I hear your friend….. I’ve had my LB7 2002 for a very long time. I rolled 450,000 miles on the first engine. I was going to buy a 2019 but decided against it and just rebuilt my 02. Man, I’m glad I did. I had Wagler build my engine…. That thing is bulletproof. Always fires up never gives me a problem. I like the newer stuff, but when it comes to dependability, you can’t beat an LB7….

Bought a 23 Silverado Duramax w/ 16k miles. Shifting issues started around 27k miles. Dealer said they couldn’t duplicate concern. At around 32k miles i was towing a trailer with it for the first time on the highway. All of a sudden the truck dropped to like 3rd gear, almost as if I hit a wall. Was so loud I thought it sent the gears out the transmission. Had it towed to dealer and they said it was a bad solenoid in the valve body. They cleared the codes and told me to drive it as is until the valve body came in. A month and a half later I brought it back to get the new valve body put in, but they informed me I had 4 burnt clutches and would need a whole new transmission. Waited for another almost 2 months for my “new” reman transmission. Truck never felt the same after that
@@robqwertyuipp8750I waited nearly all my life until 40 years old to buy my first new full size truck. So over getting shafted and paying taxes. I’ll never buy another GM product.
Why can’t anyone build long lasting Trucks anymore, every brand has an era in the past that were simply bullet proof , u just do t get that anymore, you basically have to choose what truck you want based on what type of issues you want to deal with instead of the other way around
It's crazy and criminal how crappy they make stuff now. I'm going to go pick up a mint 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0 158k miles for 18k next week, should last me at least another 10-15 years.
The software update in advance of the valve body replacement makes sense as a preventative measure to reduce property damage and injury if the valve body isn’t readily available
I was thinking of upgrading from my 07 LMM to a newer truck, but after seeing all the issues, no thanks, I'll just spend a quarter to half the price of a new truck to make mine as reliable as possible.
Haven't received the recall as of today but did have the transmission do a brief lockup on a downshift while on the highway. It sounded like I hit something when this happened. I have the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 3.0 diesel engine and it has 27,000 miles on it now.
I continue to be very happy with my 2007 GMC 2500HD CCSB DURAMAX SLT - sitting at a paltry ~ 329,000 Miles. I prefer RELIABLE to BLING..!! Bought it Last year from a SNOW MEXICAN for 13000 Canadian Peso’s…put 7k into it, Titan Tank, FS2500 & a FASS…much more to come..!!😊
Pretty sure this is exactly what Paul at Fab Rats dealt with. He installed some kit that replaced some spool valves without o rings to some with, would be interesting if you addressed that option.
I just bought a 2021 3500. 61,000 miles. Had it about three months. Tow horses mostly. So far no problems. It is in the recall thou. Went to the dealer end of November, they said no fix yet. I said, nhtsa website is already talking about the software update. Then the guy said, oh ya that. Nothing we can do until you get the notice. You’ll get your recall notice just in time for Christmas. Sure enough. Just received the notice last Friday. I love the truck. My first diesel. Awesome stuff.
I’ve had my 22 gmc duramax at4 with the 10 psd now for about 6 months, replaced an 04 LLY. I did a lot of research about the valve bodies an knew of the issue before my purchase. Now that the recall is out I spoke to my GMC dealer about the recall and my truck must already have the updated software as it’s not covered according to the dealership WTF? It’s got a tick over 20k miles, I’m waiting to to see if GM will end up recalling/replacing the valve bodies altogether at some point, fingers crossed. Gen y transmissions has some good info and fixes, their project carbon kits seem legit, as Paul over at fab rats installed one and is pretty happy with it .
Very good video. I got a 19 model 2500 due to the 6 speed Allison trans. It's been tried and proven for a long time. 10 speed still New bugs not worked out yet. THANKS.
Going through it right now. Mine is a 2022 so thankfully it doesn’t have the software that detects an issue and puts you in limp mode aside from the possible wheel lock up. I have been driving mine and still am for the last 3 months waiting on the part with rough shifting. Took calling and complaining with GM customer service opening a case and I believe that greatly sped up the process along with some possible reimbursement for the long delay. Part recently came in getting installed soon
Awesome Video! Thanks for bringing out the information about the 10 speed Allison. I was wondering when they came out what problems they would have to work out with it. This seems to be a pretty significant problem! I have a 2018 and love it and will definitely be doing that mod you showed in the second half of the video! I saw the short and was hoping you'd show more on a longer video! Thank You!! 👍🏻 👍🏻
23 3500 denali 60k. I have had no problems , i voided my warranty with a few k on the truck. I disagree with you as the 2 front seats suck and are very uncomfortable.
