Wow, thank you! My faucet hasn't worked in over a year because I couldn't afford a plumber. I had no idea it was this easy. Fixed it all by myself with the help of your video. This 62 year old single woman is pretty proud of herself! Thanks again!!!☺
I tried that but couldn't pull out the sleeve.
hey me too. I am 60 and learning how to fix things myself.
Wow what a fantastic video. Not a single “what’s up guys this is_____”. Quick video with really good close up quality. Amazing. 10/5 stars
Now that’s what I call a No BS.. No Nonsense simple instructional video. Surprisingly there are so many videos out there with a 10 minute run time to Explain this exact task! This beautiful video 😢told me in less than two minutes exactly what I needed to know. Thank you so much for your assistance my friend. You provide an absolute community service by taking the time out of your day to help out non-plumber people & make it possible for us to resolve our issues.. I really am grateful for a lot of you guys out there on RUclips. Such a valuable service. But only because of people like yourself… I can install a 300 square-foot ceramic tile floor over the weekend but I can’t replace a stupid plumbing valve.. ha ha thx Steve
Can i do it without shutting off the water?
@@joelrettinghouse6492Same thing I would like to know.
@@xo3106 Hahaha definitely a lot of unanswered questions. After manifest destiny, 100 years of straighten this out with the truth. Peace
A few notes to add. 1. If youre replacing the cartridge and buy a new one you will get the special tool. Its a white plastic fitting that fits into the cartridge keyway and when twisted with an adjustable wrench it helps to break the cartridge free enough that you can pull it out. If you get the free replacement from Home Depot you wont get that special tool. 2. If you buy a very viscose silicone grease from Dow Corning you can remove the cartridge and regrease the seals and O-rings. It restores the cartridge to good as new condition. 3. If when you replace the cartridge your hot and cold are reversed you remove the handle and rotate the cartridge stem 180° and theyre restored to the correct orientation. No need to remove the cartridge.
First step is to turn off the water at the main. This video helped immensely. After removing the sleeve, the core and clip was found corroded. Had to use a brass (not steel) brush and used some CLR (calcium, lime rust remover) WD-40 could also work.. I also had to use a jewelers screwdriver just to get the clip started and then used the needle nose pliers to fully remove. Of course the cartridge/ core was corroded and was not able to remove with the pliers. I had to go to Home depot and pick up the Core puller for Moen made by Danco (around $16). That worked extremely well. I took the cartridge to HD and matched it up with the replacement. While your there pick up a small tube of water proof grease (same aisle) and apply the grease liberally all over the new cartridge and install. I turned the water supply on and now the hot was the right and the cold to the left. I took off the clip and rotated the cartridge 180 degrees installed clip. Now everything works as designed. Time to have a few beers.
Thank you James for even more information. Mine was corroded also.
What model did you end up buyding?
Might want to turn the water off first. Also if the cartridge is stuck after pulling the clip, if you don't have the tool, use that leatherman or needle nose pliers against the cartridge body (not the stem) to rotate the cartridge. Once the cartridge can rotate, thread the handle mounting screw (with out handle) into the cartridge and use pliers or the claw of a hammer on the screw to tug the cartridge out of the valve body.
Guwaugasquaw thanks i was like "specialized tool"? i think any real man that aint no p-ssy can pull that sh-t out smh
Your comment is what everyone is looking for not anything on the video
Thanks buddy
Nice
bruhhhhhh... that worked lmao
First you need to turn the damn water off people!
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GONNA COMMENT...torrential flood over here!
Wouldn't the water just come out into the tub?
@@sixtylegion3612 it would come out with force and make it impossible to work with. Imagine putting a sprayer attachment while the water was gushing out.
Damn, imagine losing that clip down the drain
I did it!! The Cartridge was a Moen 1225B. I needed to CLR the old cartridge to get it out. Moen certifies their cartridges for life. Home Hardware will simply hand you a new one.
THANK YOU! So happy that I can do this today before our 40 guests arrive tomorrow!
This is the exact video I needed!! My valve just started leaking TODAY. I just bought this old house and the honey do it yourself list is growing!! thanks!!!
Thank you for this video. Our shower repair was exactly as you showed and saved us time and money.
People like you are life savers. Thank you so much.
This was a great video. I had the old one out and the new one in in under 20 minutes. Good advice was to take the old cartridge with you to get a new one. Saved a lot of money. Thank you very much.
Can you please let me know the model number of the part you used? I have exactly the same thing as shown in the video. And also what tools did you use. Can you please kindly share this information?
Straight forward and to the point with excellent visual reference. Thanks.
Thank you for this! Had my push-pull sink handle come unscrewed, and this was exactly the kind of help I needed to figure out the little details.
Terry, thx. I didn't realize how easy this would be. I did have to buy the Moen puller tool but your video was a great help. You and the guy at Home Depot that clued me into the tool. No more leaky faucet in my tub.
