I just watched season three in one weekend. This is one of the most underrated shows on Netflix. 'Orange is the New Black' is getting much more views. What a shame. This is not only based on real life situations but the writing and acting is second to none.
Seth and heather did a fantastic job. This is one of the best shows ever on TV. I am a huge fan of this show. I think I've seen the entire series 5 or 6 times.
peter actually it’s pretty spot on in general except Tallmadge wasn’t that close with Washington it was Hamilton who would have been in that role. Simcoe wasn’t as bad as portrayed but still terrorized residents of LI. It seems like they took that character and made him a mash with another soldier named Tarleton. He was a dragoon and was well known for massacring soldiers who were surrendering and injured in so far as “Tarletons quarter “ came to mean no quarter would be given. He “captured “ Charles Lee when he was with his mistress even though Lee wanted to be in charge and while “captured” was out partying with the British officers . He also terrorized civilians, burned homes, etc Then he went back to Britain and became a politician. Wonderful really.
Great interview. :) I love this time in history, it's so tragic and intriguing. The characters are all intense, even the ones that I dislike. I love the characters of Anna and Ben. :-) Looking forward to Season 2 because I am kind of obsessed. We need more historical dramas on TV!
Absolutely love the history and the series!!! I live on Long Island, there is a street in Northport named after Tallmadge. There are at least two markers in the area marking the spot where battles took place, one being the battle of Fort Salonga. In my neighborhood there is a small cemetery maintained by the town of islip which has a soldier buried there who served under Washington. I believe his name is Ruland, the town of islip places a flag at his grave for memorial day. The spy trail is what is rt 25A. Woodhull and Strong and several others are buried in Setauket on the grounds of a church cemetery. Thank you patriots for your service and sacrifice
It's a shame some people feel the need to childish/school play ground name calling when others are just attempting to engage in a normal adult discussion over facts of history. I love this show it's a really enjoyable show with a great mixing of history. In the discussion over New York - European discovery of New York was led by the French in 1524 and the first land claim came in 1609 by the Dutch. As part of New Netherland, the colony was important in the fur trade and eventually became an agricultural resource thanks to the patroon system. In 1626 the Dutch bought the island of Manhattan from Native Americans. In 1664, England renamed the colony New York, after the Duke of York (later James II & VII.) New York City gained prominence in the 18th century as a major trading port in the Thirteen Colonies. New York played a pivotal role during the American Revolution and subsequent war. The Stamp Act Congress in 1765 brought together representatives from across the Thirteen Colonies to form a unified response to British policies. The Sons of Liberty were active in New York City to challenge British authority. After a major loss at the Battle of Long Island, the Continental Army suffered a series of additional defeats that forced a retreat from the New York City area, leaving the strategic port and harbor to the British army and navy as their North American base of operations for the rest of the war. The Battle of Saratoga was the turning point of the war in favor of the Americans, convincing France to formally ally with them. New York's constitution was adopted in 1777, and strongly influenced the United States Constitution. New York City was the national capital at various times between 1785 and 1790, where the Bill of Rights was drafted. Albany became the permanent state capital in 1797. In 1787, New York became the eleventh state to ratify the United States Constitution. Another great read - www.nps.gov/nr/travel/kingston/colonization.htm
Late reply; but I'm pretty sure The Sons of Liberty was mainly active in Boston Massachusetts. I'm also sure that John Adams and Benjamin Franklin (Mainly Benjamin) were the main reason why the French joined the war; making the meeting more important than he Battle of Saratoga. Not saying that the battle wasn't important, but John Adams and Benjamin Franklin were the key successors of persuading the French to collaberate with the United States. Can't wait for the 2nd season to begin! Good to show that in this series they make an subtle effort to show that the American Revolution and the Vietnam War are very similar. Both tried to reach "the hearts and minds" of the local population. "Those that forget history are doomed to repeat it" is very apparent. 200 years ago the British were the greatest military force on earth and let a bunch of colonist win from attrition not military power. 200 years later we get into Vietnam and are defeated not on the battlefield but by bad press on a war was deemed unwinable. The only difference we still have our freedom but Vietnam does not.
Love this show. But I have to admit there are some people on this thread that are just acting ridiculous. Heather Lind talked about the British "occupying" New York. No, technically, NY was British, but she's a 21st century American actress (I believe) making a statement. Lighten up. The show isn't a documentary, but it is a rather interesting, DRAMATIC look at some of the people of America's history.
This is my favorite show.! I just finished watching it. Yes I’m late . But I can’t believe how much “Anna strong” is my TWIN.! Omg 😱 she could be my momma we’ll probably not I’m almost 24 lmao 😂 but sister. 🤷🏻♀️ such a role model. & I just imagine I’m married to Ben lmaoooo he’s a dream with his long hair.! . 😍🤤 I’m watching the show for the 4th time now .
***** New York became British after they bought it from the Dutch. New York or New Amsterdam during that time was occupied by the Dutch first. So I suggest do your studies correctly.
And you think I don't already know this how? Where did I say that it wasn't Dutch to begin with? But as I said before, it was not occupied by Britain. New York was bought from the Dutch, therefore legally British... if it was occupied then the Dutch would fight to get it back.
The Dutch also colonized Guyana and still have forts in the Essequibo river that stands today. We also have a town in Berbice called New Amsterdam.Unfortunately, the British came and conquered the Dutch. We became independent from the British in 1966 when they were no longer able to provide for the colonies.
I loved this show but it was very historically inaccurate more so than the American Civil War’s 2003 film Gods and Generals. Didn’t like that Woodhull cheated on Mary with Anna on the show, and didn’t like it also because Anna in real life was 10 years older than Abraham Woodhull and second he didn’t marry Mary until 1781 and his dad was a patriot. For anyone who’s seen this show and also Gods and Generals i just want you to know that while I liked this show and I know I heard reviews over the years that said Gods and Generals sucked and that it was Neo Confederate at least the character of Stonewall Jackson whether you like him or not did not cheat on his wife and that movie was way more accurate than TURN yet it somehow failed at the box office while this show got 4 seasons. I know these are American stories but in my opinion the love drama between Abraham Anna and Mary was unnecessary for the on screen depiction of the Revolutionary War spy ring. By the way also if anyone assumes or asks no I am not pro Confederate or lost cause but at least Gods and Generals got the timeline of events right and everything the characters did and said in the book and real life were true in the movie. This show wasn’t even close any historical accuracy except with George Washington John Andre and Benedict Arnold

