Absolutely agree! I moved into my new place just over a year ago, and the first thing the building manager told me was to feel free to do whatever I wanted with the walls etc. Even gave me the contact phone number for a man who could come in and hang my TV on the wall for me. Said I could put up backsplash in the kitchen etc. Plus, I'm a voice actor, so I asked if it was okay to set up a vocal recording booth in my walk-in closet and he said, most certainly; so I was free to treat the walls with acoustic paneling etc., no problem at all. And for the rates I'm paying for this place, I fee like I'm getting my money's worth because I was able to personalize my space for my needs. Greedy landlords who take your rent, and th en have the gall to tell you you can't put nails in the wall, are just freaking lazy, and don't want to have to plaster and paint over everything when a tenant moves out.
I'm a property manager. No, we do not allow people to do whatever they want. Do you know how hard it is to go over red or black paint? I do! I just did a walk out where a tenant thought it was OK to put garage epoxy on the patio. Yup! Black with glitter! Yeah. That fix plus all the others (red garage door to back yard) will take more than the deposit. This looks really good! Hope Xico feels better soon. I will say I highly recommend against a dining chair as an office chair for people with back or joint issues though. It looks nicer, but if you sit in it for any stretch of time, then it starts to become really painful.
She could get one of those stand-up computer desks that you put on top of the desk; that way she could alternate sitting and standing. They are pretty pricey, though.
Quick tip: I use an ergonomic back seat that I attach to my dining chair whenever I use it for work purposes (I used to use it at my office chair too, but WFH now). Seems to do the trick :)

People with back issues need erogomic Office Chairs to Avoid more damage to their Backs !!! Good Point... Remember Folks I'm a senior 75 yrs old so There Are Things LiFe has taught Us... Still a Beautiful Job...
I really love this little apartment! Very modern and cute. Loved the makeover too, just a few things that totally made the place feel more homey and comfortable.
As someone who works alot on a computer, I would never ever ever ever change the desk chair with a dining chair. It is not healthy! You should never do that. Sitting for 6 to 8 hours a day needs a soecial chair for that. You always replace comfortable with look, why?
Was about to comment this myself! She even mentioned that she works from home and her old set up made her back hurt, why would you totally disregard that?? Good design isn't just about looks, things need to be functional too. I'm sure there are plenty of ergonomic chairs out there that look decent, or you could at least dress one up with a throw blanket and cushions.
Standing desks are great for fit people for short amounts of time. Standing still for long periods of time is bad for your feet, knees, circulation, and your back. I have had to stand, at times, when back pain made it difficult to sit down, although I couldn't do it all day. Obviously, I have a back issue, so these ideas aren't for me. But, even when you're fit, you need to consider maintaining your joint and circulation health.
This is probably my favourite makeover of yours, you did a beautiful job. I do wonder why you never put a non slip mat under the rugs you use in your makeovers? I noticed the little rug was all scrunched up when you were both standing by the door in the reveal. I buy mine from Ikea and just cut them to size and they really do ensure the rug stays put.
Regarding buying comforters for beds. I’ve learn the hard way, that it’s best to buy the next size up from the mattress size. This allows the comforter to drape more over the sides and at the bottom, and can semi act as a bed skirt around the bed. Plus, doing so allows you to stay warmer in bed, as compared to if you bought the comforter to match the size of the mattress. People forget that when you’re in bed, that raises the comforter up, and doing so, it causes a breeze of air to come in from under the comforter edges -onto you, AND, the comforter pulls up Even More if you have two people in the bed. So, it is always best to buy comforters 1-size bigger than the mattress.
As someone who has worked from home since March 2020, I find that I am VERY comfortable on a firm dining chair. It’s the right height, and it’s supportive. So I applaud the dining chair at the desk. Though, mine has a cushioned seat.
I've been following this channel's journey for quite some time and this was one of my favorite videos. A makeover so we'll done. I really appreciate the "behind the scenes", makes it so fun to watch! If the AG team is ok with it, include these clips always! Thank you for being an inspiration! ❤️
So thankful you swapped out that duvet cover. I hated the other. The color brought the whole room to life! That was my fav part of the whole make over was the terracotta duvet cover.
