  • Esker just announced their brand new model: the Hayduke LVS Ti. (Hayduke Lives). This is a long wheelbase purpose-built bikepacker. I love unique bikes, and this is definitely unique. We had a chance to chat with Tim and see the thought process into this creation. What do you think? Where would you ride a long wheelbase bike? Are you interested in a bike like this, or more interested in something like the hayduke lvs?

This would be good for trail crews to haul their gear/tools when doing repairs or maintenance. With the added space, but better maneuverability than a long cargo bike, this would make perfect sense in that use.

I’m a huge fan of Esker and have the V1 Hayduke and Japhy frames that I built the Hayduke as geared and Japhy as a SS. This new Hayduke is very interesting and if I was a bike packer, I would definitely choose this. Personally I really like what Esker has done with updating the regular Hayduke, plus the Ti frame is really nice too have that extra durability and weight savings. 😊

Your description of the bike is very interesting. It seems like maybe Esker is up to something here. Weird that cargo bikes and those funky front loaded kid carriers have been around for so long, but a ridiculously long chain stay seems new and unique. Those views are absolutely exceptional!

a bike bag behind the seat tube. that's wild! but hey, you're not ripping burms or hitting doubles, so why not? for single track days on the colorado plateau, that looks like the ticket!
*also, update: Steve i got that Enigma and i've also got 3 other full squish bikes.. but i've taken the new HT out on the last FIVE rides at Hawes.. it's so fun!
thanks for being a bad influence! 😆

It didn't feel inefficient to me. It has a VERY long chain though. It feels FAR more efficient than a pinion bike.

Steve, have you ever ridden a tandem mountain bike? My wife and I do a lot of trail riding on our Ventana hardtail, and the experience seems to have much in common with what you describe on the Hayduke LVS. I think the tandem has a more even weight distribution, helping rear traction, but also has a second set of pedals, and a person who will curse you if you crash. The stability is impressive on the tandem, but can get you in over your head if you're not careful We have to resort to pogoing the fork to lift over even a smaller step up, which might work with the LVS, but it has it's limit.
Anyway, cool bike, just wondering if you had any experience or thoughts on the comparison.
