I’ve seen thousands of camera tests and comparisons but this is the first time I see an accurate test of the LiDAR feature of the iPhone. Well done! Thank you!
The soundtrack is from Spyro the Dragon: Year of the Dragon . First song is Sunny Villa.
thanks a lot, I have been waiting for this video for a long time.
The gps is definitely the improvement. Measuring two feet off from your actual location matters a lot when trying to measure small distances but it is probably as good as a phone gps could do, but when you travel 100 feet the 2 ft margin of error is a lot less impactful. I think movement and the recalculation of distance that GPS does as you move probably increases accuracy a bit as well
What app r u using to get the photos and survey on the iphone?
Very interesting! When you scanned the island, started going around the curb and got back to your starting point, how well did the point cloud align and how well did the phone scan do measuring from one side of the island curb to the other, opposite side versus the more accurate total station points? All very interesting - looking forward to additional videos on this!
What Is the App you are using on the iPhone 15 pro.
I have the same question. Thank you.
It’s Pix4Dcatch.
Nice work, Dr. Rami
In the straight line iphone test. It would be interesting to see you start recording and walk in a figure 8 patter before walking the line. Just wondering if those overlapping points would help correct the data at the BEGINNING of the dataset rather than just the end.
what is the app used in the iphone for LiDAR scanning? Thanks
Love the Spyro Music! Thanks for the video.
Ooh, interesting that you can actually gain accuracy by scanning longer! Do you think the LIDAR performed similarly on the 15 Pro to how it would’ve on the 14 Pro? I’m kinda curious if the change in LIDAR sensors has affected anything.
14 pro vs 15 pro video is coming soon, subscribe!
waiting for that@@RamiTamimi
I suppose the enhancement in accuracy point cloud could be caused by the GPS accuracy. The longer you work/scan the more accurate GPS positioning become. Also trees could influence on the accuracy as well - in the end of the scanning route you went out to the open space.
Trees will impact the gdop for sure.
if it is affected by the gps,the same will happen to 14 pro.
I'm still using the iPhone12 Pro, and I'm curious if the 15 Pro has any significant improvement in LiDAR resolution. Can it see/scan fine detail a lot better? How about depth, can it scan further away than the 12 Pro? I'd love to see some tests set up.
great video mate, would be interesting to see how the lidar has changed, if it has over the years. I wonder if that's something you would be able to make a video on? :)
Thanks for updating me , this katutsi sperato from uganda.
Great content!
thank you very much, sir
i watched a lot of your videos and decided to buy ipad for work purposes
now i'm making tons of work with lidar scaner about buildings examinations and measurments
i'm always checking the results I get, acсuracy is enough for my needs
I hope you will continue to please us with your videos

I am by no means an expert on this, but I feel some of the iPhone inaccuracies from when you were measuring out the chevrons on the roadway, happened to come from you moving too fast at first. I thought I saw a warning pop up telling you to slow down. This was very interesting though, and perhaps the phone was improving on its own. I’m just curious if you can test this theory as well. Good work! I’m not a surveyor, but work for a large CM and like to scan stuff with my phone.
Great video Rami! My total station makes accurate measurements out to almost a thousand yards. I’m curious though how or if would the iPhone’s Lidar’s accuracy change if measuring targets over a much greater distance.
Do you know if the actual DoTF sensor in the 15 is new or is it the same as before?
which app for 3d modelling? and mapping ?
please give detail information if possible. thank you
Thanks so much
which app do you use on the iPhone?
Nice Video, from a fellow survey/ engineer I wouldn’t even bother comparing the positions of the scan gps and those of the GNSS, unless the phone has RTK. The real test is whether the scan island match the Total station island. And with the linear test of those chevrons that you marked at 10 feet each, how close did the scan get to 10 feet between them?
Thank-you so much for these videos. The iphone 15 pro was supposed to have a new, much improved lidar sensor, by Sony. It appears from your data in this video (showing 1 to 3 ft error), vs your iphone 14 lidar video (showing .08 to .124 ft error), that the new lidar sensor is horribly worse. If I'm interpreting you correctly, I am very disappointed in the new iphone 15 pro lidar. Perhaps Apple didn't need a very accurate sensor for focusing, and just wanted to save money. I wonder if the MagicPlan people will still use the iphone.
yes, accuracy seem to be bad.
The inaccuracy he points out is from the GPS unit, not Lidar. He praises the accuracy of the lidar repeatedly. The point cloud and photogrammetry is frankly insane for the price. The geolocation is poor at the start of the session, but gets better as the lock improved. This also makes sense because high frequency GPS is crazy power hungry, and the mm-level accuracy of his Licia gear would be orders of magnitude overkill for 99.9995% of the billions of user’s daily lives at the expense of hours of battery life.
Be great to see a follow up of it on a gimbal, with vidoc & a combination of both.
I just bought a gimbal that can handle it, stay tuned!
I love the Spyro music playing in the background lol
edit: i just saw the discription lol
Brilliant videos, but would like to have seen a comparison with the previous Iphone data that you collected did around the perimeter of your house with and without the dji gimbal again for a like for like comparison - perhaps survey the house perimeter with total station too as a benchmark
why were you walking so fast when using the iphone?
