  • Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, was the opening Keynote at the IIT Bay Area Leadership Conference 2023. He was gracious to sit down for the interview with Mateen Syed and spoke on the fundamentals of building a deep tech global company.
    In 2023 NVIDIA became the first chip manufacturer to reach a market cap of over $1 Trillion. And the sixth company across the globe to reach that milestone.
    NVIDIA is the leading manufacturer of computer chips running heavy video games. It started investing in AI and ML R&D during the last decade and it has helped increase the market share in high performance computing in data centers and AI computing used in robotics, crypto mining, autonomous vehicles, and mobile devices.
    Jensen Huang is a rare combination of humility and incredible success, focused vision and leadership clarity. He had the vision to prepare his highly skilled, deep tech teams for the advent of AI revolution. He is the new rock star of the tech world, and a favorite of Wall Street.
    “We observed early on, a decade and a half ago that AI at its core is a new way of doing software. And this new way of doing software is profoundly different than the way software is written in the past."
    "If software is written differently, then the computer that writes the software must be designed differently. And the type of applications that can be created from this new way of doing software must be profoundly different."
    "So we observed this fundamental fact a decade and 1/2 ago, and we activated our company to reinvent the entire computing stock, from the processors, to the systems, to the way computers are interconnected and networked together, to the software that runs on top of it. Every aspect of computing has now been transformed. And so we were fortunate to have the impact of AI. Both in the way that it's created, as well as the way that it's going to be applied. And and it's led us to a pretty exciting time.”
    “At the core AI is about automation. For the very first time, the computer could learn from its surroundings and automate a task that we teach it to do. So the ability for computers to automate unimaginable number of tasks is what has everybody so excited. When you can automate using a computer, you can also automate the discovery of very large problem spaces. That large problem space could be related to biology, so that we could discover better life saving drugs faster."
    "That large problem space could be to do a better job understanding and predicting the future of climate change so that we could be better prepared, or be better inspired for mitigation. So all of these different types of problems are so large in scope and scale and complexity, no normal software written by human can solve it. And for the very first time we have AI to help us.”