My 2015 GMC 1500 did that with 35,000km on it. Luckily it happened right in fron of my dealership as I was driving by! There was no recall on them back then.
Love my 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LML 6 speed Allison transmission. The only problem is the CP4 injection pump. Just hit a hundred thousand miles.I better change that soon, CP3 let's go...
I spent 15 years working as a GM tech, specifically on diesels. Unfortunately this is GM’s typical train of thought, similar to the injection pump issues. Extremely glad I left cause it made me extremely frustrated on how much GM tied our hands on making proper repairs!
Got the recall letter in the mail for my 2020 LM2. The software update is a two-fold CYA for GM. Gets them into compliance with the NHTSA safety recall and also lets them know which trucks need valve bodies. I don't pay for Onstar, but it still collects data, and I have no doubt GM gets that data.
I have a 2022 Silverado 2500 Sport Edition Duramax. I had the software update done two weeks ago. GM gave me a special coverage warranty on the control valve body til December 9th 2036 or 150,009 miles
Yes it happened to me about 5-6 months ago! Had a 2022 with around 12-14000 miles on it! Down shifted and went into limp home mode! Limped it into the nearest Chevy dealer and there it sat for almost 2 months. Finally i had a talk with the dealership manager and he hadn’t heard of this problem! Even though I didn’t buy the truck there he put me in a 2024 for no more money! Hopefully the problem has been rectified! Only time will tell. The service manger assured me that it had! Went by there not too long ago and the 2022 was still in the back of his dealership!
The rearends aren't locking up , the trans is downshifting from tenth to fourth gears at speed causing the rears tires to lock up . There is no mechanical issue with the rear end , only the transmission , and only in the diesel powered trucks .
2022 Silverado 3500 Dually Diesel I have an appointment at the dealership this afternoon to get the "Software" update done. I will let you know how it goes! Truck has almost 60000 miles and have had no lock-up issues.
I have a 2023 Denali 2500 Duramax with 6800 miles on it with no problems yet hopefully I will no have any problems Thanks for your information The MSRP on this truck was $91.000
Maybe you can help. I seen a video where a guy found a site where he got new valves with O rings that fixed the problem but can’t find the company. I have heard that they replace the valve body with the same thing ( no fix ) watch your video’s all the time, have learned a lot. Thanks for your time
my 2020 Silverado is included in this recall, when I had it in the shop for other work the service advisor told me there was no known solution at the time. after it'd been known what there "fix" was for it
This happened to me on my ‘24-2500 gmc with 25k miles, while towing and coming to a stop light so from 8th gear down. (I have a banks monitor so I know what gear it’s in). The lockup was very fast and you wouldn’t even know it really locked up. It was more like it skipped a gear. A big jolt. Anyway, locked into 5th gear until I stopped and restarted the truck. Then ran fine. Now, this happened a month ago and I’m now I have no truck and a rental from the dealer waiting on the valve body replacement. My point is, no need to make a huge deal about the wheel lockup. It happens so fast, you won’t realize that what is was BUT you will be startled more by the message you get and the fact you are now stuck in 5th gear. THEN, you will loose your truck for months while they find a replacement valve body. This absolutely sucks in every way and amplified by the fact they don’t have parts to fix it.
Yes, I own one of these transmissions. I just received my notice in the mail asking me to get the software installed. I only have 8,000 miles on my 2020 Chevy 2500HD Duramax.
My 2022 3500 at 175k just gave me the engine power is reduced! What sucks about a year or so ago the dealership asked me if I had changed fluid at 75kish, not having it done before, I went ahead and had them do it. My transmission has always shifted funny after the fluid change. I asked them to change filter as well and they said they don’t do that anymore just hook a machine and push old fluid out with the new. Hope they don’t try to tell me that my truck won’t be covered due to mileage. We shall see!
2021 3/4 ton 110k miles on it. Trans locked up on me in October. Was just out of warranty. Waited 7 weeks for a OEM trans. Finally got it back last week after $6500 bucks all out of pocket. Same exact symptoms as GM’s recall is describing. Wish GM would reimburse me (very unlikely) The core charge on a 10 speed is $6000! It’s like they want to insure they get the evidence back!
Here’s another issue I have a brand new 2025 Chevy 2500 LTZ with a 6.6 gas engine I literally drove home from dealership parked in my garage found transmission fluid on my floor looked underneath and found a leak between transmission and T case ! Discovered a TSB dating back to 2020 /2024 describing exactly what I was seeing! Truck only has 200 miles on it when I drove back to dealership and has been there since just after thanksgiving! Dealership service is terrible and this obviously is an ongoing issue GM doesn’t seem to be interested in solving! Absolutely unacceptable to pay over $70K for a vehicle and have these issues and no dealership support! Very disappointed and I’ve owned several GM trucks and cars in my life and never have been this disappointed in there product and service and responsibility to fix these issues! Thanks for sharing 👍
my 2020 Silverado is included in this recall, when I had it in the shop soon after this was published the service advisor told me there was no solution available.
