I purchased my truck (21 Sierra 1500 Duramax) on 10/31. The dealership I bought from is a GM dealership so they are required to fix a recall before delivering a truck. They chose to not tell me that they had to hold the truck until it was fixed... I received the truck 3 days ago, 12/17 after they finally got the recall done.
I got three 2021-2020 and 2024 gmc 3500-2500-3,0 and I have 3 recall letters and the local gmc dealer said they parts to fix these problem is not available yet, so I’m planning on calling a lawyer to see if the car lemon law applies to these situations, what’s your thoughts about this?
True… But - Then again if you look at the history of Torque and HP and tow rating curve as well as rising CAFE standards and ever elevating consumer demands for comfy plush ride…. Then there has actually been very little short history to meet all of those demands. Also Ford gets to claim the f platform outsells all others but when you add chevy and gmc it is actually even larger - there is a crazy crazy amount of volume of these they make. I am just super disappointed at the slow communication on GM’s part of official statements on the issue earlier on. They seem to only be acknowledging due to safety risk of lockup. Just a poor handling overall of their consumer.

Bought a 23 Silverado Duramax w/ 16k miles. Shifting issues started around 27k miles. Dealer said they couldn’t duplicate concern. At around 32k miles i was towing a trailer with it for the first time on the highway. All of a sudden the truck dropped to like 3rd gear, almost as if I hit a wall. Was so loud I thought it sent the gears out the transmission. Had it towed to dealer and they said it was a bad solenoid in the valve body. They cleared the codes and told me to drive it as is until the valve body came in. 4 years ago I was going to buy a new 2020 Chevy 2500hd diesel even though I wasn't crazy about the new body style. Then I discovered they changed the Trans to some Allison inspired 10 speed. Having been a Dlr service mgr for Chevy 25 years back in the old days I knew better. Found a 2019 with only 12M and bought it. It has a real Allison 6 spd o.d. trans. Added the Bank's h.p. stuff , put the genuine Allison deep pan on it , now holds 4 gal Castrol transcend fluid and fine.
Love my 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LML 6 speed Allison transmission. The only problem is the CP4 injection pump. Just hit a hundred thousand miles.I better change that soon, CP3 let's go...
Purchased 2024 gmc2500hdat4xaev Feb. I’ve put 22,000 miles, 10,000 of them off road on mountain fire roads and desert roads. Amazing truck. Traded in a 2019 denali that had experienced the hard down shift issue. My at4x is in the shop now (12/5/24)waiting on transmission control valve with no eta in sight. When it hits 30 days at shop I plan to start the gm lemon buy back process. Wish me luck
I just bought a 2021 3500. 61,000 miles. Had it about three months. Tow horses mostly. So far no problems. It is in the recall thou. Went to the dealer end of November, they said no fix yet. I said, nhtsa website is already talking about the software update. Then the guy said, oh ya that. Nothing we can do until you get the notice. You’ll get your recall notice just in time for Christmas. Sure enough. Just received the notice last Friday. I love the truck. My first diesel. Awesome stuff.
my 2020 Silverado is included in this recall, when I had it in the shop for other work the service advisor told me there was no known solution at the time. after it'd been known what there "fix" was for it
my 2020 Silverado is included in this recall, when I had it in the shop soon after this was published the service advisor told me there was no solution available.
Awesome Video! Thanks for bringing out the information about the 10 speed Allison. I was wondering when they came out what problems they would have to work out with it. This seems to be a pretty significant problem! I have a 2018 and love it and will definitely be doing that mod you showed in the second half of the video! I saw the short and was hoping you'd show more on a longer video! Thank You!! 👍🏻 👍🏻
im a tech at a gmc dealer.... dont buy one of these new pieces of crap. Fake Allison transmission is absolute garbage. They are electrical nightmares now too
The better way at looking at new vehicles is which ones the best well they’re running right or looks the best because all of them have issues when they are new now.
Heh I’m in danger. New work truck is 2024 Chevy 2500 6.6 gas with the Allison 10 speed. Not even 5k miles on it and I don’t like how whiney this trans is.
Id like to know how they get away with calling it an Allison when its not? This is what America has become. Communism with crony capitalism. Youre just wage slaves
I have a 2023 3500 HD Duramax/fake Allison. So far no issues with the trans, but I'm spooked with all the issues being reported about this 10spd online.
First I’ve heard of this, thanks for the video and information. I have a 2021 Silverado 3500. I have not received any recall notices from Chevrolet. I will be following this. Thanks again.
I spent 15 years working as a GM tech, specifically on diesels. Unfortunately this is GM’s typical train of thought, similar to the injection pump issues. Extremely glad I left cause it made me extremely frustrated on how much GM tied our hands on making proper repairs!
I have a 2023 gmc Denali 3500 sw. mine had valve body replaced about 44000 miles. Have 84000 miles now and transmission still has issues. It was down 3 weeks.