Great makeover, for sure! So glad you changed the bedspread, both for the size (to cover up the underbed storage) and the colour - so much cozier. What I would do differently is switch the position of the full-length mirror with that little storage piece. That way, the 'nightstand' is closer to the head of the bed and the mirror isn't in her face when she gets up in the morning. Trust me, looking at myself first thing in the morning right out of bed would not be my choice. LOL Also a mirror that close to your head can disrupt your sleep. Otherwise, it's all delightful! :) ♥ Get well quickly, Xico!! ♥♥
I really enjoy how different the colors in the bed nook were from the living area. It really helped it feel separate but it still all flowed together. Also that floor lamp is gorgeous
After binging several episodes, I was excited for the color of the (first) bedspread to make it into a design. Of course, you changed it out. I love your designs. There's just a definite color palette.
This is such a cute makeover! I loved seeing the more relaxed interactions and how you've left in the details of when/where you changed your mind. Great look into the process, and really brings up the energy of the video too.
Without a doubt - WELL DONE!!! The location of the tall mirror by the bed gives a feeling of opening up the sleeping area, perhaps as if it's a window or another room altogether! The hanging plants and lamp at the foot of the bed give a marvelous "living" feeling of transition between rooms maintaing natural light throughout!! Explosion of color on bedspread is great! All in all, lovely!
Greetings from Dubai! I watch all your makeovers, and while your style (boho) is not my personal thing, I love your ability to transform spaces, work with an often minuscule budget, find renter friendly practical alternatives for those oh-so-demanding landlords, and deliver for your clients! I only have one word for this one..... Brilliant! Keep up the great work! xx
Out of the park! I think my favorite thing was the last minute duvet cover switch-out, and getting it oversized to drape down was genius! The whole studio looks so stylish.
Not sure if there actually was space to do so but I kept thinking a very narrow sofa table with drawers at the end of the bed would offer separation and additional storage. Kirkland’s has some great ones. Overall this makeover is a fantastic upgrade and adds great personality! This was a very challenging space to work with but I think y’all did a great job!
Great job Alexandria! I think the hanging plants for a subtle division is genius. You are the queen of creative solutions. I hope you heal quickly Xico and not just because you are adorable. But yeah there's that.
Such a cute makeover. So glad you changed the bed cover, love the bright colour of the new one. The playful tone of this video was fun. Great to see the interactions between the Family AG members.
i recently moved into my studio apartment in gent, belgium. watched a ton of your videos before this move, took down notes on how to turn a small space into yours, and i must say that i am VERY proud of the outcome. this is so beautiful. thank you so much for sharing insightful tips on every makeover you do. thank you!
Alexandra, you and your team and friends are incredibly optimistic and motivated. I feel there is nothing under the sun you couldn't do to improve a tiny space. I'm looking at my study now, a place we've had for 30 years that has undergone many transitions as we went from working from home to working together to finally having my own room. This has always shown how well I can ignore the clutter. Now, having watched several of your videos, I think maybe, just maybe, I can keep my stuff and also have an excellent working space. Before this, I practiced the three-thing rule, which is to put away three things instead of one.
Yes, that's one of the big takeaways for me on this makeover. Also, although I prefer real plants and natural materials, the plastic plants would weigh less than real plants in soil. That's a practical consideration when you can't put holes in the walls or ceiling.
Beautiful makeover! Well done Alexandra. On a different note, not being able to paint or put ANY holes in the wall is absolutely ridiculous. Why do landlords think renters, like, don't have souls? I'm sure she's paying an outrageous amount for this tiny space (if I know Toronto) so let her LIVE in it. Tenants hold so much power - we need to push back on this kind of stuff more.
Perfect makeover for a very small space. Love the space saving ideas and colorful decor without painting, plastering, drilling, screwing, and knocking down/blowing out any walls. Very innovativing. Really liked this one also!
Love it! The renter had done so well with the layout, and this makes it even better. Surprised Alexandra didn't use the IKEA shoe cabinet near the bed, I think that could be great :)
Alexandra…THIS “re-do” was PERFECT!! You addd MUCH style/LIFE to this space!! (ALSO…it was “CUTE” when you made that comment about your jeans’s zipper coming undone…! SO HUMAN!! SO FUNNY!!). 😲😂❤️‼️
Ultra-tiny black kitchen is viewable at 27:49 and 26:59, to the right of the wall of windows. No dedicated eating area, but she could use the desk--or the couch. Even with a dining table, that's where I always end up eating anyway. ; - )
Another excellent job. I didn’t know about Command hooks to use on the ceiling. That’s going to allow me to hang a plant in my bathroom without putting a hole in the ceiling. Thanks. I enjoy your videos a great deal.
