I felt this way too. I bought it (on sale), played the first few missions and I just couldn't bring myself to play it more. The maps felt very small and cramped, and the art was just blah. This though? This looks pretty good. Some of the models look a little worse than the others, but hopefully they'll put some more detail into it as it gets further along.
I am excited to see this, I felt that Fell Seal was actually too much of an homage to FFT / Tactics Ogre and it stifled some of the potential (for example the game was heavily dominated by story characters and events much like FFT / TO, but I didn't find the story itself that compelling). Seeing the same devs take on a similar but more procedurally generated game with more freedom to experiment with new ideas will be very interesting. I've also been wanting to see a game in the Battle Brothers style but with a more fantastical setting, which is exactly what this looks like. Most games inspired by BB are very gritty and "realistic", copying the aesthetic of the original. And yeah, the art style in FS was weird enough that it did actively make the game less fun to play for me, the art on show in this trailer is just massively better in every way
16:32 AoO immediately makes me thing "Attacks of Opportunity", a common term in tabletop gaming. Could be the threat range for opportunity attacks or the number of such attacks available for the unit each turn.
The visuals got a massive improvement while still looking like Fell Seal. I'm sure we're going to have a lot of little details in their animations to make the characters more alive on the screen, like the looking around in some idle animations in battle.
There's still a fairly huge space for BB-inspired games. There's a couple of tries, like Wartales or Iron Oath, but I don't think they reached the depths of the original. BB is actually a very carefully crafted game, we'll see if they pull off something interesting.
Art Style looks much more immediately digestible. The resources look fine as long as we don't get diablo rng gear. There's clearly tile effects, but I strongly doubt they'll pull out something that can compete with Convallaria/Rad Codex. Buildings sticking to flat square perspective seems like a tactical choice that makes the art a lot easier to do. Attacks of Opportunity and Zone of Control. This is seeming quite a bit more DnD/Neverwinter nights, huh. The skill system looks alright, can't help but prefer The Last Spell at face value.
@@CoffeePotato I'm only mentioning TLS because they had a strong and unique take on the stats/perks system. This one is much more standard with far fewer customization options. To be even close to TLS, your equipment will need to have a huge impact on what active skills you can use, and I currently find that unlikely with that UI.
@@benedict6962 ...and I'm saying given their track record, that's pretty unlikely of a situation. FS couldn't stop itself adding weird mechanics to everything. We don't even know what half the stuff on the UI even does yet, or even how skills affect things.
@@rickallen8767 It's more striking, though I still love the customization FS had going on. Not many games let me go full Saint Row with my team of wandering God Cops showing up to arrest a zombie bug man with their lead man being a guy in a banana hammock, knives, and a giant pumpkin on his head.
I was very confused because I thought they were making a different game, then realized the game I was thinking of is from the Monster Sanctuary devs. So yay, two fun games to look forward to.
Definitely gonna keep an eye on this, Fell Seal and Battle Brothers are fun but this has a better aesthetic than both of em at a glance lol Will miss the lack of height in the maps but there are fun aspects to hex games placement too. Not sure why they did away with em, games like Wild Arms XF handled hexes and height just fine i'd say
My only problem with Fell Seal was the plot. It was the first time I found myself skipping all cut scenes because how generic it was. I will gladly give them another chance however.
@@Tactical_Turtwig I get where you're coming from, though for it's role as just giving you a reason to go places, it actually had a lot of fun little twists. Like teleportation not being murder, basically God cancer, and most places being corrupt.
@CoffeePotato now I wish I had caught some those lol. I free admit it was not terrible or cringe, just so meh I couldn't engage with a story--which was a first for me--but it all could be growing pains =3 I hope they knock it out of the park with this one.

For me it's more like a 2D wartales. Which is quite nice. The only thing I fear is about the story. About classes, I read that there will be 8 classes with each having 2 paths. Didn't see anything about sub classes. There's more info in the game description.
@@CoffeePotato oh but it was said that each merc will have random personal skills (might be passive) and could aquire new ones. I think those one could be like having a subclass. I think those are the icons AT the bottom left on the character sheet.
Little harsh. Did you ever play and enjoy Battle Brothers? This game seems to be apeing it the same way Fell Seal was 'inspired' by FFT. I enjoyed both games or all three if you include Fell Seal: AM into the mix.
