  • Sam and Dave - You Left The Water Running (1969)
    When I first heard this track I thought damn, this drummer sounds like Bonzo! This is most likely Roger Hawkins on drums, since it was recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL and it really sounds like Hawkins. I suspect Bonzo must have heard his playing and may have been influenced by him at this time, since he was such a fan of Motown Stax, and Atlantic Soul recordings.
    Check out the original track...the bass drum work, groove and fills are very Bonham-esque.

    I can imagine Bonham playing along to this in the 60s.....developing his style.

      John was apparently a big fan of chugging 4/4 tunes like this one and thought this style of drumming was very important to master, I say this because I recently watched an interview with Jason where he stated that his dad would always put on right place wrong time by Dr. John on the jukebox they had at their house and tell Jason to play along with it; and when Jason would bug his dad. No, I don't want to play this, teach me some of the stuff that you do in Led Zeppelin, John insisted no, You need to master this first.

    I didn’t even know about this song, as a music lover with 40 years of experience.
    Thank you, George.
    Here you are doing four main things in one take:
    1) remind us that there was once such a cool song;
    2) about those who played this piece in their time (let us remember, there were many of them, but today everyone has forgotten);
    3) give your version of how the Great Rhythm Master John Bonham would have play this song;
    4) you actually support his (Bonzo's) life in our world.
    This is unrealistic, but I, as a sober mathematician and expert on 0+1 and 1+2 and 3+5, I give you my deepest respect for what you do in your video performances. In terms of demonstrating the creativity of Rhythm Master John Bonham today, I think there are no other equals in the world like you.
    My deepest regards.
    You are a time machine and the method of resurrecting a person in music in this case.
    God bless you.🙌

    Just realized they also made "Hold On, I'm Comin' .. The bands from around here like "The Boogie Kings" play a lot of swamp pop, like this... If the guys can still walk, no kidding. The group originally founded 1956 in Eunice, Louisiana and might still play gigs. The album : "Walking the Dog" apparently has a lot of Sam and Daves music!

    It must be such a joy to be able to sit down and play the greats to perfection. Like to see you do some AL Jackson Jr. sometime. My personal favorite soul drummer of the 60's and 70's. Your the best George, I'm sorry but in my humble opinion better than all of em. Um except Mr. Buddy Rich 😊

    I think its time to retire Bonzoleum and Bonhamolgy from my subscribed and donations lists., the ride was incredible and were once great channels , but now they both dont even do Bonham stuff and are in remote boring rooms playing other shiuff. Like most things, its bait and switch for the worse. Farewell!

      You ever hear of the saying you can think it but don't say it ? Just because you can say something doesn't mean you should.