I have a 2022 Silverado duramax at around 38k miles I started experiencing hard shifiting, I have taken it in to 4 different dealerships around my area. The only issue they found was it needed a software update I am currently at 50k miles and the hard shifting just gets worse.
I wonder if they will now cover the new transmission I had put in my 3500 Dually since GM said it wasn’t covered under warranty? I locked up pulling my 5th wheel down from camping. Lucky I was only traveling 20mph on a dirt road.
Haven't received the recall as of today but did have the transmission do a brief lockup on a downshift while on the highway. It sounded like I hit something when this happened. I have the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 3.0 diesel engine and it has 27,000 miles on it now.
Going through it right now. Mine is a 2022 so thankfully it doesn’t have the software that detects an issue and puts you in limp mode aside from the possible wheel lock up. I have been driving mine and still am for the last 3 months waiting on the part with rough shifting. Took calling and complaining with GM customer service opening a case and I believe that greatly sped up the process along with some possible reimbursement for the long delay. Part recently came in getting installed soon
Got the recall letter in the mail for my 2020 LM2. The software update is a two-fold CYA for GM. Gets them into compliance with the NHTSA safety recall and also lets them know which trucks need valve bodies. I don't pay for Onstar, but it still collects data, and I have no doubt GM gets that data.
Yes I have a 2020 3500 just got the recall paperwork in the mail. I have not had any issues yet but I have a fifth wheel camper that I pull regularly. Pretty scary thing to find out.
I did get the recall notification. I brought my 2022 3500HD High Country into the dealer. The notice said software update. Service Tech told me they replaced the Control Module. Just not sure if I believe the service tech.
I just received my recall notice on my 2021 with only 15,000 miles on it. My problem with the software update is I have Kory Willis tcm tuning on my truck and don’t want dealer to wipe out his tune
Yes, I own one of these transmissions. I just received my notice in the mail asking me to get the software installed. I only have 8,000 miles on my 2020 Chevy 2500HD Duramax.
Had our tranny lock up a few times on our 2021 dura max. Left a five foot skid mark one time. Have a 24 now and already had a valve body replaced. And it’s giving me the same feel up in seventh gear that is just like the 21 which would lock up. Love my Chevy. Not happy with the transmission
I have 2022 gmc duramax, I have noticed some slow shifting into 6th gear early in the morning when the fluid is cool. I know I need to do the transmission service but been putting it off until I buy new pans for oil/ transmission. This is good information though!!!
I just bought a new 2025 2500HD duramax in October, it has 3000 miles on it and now I’m just finding out about this. I will just wait for the recall notice in the mail down the road because you know it’s going to happen. This was the most expensive truck that I have ever owned. SHIT SMH
Have a 2022 6 speed 6.6 gas. When drove home new from dealer. The wrench symbol came on.said service parking break. Truck now has 37tho. Service parking brake has come on while driving a couple times. Showed pic of same to dealer.found nothing. Their is a squeak in rear now and then.
This happened to me in my 2020.GMC 3500 just a couple.of days ago. I was doing about 50 when it happened and it was pretty shocking. This is after my valve body was replaced about a year ago because of hard shifting problems.
Just got rid of my 2021 2500 High Country with no regrets. Worst 2500 I've ever had. With only 35k on it I was experiencing violent shifts. One time while pulling trailer and entering a work zone it down shifted so hard I anticipated drive train flying out from under my truck. Very scary
I just got my truck out of dealership yesterday 12-20-24 . I had the software update and tailgate harness replaced. No one explained why the software up date was done . I keep an eye on the dash board .
I was thinking of upgrading from my 07 LMM to a newer truck, but after seeing all the issues, no thanks, I'll just spend a quarter to half the price of a new truck to make mine as reliable as possible.
My 2015 GMC 1500 did that with 35,000km on it. Luckily it happened right in fron of my dealership as I was driving by! There was no recall on them back then.
2022 Silverado 3500 Dually Diesel I have an appointment at the dealership this afternoon to get the "Software" update done. I will let you know how it goes! Truck has almost 60000 miles and have had no lock-up issues.
Just got my notice, dealer Monday morning. Last time my truck was at the dealer it sat for 3 months waiting for some smog/def fix. Love the truck but, seems they could do better for the cost of these things. I still use my 2006 for everyday use around town.
My 2020 1500 duramax had locked up three times on the highway pulling a light trailer. The truck had 70,000 miles on it. The dealer got it right in and repaired it, 40,000 miles later my transmission burnt out, out of warranty and a new transmission wasn’t available so I installed a low mileage used transmission in.
Wouldn't bumping the pressure to 220psi all the time cause more wear to the pump and more shock to all the hard parts as shifts happen at such a high pressure?