This video literally just saved my life (and lots of dollars)! Was about to call a plumber and found this video and I have the exact same model, weehee! The cartridge took a solid pull with big pliers but nothing extreme. The part is standard and I found it at a store nearby for $30 and now I know how to fix this kind of faucets in two minutes! Thank you!
Can you please let me know what model number did you use? There are so many at Home Depot.
I want to hear more about how it literally saved your life. That must be an interesting story.
Is it a Moen chateau? 1222 cartridge?
chill out man
This is amazingly helpful. What a great service, to make these vids for us. Thanks!
Thx Terry. The index card was really hard to remove. I was afraid of breaking something, but after watching this I was convinced and more assured if how to do it.
Thanks very much for uploading this Terry. I feel better about doing it myself.
Thank you a ton! Finally switched mine out, and it's so nice to have a working-like-new shower control again.
Did you switch out the cartridge? Do they sell in Home Depot or did you need to use amazon?
You made it look so easy. I did exactly as you said and everything came apart as you showed, without too much difficulty. Thank you! Steve
But does a new push pull faucet come with what he took out, or do I buy that separately? What is it that you're mainly replacing to stop dripping?
Thank you. Replace one in my rental property today. It stopped the slow leak from shower head the tenants complained about.
Perhaps this is supposed to be common sense, but adding something at the beginning about shutting your water off first would be helpful to those of us not home repair inclined. We had a geyser incident.
Thanks. I work at a resort and had this issue. Because of your video I didn't have to ask my boss how to fix the issue. I will look for your videos anytime I have a problem like this arise.
Bro is a life saver
This was very helpful, thank you!
Your video helped me repair my valve. Thank You!!!
This was exactly what I needed. Thanks for the tutorial!
Single Mom here and these kinds of video’s really help!! Subscribed!! Quick question: The problem with mine is it’s hard to pull it and push it back. Any tips. Thank you
Thank you you just saved me dealing w my landlord 👍
Super helpful video. Thanks for posting!
Thank you this helped a lot I just recently moved to a new apartment and accidentally pulled the knob to hard and it completely came off. I was able to follow your video step by step and fix this myself without calling maintenance (:
THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH I FIXED IT. RUclips WE LOVE U!
Thank you so much for this video. The screw holding my old pull handle broke off at the head when I was trying to remove it to clean underneath. And when I tried to remove the rest--disaster! I was frantic until I found your video. I had no idea that the cartridge was a whole unit. I got the Moen 1200 and my sweet, patient superhero husband replaced it in less than an hour with your help! THANK YOU!
Thank goodness! I couldn't find anything on sutherland, lowes or hd. Great help!
Huge help, I keep forgetting the pin. As others have stated good idea to have shut water off 1st or you could soaked.
Just happened to us 😅
Very straight forward, thanks for the knowledge 👌
So thankful for your video. Thank you!
excellent video, terry. i am ready to resolve an annoying issue now.
This video helped me get the job done, Thank You!
Clear & concise! Great video.
well done! heading to home depot know👍 i put it off long enough🤣
Awesome! Sweet and to the point! Thank you!
If it just sticks, is there a way to lube it without replacing?
There’s a special grease to lubricate plumbing faucets. Home Depot
Thank you. I was struggling for awhile figuring how to change it.
What is the specialized tool that can get it out?? That's what I need to get.
in case your wondering that is a 1225b insert the other one out there is 1222b
One comment above said it is a 1200. Can someone confirm what model? Mine is identical to the one in the video and I need to buy it so if someone can confirm I would be most grateful.
Thanks, this video really helped me:)
Great vid instructions! Have a question, I've the same set up but for some weird reason, the part where the screw is bolted it's a lot longer, is that normal? Also, what's the name of the valve your replaced in this vid?
I sprayed CLR into to opening with the insert still in. I let it rest 10 minutes & retried it. No more leaking.
Thank you so much for sharing! 🌼
Love your video! It saved me a lot of time and money. :-)
Great video. Thanks for such concise info.
Thanks mine fell off after 10 years I was hoping nothing extremely hard to fix happened but now I know it was just the screw fell off
Thank you! Great video
I have exactly the same thing as shown in the video. When I turn the faucet on with no shower, I can turn it off easily with no problem. But when I turn the faucet on with the shower, then the faucet would not turn off completely. I am not sure what the problem is. Will changing the cartridge solve the issue?
Thanks dad!
This is great!! But Turning knob slowly pushes back in to close the water what could be the reason for that?
t, you might add, turn the water off, cover the drain, lube the new part before replacing
What is the "specialized tool" called to take the cartridge out? Mine won't budge. Thanks Terry!
I have exactly the same one. what cartridge do you buy for that one.
Did he ever answer???? I have the same one what brand is it?
I think is a Moen .
@@marcmondragone8649 should be a 1225, but better double check before you buy one.
Any suggestion for a stripped screw & how to remove it?
Hey Terry, a new one that turns right and left without pushing like the one to be replaced needs an adaptor or it will adapt easily?
