2:10 He is rewriting history a bit. It started out as a graphics hardware company, with people spinning off of Silicon Graphics. Then, around 2007, people began using their GPUs for computing, despite a cumbersome software interface (API) for this purpose. NVIDIA saw the trend and turned in this direction.
Yeah, NVIDIA was a gaming hardware company and for years produced great affordable gaming GPUs that suprisingly worked for 3D pro work using Maya and Softimage while Real3D and Permedia were selling super pricey cards for that. The scientific/AI compute is relatively recent but it was pretty easy to see where that was going when NVIDIA introduced shaders. To be fair, BitBoys never-made-to-market Pyramid3D had computable pixel pipelines too.
The interviewer did a great job! As someone in the technology industry, I can tell she has a good understanding of Nvidia, AI, GPUs, the current state of the field, and the questions people have.
Wow I have to commend CNBC, Katie Tarasov, and team, for putting together a good interview with insightful questions that actually showed knowledge of NVIDIA’s history and the field of computing.

This is a myth. If they wanted to, they could order more wafers from TSMC. In fact, they were supposed to receive more wafers, but decided to cut them down (back in ~October 2022, as I remember). They decided not to create more GPUs, deliberately, as a choice - to artificially slow down supply, sell Ampere stock, and inculcate a new price floor on consumers for generations to come.
@@Mrfiufaufou It's literally the exact opposite. You can't blame people for making choices that benefit themselves: their budgets are tight, the information they have about the products they consume is limited, their education is inadequate, etc. You're putting the burden on the wrong people. You know who you can blame? The entity that oversees the entire chain of production. The entity who makes all the decisions about their product. The entity that fully understands what their product is, does, and how much it costs. The entity that unilaterally sets prices, that avoids regulations, that rips off or lies to consumers in a myriad of ways.
@Steven S. You're attacking a point that no one made. No one said that you need a 4090. But everyone is correctly saying that GPU prices are too high. I don't "blame" Nvidia either, but you're blaming consumers. Further, you're not willing to criticize the system when it allows corporations like Nvidia to gouge their costumers.

OR... you could've just waited for the price to go down, as it always does, but I guess you just had to play that handful of games that will actually REQUIRE the latest & greatest. I've heard AMD has been doing better lately though with software compatibility, but they also have raised their prices after gaining a little bit of market share. Meanwhile, Intel is on the tail of AMD gaining market share at a cheaper price! Good luck AMD! Here's to more competition in the GPU space! 😅
@@megamanx466 Not at all, I had a budget card from 2017, and wanted to upgrade, yet, I couldn't with NVIDIA. Got a budget AMD card, and I dont play the latest and greatest games, at all. It was hugely serendipitous that the maths needed for computer graphics (drawing pretty triangle) and the way the GPU could do that maths in parallel, aligned with the maths needed for neural networks (simply multiply and add but across). (edit - great to see Jensen acknowledge that )

I went with AMD this graphics card cycle (first time I didn't go with nVidia in nearly two decades), because they've got DisplayPort 2.1, and bandwidth is important when one is interested in 8K displays. I just hope an 8K monitor better than the Dell UP3218K comes out before too long, because my Dell, which I've had for four years now, has a TAB-error, and I'd like something a little bit more advanced, preferably with a smaller 27 inch diagonal and higher pixel density.
I’ve seen people complaining about the lack of DP2.1, but it never make sense to me. NVIDIA cards have HDMI 2.1, which is also capable of 8k@60Hz. And none of the card on the market today is capable of rendering 8k at higher than 60 fps. I just don’t understand why that is a deal breaker
@@Owenzzz777, it's about future-proofing for the monitors that I hope are coming, if the display industry will get off it's lazy behind and innovate in that area. I need to use two DisplayPort cables to run my UP3218K. They should be able to do it with just one, reduce the screen size to ~27", which is my ideal screen size for a desktop monitor, and improve things like black levels, contrast, color gamut, pixel response time, etc... And, of course, higher than 60Hz refresh would be nice too. I've been chasing the perfect monitor for decades, and shall likely continue to for as long as my eyes still work.

@@danielkisel5661 to be really picky, it's usually implemented as a dynamic EQ (when a certain frequency gets loud enough, reduce the loudness of that frequency) But yeah it drives a lot of us nuts, to the point where we've developed de-eSSers
@Xld3 Yes, but desser was the tool that was originally created just for this purpose, to reduce the harshness and sibilance in sound. First dessers were hardware based way before dynamic eq was even possible. And honestly difference between dynamic eq and multiband compressor is more vocabulary than real use case. So yes dynamic eq is just the most flexible and can do it all basically, but I would still use and prefer to use dedicated desser which was fine tuned over the years to react just to sibilance something like Weiss desser tbh. 😉 Or if we want to go really modern then something like soothe...
@@danielkisel5661 fair enough, it's like a multiband that just uses a single narrow band. I made recommendations they should go into AI by feedback and maybe they read my feedback as well who knows loved the NVIDIA stuff while im doomed to play video games because adhd makes it hard to follow and actuallize my actual goals/potential, but with AI maybe i can find adhd meds. Going natural did not work that much quite a brutal failure
How do we "power up"? Exactly, other than using ChatGPT4? Machine learning is beyond reach for most of us or even programming experts. Lex Fridman (podcast) is struggling too.
There was little to no research and the questions were general and superficial at best: we learned very little.
Jensen is always a pleasure to listen to - expands my mind every time. But kudos to Katie for such well organized and thoughtful questions. One of the best interviews in tech.
Amazing content! I have been following your videos for some time now. I've been working on scaling my business for two years and have seen some great progress. Currently, I'm facing some challenges and wondering if there are any short-term opportunities I can explore to help scale further,.
Reason I decided to work closely with an brokerage-adviser ever since the market got really tensed and the pressure became so much(I should be retiring in 17months) so I've had an brokerage-adviser guide me through the chaos, its been 9months and counting and I've made approx. 650K net from all of my holdings.
Glad to have stumbled on this comment, Please who is the consultant that assist you and if you don't mind, how do I get in touch with them?