John D I know this shit pisses me off. like this show is better than walking dead
People don’t have good taste any more, they prefer the coarse, obviously written shows. Wish there were more TURN type programs.
i watched season 3 in one night! finished it at 5am.
This Seth guy will be the next Captain America, after Chris Evans is done playing the character
Seth and heather did a fantastic job. This is one of the best shows ever on TV. I am a huge fan of this show. I think I've seen the entire series 5 or 6 times.
I totally agree. I ABSOLUTLEY LOVED IT. THE STORY. THE BAD-ASS ACTING. THE CHARISMA OF THE CHARACTERS. JUST LOVED LOVED LOVED IT.
Excellent show! So glad someone is finally doing a show about such a great time in our history and one that shows the real truth about the tyranny.
magnoliasouth well no it doesn't show the truth, in that respect its rubbish. Its full of inaccurate nonsense but it was enjoyable as entertainment

Brilliant series, brilliant actors, thank you Seth for your outstanding performance.
This was one of the most UNDERRATED shows of the 2010’s.

You're a wealth of historical information.
Great info. Love history, love reading about the Revolutionary period, love this show.

When she says "occupied" she is probably referring to it being occupied by British troops.

Christopher Cohn Why would it be better if the Dutch owned you instead of the British?
Heather Lind accusing an old man in a wheelchair of groping her. Tsk tsk.
Oh and New York wasn't British. In fact, it was founded by Amsterdam. Jiminy Christmas! Only an Englishman would spit such nonsense.
I enjoyed the series but full of Hollywood inaccuracies, very little truth in it.
Explain
