- * FIXED * iMovie Export Failing - Stalling, Error or Crashing at 75% - Resolved on iPad or iPhone
I ran across this when trying to export a long movie with many clips. When I went to export and save the movie in 1080p and it would stall at 75% and never finish. I found others explaining the fix here on RUclips but I didn’t think they showed the fix very well so I wanted to make my own video to hopefully help others.

I spent 6 hours watching my 14 minute video keep freezing over and over while trying to export. Found your video and detached audio on the ONE speed change video I had and tried again. It exported in about 2 minutes. You are a hero my friend!

This method didn't work for me, but I really appreciate your time in putting this video together. I think I have a newer version of iMovie, so perhaps that's why. I noticed that you got to select the file size whereas I didn't. I still suspected that it was due to a file size issue even though I have 112 GB of free space. I found the place (somewhere new) where you select the export file size and changed it from 4K to 1080P. That did the trick for me, hopefully my comment will help someone else. I was shocked when I saw that he was able to select 360p and that could be useful when you have lower grade footage as at that point having a larger size would be pointless and just be a waste of space!! It seems like they just keep taking features away from iMovie... I remember when you were also able to select full frame, but how you are just stuck with widescreen... As to why you can't also have it saved with the same ratio (Height and width) while still being able to decide how large you want your video file is beyond me, cause you should not have to deal with any black horizontal or vertical lines on live videos/etc if they have a ratio other than full (4 by 3) or the most commonly used widescreen type (16 by 9)...
I know this is many years old but i literally have spent a day trying to export my video and could find NOTHING on how to fix it, apple just pretty much said "sucks to suck", but you helped me out a lot so THANK YOU

I have an issue that happens fairly often regardless as to whether or not I do a lot of work on a video (With how much products from Apple costs, you would think that issues would be quite rare). I get timing of the clips and the sound to my liking on the iMovie program, but when I have saved my video creation all of a sudden the sound will be off at parts (The most common issue is the sound being loud to the point of not being properly audible outside of the iMovie program) and at times some of the sounds will be moved a bit so that the timing is noticeably off... All of this makes no sense to be whatsoever... Again, I make the video and everything about it is fine when testing it/playback when it is still in the iMovie program but when saved to my MacbookAir any number/s of the issues mentioned above can happen, so my video may be fine or not... I have tried removing and reinstalling iMovies but it does not solve anything... If you know of any possible workarounds, program extensions or any ways to predict when any of these might happen, it would be greatly appreciated :)@@SupercarRanch

OMG ... As already mentioned in other comments I spent 3 hours trying to figure out the issue, reading iMovie manual, deleting old events thinking it was the problem, then I did what you said and "DONE" ... my video was explored successfully ! Thanks a bunch for sharing it! 🤗🙏🏻

Bro you are a lifesaver!! I’ve been trying to load one video for the last 18 hours! The exporting bar has been at the same place for the past 10 hours. I went back and removed the audio where my videos are sped up it loaded it in five minutes. Thanks for the tip!

OMGGGG thanks!!! Had to sign in to my youtube account just to comment this!!! I've struggled with this for a week!! I can say that also on the 2020 version of Imovie there is a setting called something like "adjust tone for high speed clips" ... this one needs to be ticked in of you have increased speed in the video. Just FYI!

THANK YOU! I had a video less than 3 minutes that refused to work and looked exactly the same as your screen in which is stopped 3/4 through, but thanks to your strat I was finally able to export it. For a second, I was worried my iPad gave up because it was from 2015 and I already have trauma from what happened to my last iPad in which it just stopped functioning…

Unbelievable it works! Praise God for bringing me to your video, been trying to sort this for days. So my clips which were speeded up or slowed down, didn't even contain any audio, yet I still detached the NON EXISTING audio and it worked! Truly bizarre. Thanks a mill Supercar Ranch. Steven.

This worked Thankyou man! The only video I could find that’s simple and straightforward. Other channels were suggesting to remove the slow mo or the audio completely.

Apple and it’s stupid bugs
What I found out is the freeze option was causing conflict in my video.
Deleting freeze and reapplying fixed the error and I was able to render my project without any issues

I bought a new iPad the other day and done my movie on my iPad and low and behold they won’t export and I have a load of slow down/speed up and I had always detached the audio when doing on my phone but I didn’t detach on my iPad. Now I know. Thank you again.

Just wanted to mention that if you delete the audio you've detached, it seems to revert back onto the clip, so to be safe I didn’t delete the detached audio, just left it hovering, muted underneath!

No you just need to detach it. Then it should export fine.
when you detatch it nothing happens it just allows you to move it around but you can keep it in the same spot and it will be like nothing happened
Spent 3 hours with Apple Support and did EVERY troubleshooting suggestion they had and tried some of my own. ZIPPO! Zilch! Was soooo frustrated! You have given me a glimmer of hope! I’ve never encountered this problem until this project. I saw your solution and am going to try it now! If this doesn’t work, I’ll lose my mind!! Wish me luck! Thanks for posting. Fingers crossed 🤞!

Everyone is having good results but I don’t have any sped up things or anything like that. Just green screens and detached audio from videos. Can you help me?
Do you have any filters on any of the clips? Or videos or sounds overlapping? I’ve seen other things like that also cause a video to not export. If all of the clips are completely unmodified, then I’d recommend trying to duplicate the project front before iMovie home screen

Hello I have a different type of a problem when I try to save video it will go to the exporting screen I did not speed up or anything but when it starts iMovie just crashes same happened when I was using Phonto when I try to save image Phonto crashes like iMovie idk if it’s the internet but me ipad was kinda slow rest of the day and charging speed decreased too pls how to fix this

Only delete if you don’t need it. The key is detaching. I just said to delete if you don’t need the audio rather than muting it