He has in depth Knowledge and focus what he does and what he aims
2:10 He is rewriting history a bit. It started out as a graphics hardware company, with people spinning off of Silicon Graphics. Then, around 2007, people began using their GPUs for computing, despite a cumbersome software interface (API) for this purpose. NVIDIA saw the trend and turned in this direction.
Not to mention claiming Nvidia invented Ray Tracing lol
ppvw9ljl ?+
😮
Jensen's god complex has pitted himself against his customers. Note the withdrawal of EVGA which was a big Nvidia customer.
I saw Jensen in Hyderabad, India at the lunch table. It was such an honour to meet a Visionary Legend.
The interviewer did a great job! As someone in the technology industry, I can tell she has a good understanding of Nvidia, AI, GPUs, the current state of the field, and the questions people have.
Taiwanese American accounts for only 0.2% of USA population. But they are everywhere in the tech world and top universities.
Just imagine if China became like Taiwan (or even the old Hong Kong).
Taiwan is basically the hub of semiconductor manufacturing FYI
@@GregMoress why they still didn't become?😂
Taiwan being a free and democratic state helps
Taiwan is very close with America. Among the recent five Taiwan presidents, two went to Harvard, another two went to Cornell in the U.S.
Wow I have to commend CNBC, Katie Tarasov, and team, for putting together a good interview with insightful questions that actually showed knowledge of NVIDIA’s history and the field of computing.
This was a great interview. He’s a fantastic leader and it’s no surprise Nvidia is having a moment!
I recently sold some of my long-term position and currently sitting on about 250k, do you think Nvidia is a good buy right now or I have I missed out on a crucial buy period, any good stock recommendation on great performing stocks will be appreciated.
I think the next big thing will be A.I. For enduring growth akin to META, it's vital to avoid impulsive decisions driven by short-term fluctuations. Prioritise patience and a long-term perspective most importantly consider financial advisory for informed buying and selling decisions.
A lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850K
Your advisor must be really good, I hope it's okay to inquire if you're still collaborating with the same advisor and how I can get in touch with them?
Rebecca Nassar Dunne is the licensed fiduciary I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment..
I was curious after reading what you shared, so I Googled her name. I came across her webpage.
This is why GPU pricing wont go down. AI and B2B is NVIDIAs target market. They aren’t going to waste fab time making affordable GPUs for PC gamers
mm, kinda make sense
This is a myth. If they wanted to, they could order more wafers from TSMC. In fact, they were supposed to receive more wafers, but decided to cut them down (back in ~October 2022, as I remember). They decided not to create more GPUs, deliberately, as a choice - to artificially slow down supply, sell Ampere stock, and inculcate a new price floor on consumers for generations to come.
gaming GPUs will use chips that are rejected by AI/Deep Learning aka enterprise.
This was such a great interview! I loved the questions this interviewer asked. Can we next time please show respect and use her name in the title also CNBC? She needs to be credited as the interviewer/journanlist.
Man, I've learned so much by just his answers alone. His explanations are just like his company's product. Complex but very easy to understand.
More quarters and outlooks from big tech names, powered by Nvidia (which has more chips than we thought!), as well as this trader FOMO, may lead to renewed buying strength in markets in September and October. I want to invest more than $300k, but I'm not sure on how to mitigate risk
Nvidia stock is roaring like many did during the 1990s bubble. But this time around, the hype around new chips is happening in a more mature demand environment.

Most of all, I love how he raised the price of graphics cards 2 or 3 fold over the past 3 years, forcing me to go to AMD.
What a nice guy.
Congratulations! You should get a medal! 🏅
OR... you could've just waited for the price to go down, as it always does, but I guess you just had to play that handful of games that will actually REQUIRE the latest & greatest.
I've heard AMD has been doing better lately though with software compatibility, but they also have raised their prices after gaining a little bit of market share. Meanwhile, Intel is on the tail of AMD gaining market share at a cheaper price!
Good luck AMD! Here's to more competition in the GPU space! 😅
Yet AMD kept their prices low!
@@megamanx466 Not at all, I had a budget card from 2017, and wanted to upgrade, yet, I couldn't with NVIDIA. Got a budget AMD card, and I dont play the latest and greatest games, at all. The budget side of gpus have gotten worse in value much faster than the high end gpus. That's where you really see the price gouging and stagnation from both AMD and NVIDIA. The 3050 and rx 6500 are just shocking and would never have happened 3 years ago.
I gave up on AMD. Every piece I have had by them was spitty, stumbling poor quality semi-junk. You see it all the time with Linus and Jay. The underdog many times is just a dog.

Audio needs a low pass filter. "S" sounds are so sharp it almost hurts.
It's called desser not lowpass what you mean is a compressor that suppress upper midrange frequencies, lowpass would make them sound muddy if they actually used it to effectively suppress s sounds...
Just saying.
@@danielkisel5661 to be really picky, it's usually implemented as a dynamic EQ (when a certain frequency gets loud enough, reduce the loudness of that frequency)
But yeah it drives a lot of us nuts, to the point where we've developed de-eSSers
