      @@HandleMyBallsRUclips The Finnish community in Minnesota has great music and dancing. Whole towns were populated by Finns who worked in the Iron mines up in Northern Minnesota. We call it the Iron Range.
      Minnesota had large ethnic populations from Norway too...whole towns in Norway would empty out and meet back up in places like Spring Grove, Minnesota.
      We still have a good, active folk music and dance community - Covid has mad it hard to dance - But I am helping to put on some "Dancing Alone Together" zooms for our community!

      @Sam G49 Yes, Veri on hungarian is Vér, very similar!
      Also the finnish word menna/mennä is menni/menne.
      We can say a lot of similar words still are there, the closest one for the hungarian language is still the hantik language, since we are from the southern Ural, you guys are from the northern. But nice to see, there are still a lot of mementos from our once-shared-history!

      Anythingnew, are you sure it has tones? I´ve never heard that Finnish was a tonal language, whereas Norwegian (Bokmål) and Swedish are, of course the latter two are Germanic, thus Indo-European, while Finnish is Ugro-Finnic.

    • @joalexsg9741
      @joalexsg9741 6 лет назад +4

      Well, I think you may have a misguided notion of the concept of tones in linguistic terms. Tones are not shown on paper (except in specialized phonetic transcription) and belong to the spoken language, changing the meaning of the words, according to their ascendint, descending, etc quality and Finnish does not have them, as far as I know (and I´m really glad it doesn´t, smile!). Maybe you meant their intonation of the sentences.

      Tonal in the sense that each village has own tones so you know where you belong and where they come from. But not tones in morphological sense, only semantic and pragmatic levels. And sadly, when you move to big city to study or for work, the tone is the first thing you´lose.

    Please be happy
    Because sorrow comes
    Let him go:

    Four mice jump

    • @merski9214
      @merski9214 6 лет назад +25

      Crank Cuffin i think instead of 'because' sorrow comes it would better fit if it was "when sorrow comes, let him go" :) and the part about being happy I understood rather to be "let (us/them/me/you/him) be happy" very hard to translate outside of finnish because of the passive form

      It can mean several things.
      "Lyö" means "to strike", "Lyöpi" is indeed an eastern dialect, however "lyö" has a wider use.
      "Lyö vaatteet päälle" - Put your clothes on
      "Pane vaatteet päälle" - Put your clothes on
      Lyö in this instance means "put your clothes on", but the context means that you should do so quicker or the like.
      "Kissi lyöpi trummun päälle" could mean "The cat strikes the top of the drum", or "The cat jumps on top of the drum", or "The cat turns the drum on".

    Lampaan Polska. Satutko tietämään tähän niitä pitempiä sanoja? Olivat muistaakseni hiukan "rekilaulumaiset" ainut pätkä minkä niistä muistan oli "mitähän ne maksaa, kaksi rotanp******, kallihia ovat. ovat kallihia." Sitä kanssa mietin, että milloin tämä La Folia melodia on tähän lauluun liitetty ja onko sillä joskus ollut joku toinen melodia? Hieno esitys joka tapauksessa. Kiitos tästä videosta.

      Kuten hienosti tunnistit, tämä on ns. La Folia -melodia, jota on käytetty useissa länsimaisissa lauluissa. Tämä on yksi tunnetuimmista suomalaisista sanoituksista, johon viitataan muissa sanoituksissa, että lauletaan tällä melodialla. Muista sanoituksista tulee mieleeni ainakin Kekri-laulu "Ei aina kekriä kestä, Ei aina tupia pestä,...". Tuohon kekri-lauluun on myös oma sävel. Eli variaatioissa löytyy!

    Yksi, kaksi, kolme, neljä
    Anna iloinen olla
    Koska suru tulee
    Anna hänen mennä
    Paarmat ne laulaa
    Neljä hiirtä hyppelee
    Kissi lyöpi trummun päälle
    Koko maailma pauhaa