I had this problem on my 2018 gmc Sierra 1500 with the 8 speed transmission, it wasn’t the valve body, it was the output shaft speed sensor under the valve body
I have a 2023 Denali 2500 Duramax with 6800 miles on it with no problems yet hopefully I will no have any problems Thanks for your information The MSRP on this truck was $91.000
I have a 2022 Silverado 2500 Sport Edition Duramax. I had the software update done two weeks ago. GM gave me a special coverage warranty on the control valve body til December 9th 2036 or 150,009 miles
2021 HD 94000mi Oct 24 Rear lockup happened to me twice. The first time at 45mph, and it felt like my rear axel hit an invisible curb. It kicked the back end out about 30 degrees into the lane next to me. The 2nd time it locked up at 85mph on the highway (on the way to pick up a camper) The truck went completely sideways and corrected and recorrected. Dealer replaced the entire transmission.
Had it happen multiple times not knowing what it was as I was always hauling my gooseneck then randomly 2 weeks ago trans locked up for good now it’s at the dealership and nothing is being covered cuz it’s out of warranty hope this recall will cover it truck is a 2022 3500 LT duramax
Yes it happened to me about 5-6 months ago! Had a 2022 with around 12-14000 miles on it! Down shifted and went into limp home mode! Limped it into the nearest Chevy dealer and there it sat for almost 2 months. Finally i had a talk with the dealership manager and he hadn’t heard of this problem! Even though I didn’t buy the truck there he put me in a 2024 for no more money! Hopefully the problem has been rectified! Only time will tell. The service manger assured me that it had! Went by there not too long ago and the 2022 was still in the back of his dealership!
Maybe you can help. I seen a video where a guy found a site where he got new valves with O rings that fixed the problem but can’t find the company. I have heard that they replace the valve body with the same thing ( no fix ) watch your video’s all the time, have learned a lot. Thanks for your time
Wish there was a person that did videos for Gas engines like this. Great watching about diesels, but I have a gasser. Dad and I have had half ton gassers and have hauled many heavy loads.
Took my 2020 2500 L5P with 10 speed transmission looked at for the software update and the dealer told me my truck did not need the new software and they would notify me once a part was available from GM… I explained that I am a bit confused why my truck is included in a recall of this nature, yet does not need the initial software update… the services person simply said she knows as much as I do… can anyone tell me if there is anything else I should do? Call? Thanks!
I have a 2020 Denali 3500 dually, 6.6 duramax with the 10spd. I have had intermittent hard downshifts in the last three months, but didn't think too much about it, till I got my recall notice today, 20 Dec, 2024. I have about 86K miles. Now, I will pay more attention to any inconsistencies.
What can someone do if they are past warranty? My trans just took a crap right after they announced this, but gm wont help me with anything. Tried tellin me it wasnt the valve body. Said it was the stator sticking and the idler gear walking off, but also they had valve body on the diag write up as a part to replace but they recommend a whole new trans instead of parts.
First off this issue also affects the 2023 model years as well. I have a 2023 3500hd Dooley and the truck started having issues with the valve body at 40k miles. I did my own homework and found an aftermarket Valve body built by Nex Gen. paid the $4,500 and had the new part in 3 days. No issues since and I haul my heavy equipment everyday. I didn’t even waste my time with the warranty cause I’ve been down that nightmare path with GM before it does suck to have to spend more money to fix a brand new truck after spending $100,000 on the purchase. But I wasn’t willing to lose more money waiting on the dealer to drag there feet.
I have the 22 baby duramax. It’s not at 51k miles with no issues. I got a notification on the app and I have already contacted the dealer but they told me the fix is not yet available so they will contact me.
I have 21 gmc 3500 and have had the problem with rear wheels locking up went to dealer for warranty and they wouldn't do nothing and now that I have had the problem fix i took my recipes to them and now they don't want to cover the repairs
Very good video. I got a 19 model 2500 due to the 6 speed Allison trans. It's been tried and proven for a long time. 10 speed still New bugs not worked out yet. THANKS.
when GM came out with 10 speed Allison transmission I was curios what the milage they were and was told by a couple of owners that on the highway running empty they were getting 19-20 miles per gallon. I was also told that GM was actually making the transmission but the valve body was made by Allison.

Ya know after a 100 years of building vehicles, one would think they would have figured out how to do it by now.
Well that would be the case if we only used the same technology
I totally agree

It doesn’t seem to matter what make and model car or truck you have today there’s always a problem with something, thanks Josh 👍😁
I’m so blessed to
Have the 2011 2500hd wt that drives like new and has 322000 miles 🤙🏽 gotta love the old Allison transmissions man
I just bought a 2021 last week. I haven’t took it to the dealer yet but it is starting to shift hard down shifting from 3 to 1
I have the 2020 with 75k. No issues yet. She’s been reliable.