Make sure that the command hook you select holds at least 40 lbs. The ceramic pot and dirt are heavy as well as the weight of the plant and increase weight when you water it. No it won't weigh 40 lbs but you can have some peace of mind not fretting about will it hold. Nor will you wake up to a loud thump and crash of your beautiful ceramic pot and the plant and dirt everywhere.
@@raquellambropoulos279 thanks Raquel. Good advice. In this instance I was planning on hanging a small fake plant so very light with no dirt or water concerns.
i wouldn't recommend it. if you're hanging plants, go the extra mile and get those screws in. you don't want the hook coming off and ripping off your ceiling, and/or your pot dropping and shattering on the floor or hitting someone in the head. it's more of a hazard than command hooks on walls just by virtue of being above you.
It has been a few years since first being introduced to AG. She has blossomed. Learned alot. Though she is young/new to this profession snd needs to learn more. Thanks for offering ideas to her.
I love to see renter friendly shows like this. I'm moving into an apartment. I've always lived in houses . Not sure how to decorate. You give me so many great ideas. I like shabby chic French country but I can still use several of your ideas. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
I’m watching this video AGAIN! I love it when the crew is featured but, I’ve gotta tell you, I am OBSESSED With James! I am old enough to be his grandmother, and he would make any grandma proud, as would you all. Watching these is so much fun !
As someone who has a lot of boardgames, I think I would've done a ladder shelf and desk combo against the wallpaper so she could put her boardgames out on display. Maybe that would've been more "clutter", but I think it would've added a bit more personality to the space and be functional as well! Loved everything else though, especially the standing lamp, the tapestry above the bed and bed styling!
I have mine in an ottoman storage box, it doubles as a seat or foot rest. I like the ladder shelf idea though for towels. Ikea have a combination chair and ladder back too.
This was so much fun to watch - and shows you can have warmth and personality with tight spaces, including rental apartments where the landlord doesn’t allow for many changes!
Haha, James is hilarious! I love the peel and stick ideas especially in a small place. I can relate to this. I’ve lived in a few rentals and they had the same rule. No paint and no drilling holes. It was difficult because I wanted to make my space look pretty. I love the makeover! 😍
Great job! I love it all but the king size cover to hide the under bed was genius… don’t know why I never thought of that! It went from uninspiring box to a warm and cozy home!👌
The fact that they were not panicked about Chico having a surgery made me realize they were in Canada before she even mentioned Toronto. Free health care
Alex! This is my favorite small space makeover you’ve ever done. I love your delineation of space/zones by color! Such a good job finding VERY STRICT renter friendly solutions.
This is a great small space makeover! One of your best, and with so many restrictions! Love the bed area - the color, the under the bed storage, the tapestry! All the touches that add so much to the space and yet define it! And what a view! A personal observation: I think it is so important (especially in a small space!) to keep clutter to a minimum, to be neat and, above all, to make the bed! It makes all the difference! Beautiful job Alexandra!

Wishing Chico a speedy, healthy and full recovery 🙏🏽 Great transformation Alexandra, you have a great approach to design and it is always interesting to see your creative process. I really didn't know what to think until the end and I'm glad I watched this video entirely!!!!! It looked like it was really difficult to design and even though I would have done many things diffrently it looks so great all together. Well done ♥
Using peel and stick wallpaper can be used in many ways and to even cut out pieced to create your own art as well . I do that myself and it is a wonderful idea for adding your own touch to the space you rent or whenever it is needed. Opens up great possibilities. Love what you did here and my ideas are tried and true and easily removed and can be applied as an alternative to wall stickers. Your work is always so interesting and your channel should grow larger each day because of all your amazing ideas as well as you and your team of charming individuals.
James has a beautiful spirit, he just makes me smile and feel happy when he’s on screen. (I apologize if those are the wrong pronouns, I will happily edit at request!)
Very nicely done! I agree with others regarding the dining chair vs office chair. There is one other thing Alexandra, it would be safer to put a non-skid pad under the scatter rugs that you use in your make overs. It's a small expense compared to home accident.
This is probably the most well done makeovers of yours! Very well executed, and actually had practical solutions. Everything goes well with everything. Small changes that make such a big impact! (Quick tip: can use a small wide dresser as an ottoman at the foot of the bed for extra storage and as a space divider!)
