    Hi Claire, thank you so much for doing porch coffee. It is hard for me to have or make friends. I only have one friend. She is such a dear that I have known since I was 9 but anyway, thanks for doing what you do and yes, unedited videos , do that . that can count as an autism video for the week. You could just have a camera running while you're working on your arts and crafts. The more we can normalize and accept our unmasked Autism, the better for us and the better for the upcoming generations. Thanks, Claire, have a great day.

    Hey, with the groceries, order most of them, and go on a shorter shopping quest for the missing items. Its less time in that bright and shouty environment, and you can take your time with it because even if you abandon the mission partway through, you have most of the groceries at home already. It feels inefficient, but it also means you could go and explore a more fancy food shop, or one that stocks unique items that your regular one doesn't. You could pick the nicest, friendliest, and most relaxing venue for your quest. You could dress up and make it an event.
    Years ago I heard someone say that they'd told their therapist they were exhausted for various reasons. One of those reasons was having to rinse the plates before they went in the dishwasher, because otherwise they came out with food on and needed to be handwashed anyway. The therapist apparently said "run the dishwasher twice". 🤯 The idea of being that inefficient in order to gain a different kind of efficiency blew my mind. I think home delivery + grocery quest falls under the "run the dishwasher twice" philosophy. Be inefficient on purpose. Intentionally split the task for maximum benefit 😉

      I don't like using online shopping either. I can't get much done with the thought of someone coming to my door. they give you crap fruit and veg too.😂. I use Taylor's hack of the ear plugs. Does really help with the noise plus less people doing a 7am shop .😊

      This has been my go to method for the last year. 1x weekly shop delivered 1-2x small stops to get forgotten/randomly out of/need for a specific dish items then 1x weekend top up/frivolous snack shop before the weekend.
      It works, why change 😅

    I'm tired and kind of grumpy this morning. Can't wait for my coffee, but I'm stopping at McDonald's for it today. Totally a bad habit, but so handy! Besides, I am hitting a major case of overwhelm and can't seem to do anything without freezing. Totally awesome.

    Was thinking about hair colour and masking over the last month or so. I am very late in discovering my autism (64). I have always had periods in my life where I had wacky hair colour. I actually always saw it as rebellion against social expectations which would actually mean it was anti masking! I have noticed though that many autistic women have unusual hair colour. Be interested to hear other opinions. Anyway, all that just to say that I have recently figured a way to channel my inner mermaid! Lol. Hair is currently a blend of blue, pink and mauve with a few strands of my natural silver showing. I love it and it's completely unique! Go me!!

    • @hannahowen1801
      @hannahowen1801 6 месяцев назад +4

      I can relate to this very much. When your hair is coloured in a way that is outside of the norm, people don't place their usual societal expectations on you quite as much. It works better inside our heads, but it's still a lot of fun. I'm going for a beautiful fuchsia next with a flick of either violet for yellow. It's a potent form of self-expression for us neurodivergent folk.

    • @WoodshedTheory
      @WoodshedTheory  6 месяцев назад +4

      Hi Wendy - i think i tend to agree that is a type of anti masking - if you are doing it just for yourself. i know there have been times in my life where i have been different maybe to fit in with different sub cultures

    • @wendyfollett8099
      @wendyfollett8099 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@WoodshedTheory I have never felt that I fitted anywhere. I never knew why until recently. I have only ever had one or two people in my life that I counted as friends and that's throughout the entire 64 years! I have taken great pleasure in being as different as I can be because what I saw in the world was completely dysfunctional. Now I'm pretty certain I know what the difference is and it makes complete sense of the course of my life and why I never felt I belonged anywhere. The hair has always been part of the way in which I've stuck 2 fingers up at the world I never felt comfortable in. I'm still laughing and I feel such relief at finding out the answer. Best of all, I am gradually finding my people, those that I do understand and I love it!

