Its actually not a direct yes or no question. Its a question about moral nature mixed with a question on factual nature, and of someone else's actions, as framed by George. If I ask you about whether or not you gossiped about your friend Joe's wife, that would be a straightforward yes or no question. If I ask you "was it right for you to gossip about his wife.", that includes an inbuilt agreement about factual and moral nature. It mixes the two. To go further would be to ask someone else if it was right for you to do so(akin to what happened here).
A good example of this use of questioning that isn't yes or no, but the same deception is a famous joke example among lawyers, "When did you start beating your wife?", it starts with assumed factual nature, and would be idiotic to simply just provide an answer when what is required is a disclaimer. Whether you agree with him or not, Mike disagrees with the factual assumption, and cannot answer yes or no because of the base disagreement.
