As a hobbyist woodworker, do I really need $2,000 drum sander? A lathe can do it.

A low-budget drum sander. It cost only $29 (If you have a lathe already)
It's not as great as a real drum sander but still does its job.

Fantastic idea but when I saw it bouncing about also sticking your hands near the drum was kinda sketchy not gonna lie 😬 try making it more solid so there is no deflection also add a belt driven feed or some sacrificial wood instead of your fingers how you have all 10 digits is mind boggling lol 😹