      I agree! I view my body modifications - permanent like tattoos or temporary like makeup - as putting the real me first. ❤
      And though hair color isn't usually something I explore - I keep very short hair for tactile stim reduction and ease of maintenance bc hair color is another thing that's hard for me to manage personally cuz of exec functioning limits - I could totally see how going more "natural" with your color might feel less natural or true to you ha!
      Unmasked mermaid hair sounds more authentic the way you described it 😊

    I’m going to call it seen on Monday even though it’s actually 14 minutes after midnight I started watching 5 minutes before. lol.
    I’ve been to busy this week. I helped a friend in the beginning of the week. And spend most of the rest of the week on finishing the room I’m going to move my leather work in. I also have been working on producing items to put in the Etsy store when I open it. We can’t have a Etsy with only a few items.
    Talking about sleep, I’ve had to catch up on sleep today. My body went nope this morning and my brain agreed. I am a true insomniac I don’t sleep that many hours a night and given that I’ve been busy I had to take a day. Even when I do sleep I wake up multiple times which leaves you tired in the morning. I wouldn’t wish sleep problems on any one.
    Have a good week Claire and Friends.

    " I can make 5 in an hour." 😂 I love that voice. Cracked me up. Actually quite similar to what I hear in my head when I think of what certain braggy relatives in my life start lecturing they can do and so I should too. Health for your hair is important. I think its wise to be careful with it at this point. Green can reappear in time. The idea of it being your mask is weird to me. I would think masking would be more trying to blend in.Seems like folks picking up on a word used to describe something in the autism community without really understanding it. Good porch coffee. Gave me a nice smile to start my week. I have been dealing with sinus crud and taking care of family with the same, as well as the relative emptying of the house as older boys go back to college and adult life. Ive had insomnia even as a small toddler, my mom said she would wake up to me playing with toys in my room at like 3 am. I find it impossible to sleep sometimes but Ive found having an insanely regimented bedtime routine to be the only thing able to make my brain queued for sleep. Excited to see you achieve your goals for youtube this year and the upcoming collab!❤🎉

I also need a sound machine to drown out any outside noises. My most recent discovery that seems to help is using an essential oil diffuser. I read an article recently that it could help with memory because the memory centers in our brain are near the olfactory centers (or something like that). I'm not sure if it's helping with memory, but it has helped me with falling asleep a little faster most nights. It also seems to help to keep on a regular sleeping schedule. 🤗 Best wishes to you in figuring out your recent sleep issues.

One goal thing I’ve used is a kind of app that is more visual than just a list called MindNode. It’s a mind map and brainstorming app but it can be hierarchical. So you can break down a goal into its small elements and not just have it be a central idea with random branches coming off of it. If that makes sense???
      When I’m stuck in PDA on a goal I try to remind myself that this is something *I* want to do and not something that someone else is imposing on me. Sometimes that works, sometimes not. Not necessarily 100% effective when it’s a goal that a boss, for instance, has given you in a performance review kind of thing. If I’m stuck in that case, I’ll try to figure out something really really small I can do that works towards that work goal. For instance, if I had to do cold calls-which I loath!-then I’d maybe find some advice online or maybe message a friend to tell them I’m struggling and get their thoughts. Or I might even think about what advice I’d *give* to a friend in the same situation and see if I could turn it back to myself.
      All that’s to say I may not actually make a cold call but I’d have done something towards getting closer to the goal and I’d consider that a win. Mind you, if the boss wants 10 cold calls a day maybe I’m not the right fit for that job and I need to start looking for what is a better fit! True story! 😂
      One thing that really helped me in figuring out what my strengths were was doing something called Strengthsfinder quiz. It’s a Gallup survey product, I think. And it helped me realize that my empathy strength isn’t a bad thing in the workplace. And that there are ways to use it and frame it as a positive in a work environment that may see it as too ‘squishy’.
      Anyhooooooooo, I’ve rambled. Does any of this speak to what you’re looking for? I hate to suggest an app because 1. We can get fired up on a new bit of tech to learn, and 2. The idea isn’t really dependent on the app, but it makes it easier to do it…at least for me. If I were really into drawing my own mind map then it could def be done that way. But, alas, I’m not.
      Oooo, and I just thought of another thing. Don’t be afraid to abandon a goal that you discover isn’t working for you or isn’t really what you want. I’ve for sure gotten stuck in the ‘I must achieve my goal’ cycle only to realize once I got there I totally didn’t dig the result and then got mad at myself for wasting the time. When I’m in a healthy frame of mind I can see it as not wasting time but as a learning experience in a long life.
      Ok, now I’ve really rambled!!!!!!! 😂😂😂 Thanks again for asking!!! 🙏