Watched this today and got home to a recall notice from GM. Very disappointed. Got my 6.6 duramax 1/27/21 and has 10,500 miles on it My wife bought a Yukon the same day and broke down in our neighbor hood and was fuel pump module at 21,000 miles. Couldn’t put the Yukon in neutral to push it out of the road.
I bought a gas truck for the first time. 23’ GMC Sierra 2500 6.6 gas. It has a 6L90 transmission in it. Sometimes when it downshifts from 2nd to 1st it clunks and shakes truck. I guess we’ll see how long it lasts. Otherwise the engine pulls great for a gasser.
The 10 speed wasn't offered behind the 6.6 gas until '24 so maybe the had the problem figured out by then. I hope so, I'm thinking about getting a new one this year
Wish there was a person that did videos for Gas engines like this. Great watching about diesels, but I have a gasser. Dad and I have had half ton gassers and have hauled many heavy loads.
My Father in law bought a 2024 Chevy 3500 and it’s been back to dealer 4 times. Not trans related but DPF sensor. Each time they just took a sensor out of a brand new truck on the lot lol. Idk all this with in 3-4 thousand miles to..
So I'm not affected by this recall but I had this issue happen in a 6-speed Allison after the same case was rebuilt four times and the last time it wasn't inspected properly and after about 20,000 MI the rear tires locked up going down the highway luckily I was empty and there was no accident but it can happen to any vehicle it's astonishing though that there's a recall for a new Factory truck doing this
Yeah, the rear end locking up at 75 miles an hour is not fun….. That happened to me in 2007….. Seal went bad and my rear differential and was leaking…. Finally broke….. Thank God it was late and nobody was on the road…. Jesus was looking out for me. Yeah, that really sucks. Seems like Dodge Ford Chevy all go through Periods it’s like this. But I noticed the more technology they cram into these trucks the worse it gets. “ Hey, I just developed a solenoid that does this thing that’s pretty cool”…..” Has it been tested?” “Nope”….”OK, jamin there and see what happens”. 🙄…
What can someone do if they are past warranty? My trans just took a crap right after they announced this, but gm wont help me with anything. Tried tellin me it wasnt the valve body. Said it was the stator sticking and the idler gear walking off, but also they had valve body on the diag write up as a part to replace but they recommend a whole new trans instead of parts.
Right, the question is what if anything will make the gas version allision from failing. I was just watching another channel where he does RV transport and he claims there have been owners of not only 2024 but even a 2025 model Duramax trucks that have had the transmission/valve body failure issue. I guess what i am driving at is if GM is not recognizing the 2023/2024/2025 model transmissons in the Duramax as having the very same problem, where does that leave the gas version ?.
Last month i traded my lmm for a 2020 gmc and was driving home got 10 miles down the road and it happened to me on i40 highway and still waiting on my truck

Ya know after a 100 years of building vehicles, one would think they would have figured out how to do it by now.
Well that would be the case if we only used the same technology
I totally agree
They have figured out how to keep getting people’s money. Not longevity
True…
But - Then again if you look at the history of Torque and HP and tow rating curve as well as rising CAFE standards and ever elevating consumer demands for comfy plush ride…. Then there has actually been very little short history to meet all of those demands.

I am just super disappointed at the slow communication on GM’s part of official statements on the issue earlier on. They seem to only be acknowledging due to safety risk of lockup. Just a poor handling overall of their consumer.

Thanks for your time
my 2020 Silverado is included in this recall, when I had it in the shop for other work the service advisor told me there was no known solution at the time. after it'd been known what there "fix" was for it
That happened to you driving down the road do you remember that lol. You showed how to rebuild a truck almost it. Great content
Up in Canada. I own the 2020 6.6 duramax. Tow my 5th wheel and dump trailer. So far, no problems, no recall yet with 50,000 km on it.
2021 duramax. Locked up at 70 mph. Outcome was a new transmission and radiator. $12000 fix. 117000 miles when she went south.
Are the AT4 GMC models included?
Not to mention the recall will make 5th gear the highest gear, so what 50 mph at 3k RPM
Yes, I own one of these transmissions. I just received my notice in the mail asking me to get the software installed. I only have 8,000 miles on my 2020 Chevy 2500HD Duramax.