Nice change to a tiny space. I especially like the desk area. I think I would have gone for some sort of minimal screen to separate bed from living space. Not bulky open shelving, but just some sort of definite divider.
What I like most about you changing your mind about stuff is that we actually get to see how the options look in the space. It makes us the nonAGers visualize stuff you have in your mind. No paint no holes is very much relatable for many renters. This is such an inspiration 🤩
No painting? No hanging pictures? No changing light fixtures? It doesn't make any sense... It's a "rental". These become people's homes, who pay an absurd amount of rent. It's effortless to plaster a few holes. I'm sick of Toronto's domineering, nit-picking Karens... All I can say is their a bunch of *lazy* , *greedy* *SOBs* .
Good work. This makeover to me seems more do- able as when u rent u cant really make holes or paint the walls. It turned out so beautiful, the bed looks so cozy.
Get well soon Chico and James is such a natural ...he should be in more videos.
Love from India
Agreed
Agreed!
Also...did anyone else notice that it doesn't look like there's enough space on the desk for the monitor, an opened laptop, and keyboard?
A standing space perhaps for the p.c?
Standing desks are great for fit people for short amounts of time.
Standing still for long periods of time is bad for your feet, knees, circulation, and your back.
I have had to stand, at times, when back pain made it difficult to sit down, although I couldn't do it all day. Obviously, I have a back issue, so these ideas aren't for me. But, even when you're fit, you need to consider maintaining your joint and circulation health.
the result was so adorable
not a drastic change but same time a huge diference
Can we just talk about how fantastic James is?! Like, the room is cute or whatever but dang. James slays. All day.
Yeah James came out of his nook!! Hope Xico has a speedy recovery 🙏 and as always LOVE your work!!!

Get well quickly, Xico!! ♥♥
I love the overall look of this place, and the way Alexandra added so much texture and color with fabric, art, plants, etc. Well done !
I think this is the best small space makeover you’ve done. Amazing transformation, looks so much brighter and complete! 😍👏🏻
I'm literally just watching this for the good vibes. I mean, the makeover is great, but I really need those vibes.
This is such a cute makeover! I loved seeing the more relaxed interactions and how you've left in the details of when/where you changed your mind. Great look into the process, and really brings up the energy of the video too.
James is SUCH a natural!! Can you plzzz take him shopping with you somewhere ( on camera) ? Thrift shops, Ikea, anywhere! 😍
Thank you AG, it's so inspiring. I did what u taught here. It's so amazing to see my apt changes. ❤❤❤❤
Brilliant! Keep up the great work! xx
Wait what was the budget for this?
You did such a great job decorating this condo. 👍
L Tilley, you are right....Xico IS adorable! ;) ♥
“I have a lot of anxiety about being out in the world.” You and me both, fam.
Such a cute makeover. So glad you changed the bed cover, love the bright colour of the new one. The playful tone of this video was fun. Great to see the interactions between the Family AG members.
I'm so glad you swapped out the bedspread and moved the side table. Good calls.
i recently moved into my studio apartment in gent, belgium. watched a ton of your videos before this move, took down notes on how to turn a small space into yours, and i must say that i am VERY proud of the outcome.
this is so beautiful. thank you so much for sharing insightful tips on every makeover you do. thank you!
Ooh did you post your space anywhere?
@@cfloster heyy! hmm... i haven't yet but maybe i would soon on my channel.
SOOO great to know about the adhesives that safely replace drilling and painting!
TERRIFIC!!!
Ok James is so amazing!!! James has to do this more often!!! ❤ the talent!!!!! 😍😍 love
I love this makeover! The way you separated the space with plants is really cool.
Yes, that's one of the big takeaways for me on this makeover. Also, although I prefer real plants and natural materials, the plastic plants would weigh less than real plants in soil. That's a practical consideration when you can't put holes in the walls or ceiling.
The colors you added to the bed made a huge difference, great job
I would have been interested in seeing the kitchen and eating area in this studio. You did a great job as usual.
I was wondering if it had one.
Ultra-tiny black kitchen is viewable at 27:49 and 26:59, to the right of the wall of windows. No dedicated eating area, but she could use the desk--or the couch. Even with a dining table, that's where I always end up eating anyway. ; - )
Alexandra...you NAILED it! This studio is beautiful...full of color and warmth...as your client said..."I'm home".
