Ikr but im starting my own little universe of characters in one universe instead of like my other characters that are from different worlds but in the same place and in the universe (the new one) its one world one place tones of characters
with fitting a mold i disagree. a huge thing in character design is shape. if the only important thing about it is the details and color, you also wouldnt be able to tell them apart in their silhouette then it isnt a good character design. using big defining shapes in the character design makes it a good and recognizable character design you can tell mickey mouse apart from just their silhouette because of his big ears and shoes. you can tell all the pokemon apart from their silhouettes (whoooos that pokemon?) also the whole shape language thing with circles making a nice bubbly characters squares makes a stable reliable character etc still an incredibly good and helpfull video! thank you, i will definitley use this tips in the future :) you def earned a sub from me-

Keeping bad drawings is amazing, cause months or years later you can look at them and see just how much you have improved by then. I just wish i kept more drawings from when i was really young, only have like 4-5 left and all except for one were copied or even completely traced, apparently i threw away everything original i have made :c

Super proud that I learned how to draw from you, XabioArts! I binge watched all your vids, a couple of months ago and now, I can draw portraits! When I got my first paycheck ever, the firdt thing I bought is a little sketchpad and a couple of pencils.
Thank you so much for this enlightening and entertaining video! One thing that has helped me a TON with consistency (and consequently, my drawing speed as well) is to immediately draw the same exact character in a very slightly different pose, then I'll back off from it for around an hour, and when I come back I'll be able to see what I did wrong. Also, always reference the most accurate drawing if you're doing multiple poses, don't keep referencing the latest and latest or you'll notice a gradual change. I noticed this in a 50 expressions meme, I was 5 expressions in and my scale started to get smaller and smaller, so I started over and only referenced the very first panel each time instead of the one I did last.

When you were talking about how you made this so that it’d be easier for us others, that really hit me in the feels and I can’t lie, it sorta feels like I’m cheating and stealing that effort away from you. A good exercise to draw your character the same every time/be recognizable is: >Like Andrew said, simple shapes. Make three cycles for head, breast and hips and use it as a base. >Hair are important to be more recognizable, try to leave them simple so you can copy them. >once you ve settled on a design draw your character in different outfits, and poses >draw them in different art styles, ask someone to draw them like your siblings or cousins or whoever, but not copy, let them see your char for 5 mins and then recreate them from memory. The Toddler Ball Method is actually what I needed to hear all these years. For somebody who took graphic design course I never kept a sketchbook, mainly because I'm too scared. Afraid of everything, of making uglies, of being not proud to show them to others, of the probability that I'll soon realize I don't have what it takes. Makes sense why I dropped out after ~ years. I compared myself to others too much, when I should have been acknowledging that it's not a race against others but a race against my past self.
This has me feeling so inspired. I've been a little pessimistic about my art recently, and the toddler ball method and looking at the Pinterest things you searched has me hyped to start drawing again

One of the proudest moment I've felt on my own art is when I had this big inspiration to create a group of friends, I immediately asigned them their own basic shapes and developed their looks from there. My favorite is this short neon-goth girl who has horizontal oblong for head, bright pink spiky (= messy) hair that ends in a lazy pontail, lime green bandana and big round glasses, wearing white shirt under this black popular one piece pant-suit and simple sneakers. Anyone who wants to reimagine my OC, feel free to do so. I still have an IG acc but don't have the app now but I'd love to find reasons to go back. (@cheesecakelasagna)
