The drive between the two parks is amazing. As you drive to Kings Lodge, roll the window down and just listen to the water as it rolls by. There is nothing more awesome than that sound. I grew up on the beaches of So. Calif but this sound is Harmony for the soul.
I had split that difference, nearly 50 years ago, by climbing, summiting, Sequoia Park's Alta Peak--nearly 11.4K'--lots of Sequoia trees just a few miles West--and from Alta Eastwards, nothing, but above timberline rock, ridges and massifs.
Camped at Dorst Creek campground for six nights, had the time of my life here. I love Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP. Did horse back riding, lots of hiking, a lantern exploration of Crystal Cave and the husband and I fell in love with Hume Lake. We highly recommend going here.
There is a small forestry campground between the 2 parks called Stoney Creek. If you like quiet its less crouded. In the event you go to this campground hike downstream for great granite rock cliffs. Its only a mile or 2 downstream. Nobody goes down there.
I rode a motorcycle from Houston through Texas, Colorado, Utah and Nevada via I-70 and Hwy 50. Road the seven rides of South Lake Tahoe, Sequoia, King’s Canyon, Yosemite, Yosemite Valley and onto Vegas. From there, we shipped our bikes home. The riding and scenery was epic.
I know this is an old post, but I am hoping to retreat from Yosemite, also...unfortunately, there more people then ever (mainly foreigners), and it's made it almost impossible to making camping reservations. My son and I went to Sequoia (first time) and had to leave early, because of the fire....it was horrible and kept us from exploring Kings. We had to cut our trip short, unfortunately. Hoping the fire didn't destroy too much of Kings. It looks very comparable to Yosemite.
Alice Cries it is still in magnificent shape. General Grant and Sherman are just fine. They are considering doubling the ca national park fees to $70 per vehicle and $30 on foot. They want to know what the public thinks. :/
I just visited & luved it! My only disagreement with this video is the mention of 'ferns' (I didn't see a single one) & Mt. Whitney - which is beyond any view within the parks.
Man I miss it there. One thing to do, is if u go to the visitors center at Lodgepole, when you're in the parking lot, look up around you at the massive ridges on both sides, covered in trees. So beautiful, breathtaking, and very peaceful.

5:50 - It should be noted to those that haven't been to the parks before, that want to see Crystal Cave. 1.) The road is a narrow and treacherous road, but passable and driveable. But one must be careful. 2.) And this is of the MOST importance. Once you've traveled the aforementioned road, you will reach the parking lot. You then must travel down several sets of stairs and a winding path to get to the entrance to the cave. Making it down is not the hard part. But what goes down, MUST go back up. The climb up the stairs is not for the faint of heart or shortness of breath. Its a steep climb, but fortunately, there are a number of benches to rest on. Just be sure to eat a good breakfast before you make the trek, and bring plenty of water. Flashlights for the cave are helpful too.
Dude Man are you joking? No offense.. But theirs not much spectacular on the east. The best on the east is probably acadia. True, the smokies are more visited, but theyre more beauty than spectacular. Acadia is spectacular. Also, the everglades is extremely underrated. So many animals, in very dense amounts. Its amazing.
Why anybody would give this video a thumbs down is beyond me,these parks plus Yosemite are amazing, enjoyed every minute of my trip!
Glad you enjoyed the video, Chris! Keep exploring.
Poetic video!

That's on our list of to-dos!
I even found a spot where I would love to leave my Ashes. It's just past the falls along the road.

Nostalgia at its finest
My two favorite national parks. West side has great forests of massive trees, east side has huge alpine mountains to climb.

Dorst Creek is amazing. I love how secluded it is. I nickname it "Bear Country" for all the 4 legged visitors that come there.
I'll be visiting Sequoia for the first time in September! Can't wait.

Thanks for sharing, Rick & Linda!

Thank you Kings Canyon, for allowing me to not feel guilty about skipping Yosemite for the last 10 years.

Great video! Really enjoyed it! I was just there and posted a few videos.

It should also be noted, that if you can make the climb up and down Crystal Cave, you should be able to do Moro Rock. The cave is more daunting.
looks cool...good place to shroom
I love nature
i know they are in the same administrative unit, but are they two separate parks or one single park ?
also great video
That's right! They share administration, but they are two separate parks.
thanks for clarifying!
@@thealphawolf6535 No problem :)
What's nice, is these parks are near Yosemite! Also Sequoia is where "The Great Outdoors" was filmed!
That is incorrect. The movie was filmed at Bass Lake, which is not within Sequoia National Park.
Perhaps the best sequoia grove is just inside of Kings Canyon park.
Scott Drennan grant grove is nice. Im right down the st. 50 miles or so. ;)
can't wait
Aw inspiring

How’s the weather in November up there?
Cold and raining
I wish the could establish more of these on the eastern side of the U.S. 😕
There's nothing on the east coast that is spectacular. That's why California and Hawaii are some of the most over-populated places in the USA!

They want to double the California national park fees!!! 70 a car and 30 walking!
Every individual should own electic cars, solar panels and recycle which should be passed as a law to stop global warming and save the glaciers.
Global warming doesnt exist. Its a scam like the rest of everything else. earth has natural warming and cooling periods