It didn’t hold the weight of my plant and it ripped a chunk of ceiling off when I removed it.
i wouldn't recommend it. if you're hanging plants, go the extra mile and get those screws in. you don't want the hook coming off and ripping off your ceiling, and/or your pot dropping and shattering on the floor or hitting someone in the head. it's more of a hazard than command hooks on walls just by virtue of being above you.
Hi lovely from the UK. The space looks stunning. Looks so much bigger. And so cosy. Well done you and your friends💚
I love James !!!! 😅 more James please
It has been a few years since first being introduced to AG. She has blossomed. Learned alot. Though she is young/new to this profession snd needs to learn more. Thanks for offering ideas to her.
I'm immensely jealous of how giant and well stocked your homesense is! we only have one in my city and it's pretty small and always picked over 🙃
I know!! I don't think I've ever seen such good stuff at any home sense I've been to
OMG 😳 James is freaking ADORABLE ☺️ I love him already!
7:00 Love for James! He has such a vibrant personality
I love your insight for small spaces. It just works AND they are all STUNNING. Kudos to you
I love to see renter friendly shows like this.
I really love how this one turned out! That second bedspread is so good, it really warms up the space. And the swoop lamp! Love it
One of my all-time LIKES ALOT, ALOT! Really liked all the designs, so fun and thoughtful. 🎉🎉🎉😊
Ooh I love that rug, how it ties the pink and green together!
I was like no no no how HOW??? will she pull this one off and then BOOM! Team AG for the win. Feel better Xico
Alex! This is my favorite small space makeover you’ve ever done. I love your delineation of space/zones by color! Such a good job finding VERY STRICT renter friendly solutions.
Congratulations on the new bedspread! Color better and length better! Great work!
Alexandra, I love your channel and I totally come here for you and your style but, James seems to be a fabulous human.
I love this bc it’s so realistic - I put stuff down and look at it and change my mind and move it like 800 times.
Get well Xico!
omg i so wish i knew about you when i lived in my 230 sq ft studio this is amazing
Hi Alexandra and all the wonderful Team AG members 😊 - Always lovely to see the team feature in the videos, you have a great vibe as a team.
Wishing Chico a speedy, healthy and full recovery 🙏🏽
Great transformation Alexandra, you have a great approach to design and it is always interesting to see your creative process. You really incorporate the needs of your clients well and you make design accessible to everyone.
Great work!
Stay safe and well 💖👑
There should be a love button because... LOVE. Turned out amazing!
I really didn't know what to think until the end and I'm glad I watched this video entirely!!!!! It looked like it was really difficult to design and even though I would have done many things diffrently it looks so great all together. Well done ♥
Oh em gee, that view. I haven't lived in Toronto since the 90s, but that is to die for.
This makeover was so good! Loved everything. It’s def a cozy home now that flows.
Bless your heart. You went all out for her. Amazing job.
Love that you guys are all back together in the office! It makes everything so much more fun because you can tell you all love each other a lot
Very nicely done! I agree with others regarding the dining chair vs office chair. There is one other thing Alexandra, it would be safer to put a non-skid pad under the scatter rugs that you use in your make overs. It's a small expense compared to home accident.
Woohoo! Back with the studio fix episodes!
you knocked it out of the park with this one, Alexandra!
This is probably the most well done makeovers of yours! Very well executed, and actually had practical solutions. Everything goes well with everything. Small changes that make such a big impact! (Quick tip: can use a small wide dresser as an ottoman at the foot of the bed for extra storage and as a space divider!)
THREE YEARS LATER YOU'RE NEARLY AT 800,000 subscribers!!! Lets go!!! One MILLION!!
Nice change to a tiny space. I especially like the desk area. I think I would have gone for some sort of minimal screen to separate bed from living space. Not bulky open shelving, but just some sort of definite divider.
I hope Chico feels better soon and heals completely prayers his way
I LOVE this series! It has made me rethink the possibilities with my own tiny space.
What I like most about you changing your mind about stuff is that we actually get to see how the options look in the space. It makes us the nonAGers visualize stuff you have in your mind. A very relatable makeover! XICOOOOO YOU BETTER GET TAKE THE VERY BEST CARE OF THAT MAGIC MAKER!!! WE NEEEEED YOUUUUU!
This makeover is absolutely gorgeous. I live in a studio apartment and have some of the furniture that was used. Awesome!!!!