Hi Richrico.... I'm wondering same thing. Did you find an answer? thank you!
Thank you so much!:)
if that metal "sleeve" piece at 0:29 is missing, would that cause leaking from behind the tile?
From time to time You Tube self help videos do not survive collision with the actual situation on the ground.
I could take a shower but the pull push faucet would not push in all the way without some gyrations, ie switch between hot-cold, the bath and the shower, and eventually I could push it in to shut off the water. Straight up cartridge replacement, no?
Index button went off, as well as the handle screw, easy peasy lemon squeezy.
I reached to point in attempting to remove the sleeve and it was NOT pulling out,
No it was not budging. No sliding away from the assembly.
I removed the faceplate and it looked like the sleeve was part of the whole plumbing assembly so I called in the PROs.
He got the sleeve off, but in examining the retaining pin, it had corroded to the point it was part of the whole valve assembly.
So yeah, it was entirely fortunate the sleeve stayed put for me else I would've forced out that pin, that in the plumbers estimation(which is why he did not remove it either), would have wrecked the assembly, and having faucet shutoff problems would have been the least of my worries.
To remedy the situation, 995.00 to replace the valve assembly etc, no tilework...(if it was just a cartridge replacement, 125.00)
So I’m just here to give an experience. My handle was too close to the tap/wall and didn’t want to tighten without turning on the water. I fixed it by putting rubber inside the interior of the faucet where the screw goes. It put pressure on the screw and allowed me to fully turn off and on the faucet where before when I pulled it out the handle it became loose and wouldn’t turn off the water. It was technically an honest diy mistake that could happen to someone else. Hope it helps someone out.
Won’t come out
What is the specialized tool??? I need that or a way around that!
What do I do if the screw is stripped? Im on well water and the faucet is probably 15-20 years old. Help!
Thanks Terry! Where can I purchase a replacement trim kit for my old Price Pfister push-pull shower faucet. It works well but I'd like to update the trim kit from gold to satin nickel. Thanks again!
Can I find the cartridge anywhere like home depot or something?
Your knob is sloppy as hell because it’s missing the stainless oval shaped washer. Also, before you remove old cartridge look for a small step on the very end of the cartridge near the flats thats on the shaft. The little step identifies proper orientation of the cartridge. If you don’t do it right hot and cold will be reversed. The instructions with new cartridge explain all this. I don’t know a single plumber or youtube video plumber that knows this.
One of these cracked on me yesterday and I had to run to Home Depot to replace it! The pull out mechanism doesn’t work, and I’d wager it never has! I’m no plumber, just a tenant, and our plumbers don’t work weekends!
I put mine back together but can't get it to pull out to turn on and off. Has to be a certain way!! Ugh
In my case, the newly installed cartridge worked for a week. Now, the handle is stuck on the cold setting, and I heard it clicking into place. I can still turn the water on and off as a usual. Thoughts?
Is it possible to switch to a spin faucet from a push pull? I’ve always had troubles with push pull faucet in kids bathroom. The spin one in my other bathroom is better and easier.
Is there a trick to getting a very stuck cartridge out? It's a stanadyne brand (whatever that is), it's probably close to 35 years old and isn't budging. Now that we've tried, the dripping that was the issue is now worse of an issue. If I can't get it out, I can't take it anywhere to match it up with hopefully a new one that will fit. Thank you.
Hi, how to put the click back i have hard time trying
Do all have the sleeve? My faucet is 25 years old if not older and it doesn't look like the sleeve is removable?
Is that valve equal percentage or linear?
So should I shut off the water to the faucet before attempting a repair?
Always bc if u don't. Hahaa!
Thank You !
What can I do if the cartage is really old and the cartage broke while removing. What can I do?
Is it normal if it has a play to it as you turn left and right? Works fine just came a bit loose and I try tighten and it doesn’t.
You are awesome!
My cartridge has 3 or 4 o rings, is this the replacement
What cartridge/valve is needed to be bought to replace the one shown in your video?
Can I get a link for the specialized tool to get the cartridge or whatever the brass thing is called out please?
Can you just lubricate/oil this oil cartridge and put it back in? I have the lavatory sink push pull tap. It's really hard to pull it out and push in and out when washing hands. New cartridge is the only way?
Your hand was blocking the view of putting the clip/lock nut back on, so there is a possibility that people may put it on wrong. Otherwise this is an excellent video. Thanks..
Thanks, it helped a lot
Good Job!
Hi. I hope someone sees this and can help. When I pulled my knob out to turn water on, it is not turning. Feels disengaged and not grabbing😮😮 Any ideas? It worked fine this morning and it's only me here. Thank you so much for any help
What if the (new-ish) cartridge is REALLY difficult to pull in and out?
If my old faucet is a push pull. Can I put a turn faucet on it. Just wondering
do u know the partnumber to this cartiridge
Is it possible to replace this push pull to a twist one
Thank you
Thanks dad
