So a tablet that you can buy today is also a faro arm. Wow! After thinking about what you use this for.... I guess you can scan 1100 triple or something and see how it might fit in there without breaking your back. Make a model of the full ski and get it make in billet. It will have every imperfection your ski already has. You seem like a smart guy. I bet you have some interesting ideas of what you actually do with this.
Thank you for the compliment! I think this scanner in the iPad is pretty cool, but I notice the accuracy is not good for small parts. It’s fun for scanning cars and rooms. And big stuff like that.
the equivalent from faro is actually the freestyle 2, though accuracy is no comparison the faro products are far higher density lidar sensors
Yes, the iPad is no match for an industrial 3D scanner. But it’s pretty fun!
You can get a very fine spray chalk, if you coat whatever you are scanning with that, it will be far more accurate. Shiny and reflective surfaces are really a big problem for LiDar scanning

Thanks for the video, maybe you used it to scan people, I was thinking of buying an iPad Pro instead of a scanner for the price but what you get in the end with the help of the applications (meshing) can be useful to scan arms of people to customize prosthetics? I would really appreciate your answer.
Hi Diego, sorry I missed your comment until now. For designing and building prosthetics I wouldn’t recommend the 2020 iPad Pro or the iPhone 12 Pro. Maybe they can work, but in my experience they are not accurate enough yet. If you find someone with an iPhone 12 Pro you can easily give it a try without spending any money!
Did you used any app or it is just ipads cameras?
This is awesome, I've done some 3d from Photos but I had issues with Reflective and transparent surfaces, I guess Lidar helps the AI to understand more about depth and not get issues with reflective surfaces. May you try to do a 3d from a small object like a watch that has a lot of reflective and transparent surfaces?

I've got one doubt:
Why don't you do the full model? does it not allow you to do it all in one time? or just you prefer to not have a heavy file?
I find good that it makes automatically maps therefore should be awesome to have the all mesh.
Sorry a lot of questions but from someone like me that started 20 years ago with 3d studio max, XSI and Maya on a pentium 600 this looks really like the "movie back to future".

Hi Max! Thanks for the compliment! The iPad is a 2020 iPad Pro, but you can also use iPhone 12 Pro or 13 pro. These work ok for big objects but very poor performance on small objects like a watch. Also glass surfaces like the windows of a car, it doesn’t work well. I have scanned an entire car in one scan, but the scan is pretty rough. Eventually the file size becomes too big and the app will stop recording data. Also watch my video on 3D printed mountain bike fender, I use 2D photos to 3D model a mountain bike fender. Pretty cool technique that I like teaching people.
@@RSKI thank you I've seen some where else on youtube an app that connects lidar technology with video photogrammetry to make possibily the best of the 2 world in only one scan.
I am wondering if is is possible to scan an object multiple time maybe also with multiple apps an then use all the 3d scanned objecta with maps and merge them in only one scene. That is a trick i use to do 15 years ago with 2d i took with low res cam 20 photos of the same thing from the same p.o.v. and focal and then merge them with photoshop the result was an image with wqy more than 24bits theorically if the software could manage it.
Any experience with importing these surfaces into CAD software for accurate referencing? Say for example you wanted to build a trailer for your Jetski.
Yes, I think it would work for that. I exported a 3D scan of my Tacoma as an STL the other day. Took about 30 seconds to scan the front half. I was thinking a person could build a bumper for a truck this way. The STL imports directly into SolidWorks and it’s easy enough to work with. It definitely scans larger objects like a truck much better than small things like a coffee cup or similar.
What are you looking to do with the data? I have done a fair amount of CAD work. Work for Autodesk now. As a long time SW user, give fusion 360 a go as well. Mesh mixer tools are in it as well.
That’s awesome! I used Fusion for a few months when I lived in London and it was pretty cool. Hard to adjust to it in assemblies since I’m coming from solidworks. Idk what I wanted to do with the 3D scan, just wanted to see how it worked in the iPad (not too well) haha. I have a few friends with professional 3D scanners now, but I haven’t used them yet.
@@RSKI right on. Yes, assemblies are different. Make sure you set you mouse preferences to SW in Fusion. Makes your life better.
I think I did that. But it's been a while! I remember the scroll wheel was reversed direction from SW.

How do i control the depth and resolution of lidar ? Can you please help me on this .
Just in the settings inside the app. Make sure to use high res mode, then you will be able to make those other adjustments.

So what about the people that think Apple is trash and way over priced like there 700 dollar desktop casters? Lol is there a android software to use?
The higher end Apple devices have a LiDAR sensor. I’m not sure if Android does or not.
@@RSKI me either.i have a note 20 ultra so it's the highest end model for Samsung. I will look and see. Idk much about tech but I can rebuild a superjet engine with my eyes closed. I habe blown enough up in my day hahaha
