could watch that for hours
It's too bad that few people actually got the assignment right at the Gala this year....
I was waiting for someone to wear a quilted garment, or a cute wrap dress.. didn’t see it :( I swear I wish the celebrities would have embodied more of this theme than whatever they thought of. A cheerleader outfit? Like how cute would that have been?!
That Connor Ives piece is so amazing and beautiful
L’exposition donne l’impression d'être grandiose !
Bravo 👏🏻 En espérant qu’il existe une visite virtuelle ?
thank you
wow, there was so many pieces I wanted to see more of that didn't get to be covered, that denim suit with the doily lace at 9:03 especially I'd love to know more about. The theme was a lot deeper and more intricate that I thought at first
That Réunion dress is so amazing
It’s sad & frustrating that celebs attending the MET are not doing the assignment right. The main idea of the MET is being thrown out of the window. People need to know it’s about the Art, History & fashion curated to showcase for people to learn & think.
101% agreed !!!!!
I feel this but also Anna Wintour is the person who approves all the outfits so I feel like it’s less about the celebrities. They don’t really have much choice.
Ty! Kiss.
This is so much more wonderful and inspiring than I was anticipating based off the name of the theme. It turned out so well!
Love the inclusion of Patrick Kelly. DVF 💋 I was very happy to own a Perry Ellis coat.
Forte coerência,,,
I would love to see the knitwear in person
Nice
✨🦅🗽🇺🇸✨
Theme: In America
Celeb: wears Chanel
Great annotation !!! But did Andrew just said sequence instead of sequins? 😜🙏🏽❤
These videos need to come out BEFORE the gala, because these celebs butcher the theme year after year. 🙃
This is BRILLIANT! Can’t wait to see it❣️
👍👍
Andrew Bolton is married to designer Thom Browne, most interestingly.
Will this exhibition of fashion, tour to Washington DC at the National Gallery of Art.
Beleza pura,,
Where is Stephen Sprouse? Charles James? Mainbocher?
Cmon Telfar!
thank you for this.
YES YES YES
My heart what an exhaustive and exhilarating exhibit
Yes, the pretentiousness is exhausting.
Cabin in the woods.
Hey! What about Geoffrey Beene, Rudi Gernreich, Calvin Klein, Halston, Narciso Rodriguez, Donna Karan.......
Looks like we only got a portion of the display.
if only they follow the theme.
NOT THE ARCTERYX JACKET
Beautiful, but Bob Mackie?
The real fashion of the time is the mask.
That mask😂😂😂
Why can’t a beautiful and/or interesting garment just be an interesting or beautiful garment?
what?
When I first heard that the theme America I thought about cheerleader or denim heheheh
the category for this years gala was to ignore the theme
Ja dann dann mach dir dir auch einen später Abend noch mal guten Hunger späterguten Tag Tag bis bald du hast dich lieb und ich liebe deine Mutter ich bin Er und was machst macht machst du dich was denn du du machst das du weißt weißt du dass ich net weiß was du du willst meinst
Haute Catastrophe. You can use all the complex euphemisms you like, but 90 percent of this show has the sophistication of a junior high school science competition.
How so?
a bit of a disappointingly narrow conception of 'America' in worn artefacts
❤❤ Please Help!! I’d love to know the piece of music played during the video. Please Help!! ❤❤
kim k, ciara and rihannas outfits fit the theme perfectly
The circus gala is such a stain on the magnificence and grandeur of this installation. The talent and vision represented here is outstanding. Far far beyond in scope and skill of ENTERTAINERS.
Why is he wearing a mask. He is presenting alone. I guess for the historical record ? It’s a bit performative ..
He may be Immuno compromised and is taking every precaution for his health.
He's an elitist Democrat. It's a political statement.
though interesting, this year's met gala theme is so boring
This is one of the most unintentionally-funny comments I’ve ever seen!!
and no one ought to wear some of these garments smh
I could have done without the "words",
Yes. The words did nothing to "interpret" the heaps of cloth and metal.