Ikr!! I got my notice for a software update including extending the warranty on the tranny of my ‘22 Escalade diesel..
Will see how that goes!
my 2020 Silverado is included in this recall, when I had it in the shop for other work the service advisor told me there was no known solution at the time. after it'd been known what there "fix" was for it
my 2020 Silverado is included in this recall, when I had it in the shop soon after this was published the service advisor told me there was no solution available.
Thank You!! 👍🏻 👍🏻
Thanks for the info. I have a 2020 3500. Only have about 40k on it and no problems so far. Guess I will wait for the recall notice.
im a tech at a gmc dealer.... dont buy one of these new pieces of crap. Fake Allison transmission is absolute garbage. They are electrical nightmares now too
Anything new is junk no matter brand
The better way at looking at new vehicles is which ones the best well they’re running right or looks the best because all of them have issues when they are new now.
FACTS, me too
Heh I’m in danger.
I have the 24 2500, aside from the bricks for seats its been a beast! The cameras has me spoiled pulling my 24 foot trailer.
Just got my recall notice for my 2021 L5P last week. I have 87k on my truck and no issues so far. Shifts smoothly all the time.
Yes, I own a 2021 GMC Denali with 70K miles, and so far, there are no issues. Love your channel great information.
Glad I have my '05 GMC Sierra 2500HD ext. cab long bed Duramax LLY with only 52,000 miles on it. Built like a tank. I'll keep her forever.
That happened to you driving down the road do you remember that lol. You showed how to rebuild a truck almost it. Great content
Makes me nervous having a 2020 Duramax … might be time to go back into an lbz 🤷♂️
I have a 2022 AT4 and received the first notice, I hope it holds out long enough to get it all worked out
My wife’s 2021 GMC 3500HD, Denali had this happen last week with a trailer on it. This was the first time it happened
Haven't received the recall as of today but did have the transmission do a brief lockup on a downshift while on the highway. It sounded like I hit something when this happened. I have the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 3.0 diesel engine and it has 27,000 miles on it now.
Thanks for sharing
GM should go back to their best years for Duramax and return to the older design and hopefully governments will stop choking diesel engines
all of these recalls are followed up by the statement: "we don't have the parts to do the recall, but in a few years we might".
Are the AT4 GMC models included?
I did get the recall notification. I brought my 2022 3500HD High Country into the dealer. The notice said software update. Service Tech told me they replaced the Control Module. Just not sure if I believe the service tech.
It’s tough to say considering these units are on back order but it’s possible
I just received my recall notice on my 2021 with only 15,000 miles on it. My problem with the software update is I have Kory Willis tcm tuning on my truck and don’t want dealer to wipe out his tune
Yes, I own one of these transmissions. I just received my notice in the mail asking me to get the software installed. I only have 8,000 miles on my 2020 Chevy 2500HD Duramax.
Might as well get it done ✅
Had our tranny lock up a few times on our 2021 dura max. Left a five foot skid mark one time. Have a 24 now and already had a valve body replaced. And it’s giving me the same feel up in seventh gear that is just like the 21 which would lock up. Love my Chevy. Not happy with the transmission
That’s terrible news thanks for sharing
I purchased a used 2021 GMC Sierra Denali 3.0 duramax on September 26th but didn't take delivery until October 9th. I'm really pissed. 🤬
LML
@troypow2398 What about an LML?
My 2015 GMC 1500 did that with 35,000km on it. Luckily it happened right in fron of my dealership as I was driving by! There was no recall on them back then.
Up in Canada. I own the 2020 6.6 duramax. Tow my 5th wheel and dump trailer. So far, no problems, no recall yet with 50,000 km on it.
Great info thanks for sharing
2021 HD 94000mi Oct 24
Rear lockup happened to me twice.
Everything is junk anymore! Expensive junk!
Man, sure glad I have a tried and true 02 LB7 with only 93K miles on it.
CEO at GM is SO SHMART,
WAY TO GO MARY 💯👍😎
Thanks for sharing this info and I’m glad that guy took care of you
Maybe you can help. I seen a video where a guy found a site where he got new valves with O rings that fixed the problem but can’t find the company. I have heard that they replace the valve body with the same thing ( no fix ) watch your video’s all the time, have learned a lot. Thanks for your time
Thank you!!!! I just sent this vid do my dad he has a l5p
Wish there was a person that did videos for Gas engines like this. Great watching about diesels, but I have a gasser. Dad and I have had half ton gassers and have hauled many heavy loads.
I have a 2021 GMC Sierra and just received a recall notice on Dec. 18th. Wish I would have known about this before I bought this truck in Oct. 2024.
If the transmission downshifts from 8th gear to a low enough gear to “lock up the rear tires”, it can’t be very good for the engine?
Yep good thing I have that old 2 speed power slide waiting in the shop!!!
I was in a accident a few days ago over this man for real 😳
