Will, I feel inadequate to express what a valuable and selfless service you are providing for your viewers. I’m quite fortunate for a 72 year old retired nurse that my knees don’t give me any issues or pain. But I’m going to practice these movements to keep it that way. I have a friend who does have one very arthritic knee and I will be sharing this video with her. Thank you for you sharing your knowledge so generously and with such kindness🥰

Just came across your channel today, already ordered the book and signed up to 3 tip Friday. Given a lot of these exercises by physio but just told to do them, not shown how to do them correctly and just left to get on with it. Watching you I know why it hadn't worked!! Back to it....with much better instruction so thank you so much. Thank you so much for this video!! I'm 72 and was disabled at 50 with chronic pain from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety and depression. I was told this week that I need to have a total knee replacement to solve my pain! I was also told this 4 years ago! But with therapy I found on RUclips, at first from Bob and Brad, and with cutting out processed foods, carbs, and sugar, I have done really great with the arthritis and bone on bone situation in my knee!! I had a couple of falls recently and so I was scheduled for physical therapy for my ankles, calves and quads, and after a couple of weeks of that, my knee flared up again!! You mentioned the quads, but said first you have to help the flexibility of the knee!! I really think this will help me!! God bless you for ALL the great videos i have watched of you helping people over 50!! I really appreciate you!! ❤🙏🙏

Enjoy your videos but do want to say that some people may confuse knee arthritis with total cartilage wear. In my case both knees were classified bone on bone many years ago. If your meniscus is pretty much shot or your cartilage has deteriorated to a huge degree, no exercise will improve functionality very much. Total knee replacement is drastic but is sometimes necessary. My advice is to avoid replacement but accept that it might be required.

    • @maradall
      @maradall 2 дня назад +4

Also, in many cases (including for me) the inflammation in the joint is primary. I first developed arthritis in my hands, and was able to watch it progress. If the inflammation doesn't stop (and I do seem to have been able to halt it for many of my finger joints) then the bone becomes deformed, and after that the joint stiffens and loses its full range of movement. No amount of exercise will help, at that point. My right hip got to that stage, and I did have a hip replacement. But I am hoping to avoid a knee replacement, since that is likely to be less satisfactory.

@@maradallglad you are seeing success. I'm 72 and was disabled at 50 with chronic pain from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety and depression. I was told 4 years ago that I needed a total knee replacement, but with therapy from RUclips, and changing my diet, I have put off the knee replacement and shoulder replacement and my 6th spinal fusion!! I went keto 3 years ago and then stricter to carnivore, and my inflammation is so much better! Pain is minimal, anxiety and depression are gone, no longer type 2 diabetic, fatty liver is gone, and I am now off 8 of my 11 long term prescriptions!! Feeling better than I have in over 25 years!!! God bless you in your health journey!!

Your interview with Dr. Latham RE: hip replacement was extraordinary. Very good info on a widely misunderstood subject. I am facing hip replacement. I have no other choice. I exercise regularly, am in good health and tend to heal quickly. I will be on a walker for 2 weeks. After that, I'm not sure what to expect. My orthopedist is very good and has worked on me before. I have had surgeries for other things, but this is the first one where they will cut a piece out of me and take it away! I always do physical therapy,, including my "homework"..I am going to watch the interview again and take notes for my doctor, so I don't forget anything on my list of questions. Thank you for this video..

What a great video. I’m 69 and am beginning to feel a little bit of weakness and slight pain in my left knee. I have started these exercises today. One question I have for you is, what exercises can I do for bursitis? For the last couple of months I’ve been having pain in my left hip and the doctor diagnosed it as bursitis. She said the way to alleviate this was exercise. I’ve been riding a stationary bike but wondering if there is more I can be doing. Thank you very much.

This is so timely for me! I've got joint arthritis in hip knee ankle and currently having a flare up in left knee. I've been icing it and of course noticed improvement (of course leg was stretched out straight) but it wasn't until I was in the bath and stretched out that leg (full extension) and realized that THAT improved the pain, also that sleeping with that knee bent led to terrible stiffness, that I made the correlation. Am hopping onto your exercises (pun intended) forthwith!

Hello Dr Furlan, I have someone who suffered a major TBI in June of this year. We’re in October and she still struggles to walk, her speech is slow, in her words “I can’t process new information” (but she remembers, much better than me, things we did 20 years ago) We have a great NHS team that has worked with her since she was able to leave hospital. I would like to know if you consider this kind of trauma (because we are now starting rehab) nociplastic, nociceptive or neuropathic? Your nociplastic videos have helped me immensely with Fibromyalgia, thank you. Now we want to start the process of “rewiring her brain” because her next Neuro consult is only in Jan 2025. I avoid the knee pain and knee surgery by doing squatting exercise with holding dumbbell at front of my chest. I go down by keep my back straight and chest up and bring your knees forward at the same line of my toe tip without a chair. Every rep, I move down for three seconds and move up for another 3 seconds. This my legs strong and my knees strong

Love your videos Will. Im on the list for replacement because I have no more cartilage in my knee as well as some arthritis started. Will this help or is replacement probably going to be my only option? I love walking but it can start being very painful for me.

No one talks about the type of shoes one should wear to protect & help with balance those arthritic knees.
Can you recommend the qualities a
shoe should have to give the knees some therapy. Thanks

An exercise can fix the muscle causing the issue without or with surgery. Surgery comes from a word meaning injury, so it is good actually if you would much prefer to have the muscle innervation fixed. The dog is smart, he has only wanted to fix the issue. A physiotherapist has fixed the pain completely more frequently.

I'd like clarification: should we do each set of exercises separately building up until ready for the next one, or can we do them all in one set?

The insurance cie's no longer cover minucus tear surgeries in the States finding they don't help, when mine was done I made sure they only froze me from waist down and I got to escape hosp sooner! Our bud had hernia repair on his groin injury, it finished mid-aft but kept him there hrs until he was able to pee, my husband can't even purchase his meds for him (pain killers I presume). Our friend will still have to contend with whatever gave him his severe injury anyway! 😮

Are these the right exercises where it’s not arthritis but sharp pain just above the patella, where there is inflammation of the tendons attached to the patella?

I have severe arthritis in the left knee and have lost a lot of flexion. Would you recommend starting with the first exercise and maybe the second for a week or so? When I bend the knee too much it tends to cause problems.

I am 96 and my left knee was replaced 2007 and the Dr said the right was also in a bad way however I ignored the advice and now a although I can bend my knee completely and it can lie flat on the bed without pain it's really painful when I walk. It feels as if part the knee is knocking against another. What now. I live in South Africa!

I find it very strange that no one mentions how being overweight affects your knees. Is this now such a taboo 'politically incorrect' subject that fitness advisers totally avoid it in fear of being derided and cancelled?
I'm starting to have problems with my knees, I have bought your latest book, resistance bands, foot rests for under my desk and I watch your videos on this subject, but I wonder how much my weight is affecting my knees - I'm 70yo : 5'4" :157lbs?

Thanks, great advice. Question: is it ok to do the passive knee extension and weighted heel props on both legs together? If it’s one or both knees that have problems I guess you’d want the same extension and flexi on on both legs. 😅