Baloney
One of these days I will learn not to read the comments.
I will learn to watch the Video first and the ready the comments. Greetings from Germany. 😊
I think BTS will make a great impact and unite people if they will attend Met Gala.
BTS? Bangtan Boys?
I HATE IT WHEN THEY TRY TO BE TOOO ESOTERIC WITH THIER CONCEPT WHICH NOT A LOT CAN FOLLOW THRU OR TRANSLATE!!! there's a lot of it really lookin back on the previous themes of the met! when Diana Vreeland was still the main event!! and what we are getting on the met from 2019-2020-2021 are overly tooo conceptual and the clothes looked soo forced trying to fit in with his concept!!! there's a lot of themes out there yet un-explored! I DARE BOLTON to really include culture the real america the native indians w/in its collection what we're seem to be getting are his cognitive diarrhea!!! fashion should be fun and relatable this is just fluffing his ego!
I hate to agree, but yes. With Andrew Bolton sometimes it does seem a bit like cognitive diarrhoea…
I think you give people too little credit that they would not understand or resonate with these pieces and the exhibition. I understand what you mean and I get that some of the most notable exhibitions may have been "more obvious" and "less conceptual" but I think each exhibit has its own merit. Each exhibit has its own story to tell and dismissing it would be just ignorant. Fashion is and should be diverse and why shouldn't the Costume Institute explore "more conceptual" and "less obvious" themes or subject matter.
Instead of complaining, I think you should just be grateful that you are able to see and appreciate designs and pieces you will never get a chance to see again. I think the exhibit is relatable and is resonant if you view it with no biases. I think you are the one not letting go of your ego refusing to accept learn and appreciate what beauty and stories the most recent exhibitions have to tell.
A mask in an empty gallery??????????????? Can't watch.
Please, no mask
Most of these costumes are ridiculous.
Sorry Andrew .... but this is one very very boring exhibition since forever. No matter how deep and complex ideas you want to display here, at the end of the day it's about the fantasy dresses people wanna see. I wouldnt waste my time to go see for sure .... see u next year.
He wants to make people think, not just look. Of course, people like yourself who are incapable of thought or reflexion are definitely not Andrew Bolton’s or the MET’s target audience. They don’t need you or want you there.
Oh and just FYI, next year’s exhibition is a continuation of this one, so it looks like you won’t be going to the Costume Institue in quite a while. Sorry 😚😉
Your comment is the exact reason why this exhibition is so important. These "Fantasy Dresses" you are talking about are only one part of the fashion narrative and honestly haven't there been enough exhibitions about it already? The Costume institute aims to give the public a chance to view fashion with more critical thought and in turn have a deeper understanding of fashion that resonates more than the clothes or objects themselves. If you just want to see "fantasy dresses" go to a costume store or Disneyland where you can daydream all you want. A museum and a curated exhibit is a space made for people who want to learn, think, and be enriched by stories and narratives they have yet to discover.
Every mannequin is white. Every one of them. Whether it “goes” with the style of background or not, the fact that every one is white says the designers of this still don’t get it. Even mannequin representation matters because it’s marketing.
Ok so why do the celebrities that attend The Met Gala constantly not follow the theme?!? There👏🏼is👏🏼literally👏🏼an👏🏼exhibition👏🏼showing👏🏼you👏🏼what👏🏼to👏🏼wear👏🏼! Sorry it just frustrates me that so much effort is put into these outstanding exhibits. Then the Gala roles round with its theme….and only 10% of the attendees follow it! Hahaha
Because of the $50K a plate for the event is all the MET cares about
Usually the designers are responsible… which is even more sad, they REALLY should know better. Celebrities don’t pay, fashion houses pay for the seats and put celebrities in them for free if they wear there brand.
Same. It’s like their teams don’t know how to research… 🙄
It is disturbing to me that Anna Wintour took over the Institute. She raises $ but the Gala is a freak show. And IMO she has awful taste.
@@janetthomas8244 when you raise over 200 million it’s pretty much what ever u wanna do lol that’s why she has so much power.