Well done my friend. ;)
Hi Hami, what about the precision of the points? Did the iphone measure the size of the island, width of gutter, location FH, etc. correctly? Thank you!
Great questions, I can definitely follow up and get those numbers.
@@RamiTamimithat would e really interesting +1
underrrated features
Good job.
What is the app used on the iPhone?
Check the description
Which is the best app to use in AutoCAD software exporting the point cloud in . RCS? Thank you!
Could you perform such a test in the forest, what are the deviations compared to the total station?
Great job.I saw some videos saying the lidar of iphone 15 pro is a downgrade, bigger but less points,so i wonder if i should but it? But after seeing your video,i think iphone 15 worth it.
Interesting, I’ll be sure to publish my findings soon.
Am I missing something here. I use Faro S70 for capturing point cloud data and we don't use its GPS but put down markers and Survayor measures them so we can properly Geo-Locate. In the case of Iphone I think that should be done as well to be able to position it in right place. Moreover I am not surprised at all that the Iphone surface volume is higher as more points you have the more volume you will have. it is same issue when someone would measure country borders that if you have smaller distances between points the longer the perimeter goes as realife is not smooth or straight. Moreover especially when taking into account complexity of the ground.
The second test makes me more worried as the fact it gets closer results to the Total station is actually very bad as that would mean that distances between markers are quite a bit off and constant distance.
Hello!
Which IPhone application have you used to scan the Island?
PIX4Dcatch, link is in his description.
What app are you using to capture on the iPhone?
Pix4Dcatch
@@RamiTamimi Why that app out of all the choices? Have you tested many different choices, or you just happened to try that one and liked it?
@@RamiTamimi have any tips to reduce the number of credits needed?
I swear you live near me.....Canton, MI?
Is that the Spyro music?
Am I experiencing deja vu? I swear you had published this same test months ago?
I test the new iPhone every year it comes out. But I “try” to do it differently every year.
@@RamiTamimi - Thank you. As an Android user, I didn't realize this was a new device 🤦♂
All i could think of while watching this was year of the dragon
I just watched this entire video even though I have no knowledge or understanding whatsoever in regards to surveys or even how to do a decent 3d scan with my 15 pro max lol
I want to bring lidar technology to my country. Do you provide training?
Send me an email, rami@tamimi.biz
I would be intrigued to see how much accuracy on iPhone can be improved by using a viDoc
Yes, me too. The vigram and pix4D teams are still working to ensure they’ve got the perfect set up for the 15 pro.
The whole point of the slam algorithm is to reduce data drift. The more data, the smaller the drift
Thanks so much for all you do, and your enthusiasm in doing it! Please give details on the laptop specs that you use: processor, RAM, make/model, video display type. I haven’t been able to get the performance you get. Thank you,
Are you sure you have used GPS on the iPhone? Maybe the WiFi Positioning was used instead.
I do measure LiDAR by small objects used. Took my motorbike and walked around. The 3D model formed out of this data is mindblowing perfect. My software for LiDAR is Scaniverse - big difference to other LiDAR scan software available.
Bro using Spyro music? Such a throwback
FINALLY I WAS WAITING FOR THIS COMMENT!
@@RamiTamimi I WIN!!!!
I do the same thing and sneak some gems into my videos but nobody notices 😢
That 10% difference in the island… did you cut away the extra stuff that iPhone would have seen beyond the curbs?
I am wondering what laptop are you using or the specs of it. Anyways great video. Thanks for this
32gb ram with a 3060 RTX graphics card.
@@RamiTamimi Oh great.. Thankss for the reply.
I advise to scan with phone more slowly, and like a ninja, not by casual walking. It will improve the scan accuracy. Also please use some other scan apps to add more comparison!
add a stablizer,dji om6
Sir app detail please
Was I the only one bugging out about the size of the stake and how far it was driven?
Not to mention the hammer
you're walking fast as fuck xD
Interesting and useful video, but bro, the background music is just too loud, at the point that it is almost drowning your voice. You should probably try lower its volume or just get rid of it, honestly.
Which App?
Check the description
Sir am an engineer sir need tha app name on iphone 15 pro max
Sir any thing we can do with it phone 15 pro max to draw and measure and plot the earthwork crosssection using i phone 15 pro max
iPhone 14 Pro Max also?
I uploaded a video showing that the iPhone 15 pro lidar has much less dots in its projection… maybe worse scanning quality
Do u think it might be because of iOS 17 affecting the performance ?
❤️🇱🇨!!! #thankyou
It’s crazy that in the professional field of work you have to pay 60 times more just to gain these extra 5-10% in each part of the measurement!
those 5-10% could mean millions during construction
@@antolepage26 yeah, ofc, I’m just mentioning the difference between professional work and some toys like iPhone!
Has visto alguna mejora respecto el ipone14 pro max?

Hey, measuring curb, gutter, ground shots gets boring lol.
Nice content ❤ but the background sound is annoying
Spyro music lol
Wait until AI learns how to connect the right dots from those point clouds big data and compare the geotechnical data to come up with best model
You need an Macbook for this job..
No you don’t lmao
The workflow alone is frustrating...
Bro I don't know about you but I think the iPhone won by a long shot.
samsung galaxy is doing it from last 1000 years.
You wish Samsung can do it