Might as well get it done ✅
My 2011 lml with 385k miles and counting is not going anywhere!
Was just looking at a 2025 ultimate today.
Decided to keep my 2017 LTZ.
Just don’t want to chance it.
Wish GM would reimburse me (very unlikely)
The core charge on a 10 speed is $6000!
Glad I got rid of my’22 and went back to an lbz
Watched this today and got home to a recall notice from GM. Very disappointed. Got my 6.6 duramax 1/27/21 and has 10,500 miles on it My wife bought a Yukon the same day and broke down in our neighbor hood and was fuel pump module at 21,000 miles. Couldn’t put the Yukon in neutral to push it out of the road.
Yikes! Crazy timing
Guess I'll be keeping my "16" 2500hd!
The 10 speed wasn't offered behind the 6.6 gas until '24 so maybe the had the problem figured out by then. I hope so, I'm thinking about getting a new one this year
2021 2500HD DURAMAX. I just received my notice of the recall a couple days ago.
Wish there was a person that did videos for Gas engines like this. Great watching about diesels, but I have a gasser. Dad and I have had half ton gassers and have hauled many heavy loads.
Would it void the warranty to put a Suncoast valve body in one? It would probably perform better than the updated GM part, probably cheaper to.
Keep that great gm feeling Yeah right
My Father in law bought a 2024 Chevy 3500 and it’s been back to dealer 4 times. Not trans related but DPF sensor. Each time they just took a sensor out of a brand new truck on the lot lol. Idk all this with in 3-4 thousand miles to..
Everything is junk anymore! Expensive junk!
191000 on 2020 3500 and still going strong, just make sure and do your fluid and filter changes
Just received the notification in the mail today. They dont have the parts to do the recall yet.
375,000 miles on my 2004.5 LLY.SLT keeping it as long as I can..
After 25 years as a GM owner of multiple vehicles, I am done with GM !
Gm owns Allison so it doesn't take much to get them to call it a Allison branded transmission
GM does not own Allison, they sold it off 10 years or so ago.
And I'm just here with a 500k mile LLY with the original motor and trans lol
So I'm not affected by this recall but I had this issue happen in a 6-speed Allison after the same case was rebuilt four times and the last time it wasn't inspected properly and after about 20,000 MI the rear tires locked up going down the highway luckily I was empty and there was no accident but it can happen to any vehicle it's astonishing though that there's a recall for a new Factory truck doing this
MTS diesel out of Omaha Nebraska has a valve body upgrade kit for 895.00… rather do that than the software update.
I had 36,000 miles on my 22 suburban when I had to replace the valve body and it took almost 2 1/2 months
What are the running board LED strips at the 6:12 mark. I like how they are tied to the turn signal but I have not found them yet.
Those are boost auto luma steps
I just received my recall for my 2021 Denali duramax today!
There are after market rear ends but very expensive that's adaptive for a Truck and will work an hook up to the computer system
With TCM tunning do you still need it installed??
No
@TruckMaster Thank you soo much God Bless you and your family , your channel is very informative and educational🙌🙏
@@vivianguerrerojr8727thanks 🙏
You were not going to pull the trigger on a new D max 😂😂😂😂
2020 to 2023 6.6 gas has a 6 speed trans and not the 10 speed allison
Right, the question is what if anything will make the gas version allision from failing. I was just watching another channel where he does RV transport and he claims there have been owners of not only 2024 but even a 2025 model Duramax trucks that have had the transmission/valve body failure issue. I guess what i am driving at is if GM is not recognizing the 2023/2024/2025 model transmissons in the Duramax as having the very same problem, where does that leave the gas version ?.
@@charlesb4267 not sure but all I know is my 2020 gaspot doesn't have to worry about it lol
@@outerfroggy1 So true, I can only guess that its not as expensive of a transmission to rebuild or to buy a rebuilt trans.
Glad i have an lbz and i think the last generation of the great amazing trucks
Well I mean these rear ends are brand new technology. Oh wait, they aren't. How the hell can GM forget how to make rear ends now?
Whole new generation of cats building them I’d say all the older folks aren’t in the business anymore
It's not the rear end that has an issue. It's the transmission downshifting to a gear that is too low for the vehicle speed.
Is the switch to a 3.42 rear differential playing a role also?
I have a 2021 3500 diesel. I am getting random harsh down shifts. 52k miles, should be under warranty.
Remember everyone its not a true Allison, gm and ford designed the transmission, then gm used Allison for the branding,
Last month i traded my lmm for a 2020 gmc and was driving home got 10 miles down the road and it happened to me on i40 highway and still waiting on my truck
Good to know! That’s terrible news
@TruckMaster the truck has 109,000 miles on it
