The Big House Part 2

This is the second of a 3 part video series talking to owners and workers who lived and worked in the Estates of Westmeath from their hey day to their fall after the war. We looked for people who had stories in their families of the work on the estates and also loked into some written accounts as well. It is not a comprehensive look into all the houses, but snap shot of a time that still resonates today. This video looks at the how the estates, with the help of all the local workers, were largely self sufficient if they were to survive financially. But keeping large staff would be a burden they would not be able to sustain in the coming years..