    I don't know that I feel like unnatural haircolor is a mask. Masking is usually done so we don't stand out, so that we blend in as much as possible. I love having unnatural haircolor but I'm unfortunately to the place where I can't use lightener or permanent/demi permanent hair color- I can only use the semi now which doesn't stick as well to natural hair but I'm still using it and just seeing how it goes. I switched to red cause it seems to stick better and I don't have to upkeep it as much as I didi the green but green was one of my favorites. I do love porch coffee and appreciate that you do it and it feels like a conversation cause you do a good job of replying back. And squishy things are fun. I love plushies and squishmallows and etc. Have fun with the collab!

    I got a few squishy fidget toys over the summer, I have a small one that’s discreet enough to have in my hands at work that I love. (The word “stim” gives me such an ick lol so I just call them fidget toys)
    About a year ago I decided to stop getting my hair dyed because I hate the process of sitting there for hours with all the foils on my head. The line where the dye ends is pretty obvious but I’ve decided I just don’t care enough to do anything about it. Embracing my natural hair color for the first time since I was like 13 is really nice

    Sleep issues: Sleep apnea is my biggest problem, for which I have a CPAP. I'm not sure that's related to autism as this was not always the way it was.
    My Week: More grinding away at my book that I'm working through for a longer term goal I have this year. I'm at a tricky (but fun) part of the book and am spending a decent amount of time taking notes on the subject. Additionally, I'm working through some supplemental work to ensure that I really understand what the book is teaching. There's some other books I want to get through, but... I'll get there. I hit my goal of increasing my books read. Goal was 12 books, I ended up working through about 18 if you count graphic novels. This is the highest number of books I've been able to get through since High School. (Think half were non fiction, the other half were fiction...)

    On the topic of your hair... the Green hair did make your eyes seem more green. Both this hair and the green suit you well. What about temporary colour sometimes or dye that works on dark hair so it doesn't have to be bleached? I don't mean right now, since it just had a lot of processing, but eventually, if you want some colour without the bleach. I don't think the colours turn out the same vibrancy as on bleached hair, but I have seen some in pharmacies for dark hair. Just a possible idea for the future if you hadn't thought of it.
    Just do your best at the 1 autism video a week. Of course a video that needs to be researched and more heavily edited would take longer and might not always be possible, depending on what else is going on in your life at that time. It makes sense they'd require more spoons to make overall than something like Porch Coffee. I'm sure people will understand if some are missed due to life being life.
    On unedited, you can do if you wish. If you're comfortable doing it, do it. I might stop some of the "you don't look autistic" comments... or maybe not.
    Yay for cute yarn squishy from Taylor.
    Grocery shopping is exhausting... and I usually do it on Tuesday evening AFTER work... because that way I don't have to make a special trip out of the house for it.
    This past week? Nothing special... snow. Birthday celebration at my parents' place (birthday is only on this Wed.). Shoveling. More snow on the way tomorrow and a lot more for next weekend. I'm glad we together before my birthday and not after since it seem there's more snow next weekend. I hate driving at night... my eyes are super sensitive to bright lights so I'm easily blinded by headlights... but I went home Saturday night since the snow was just starting and that there was nothing outside when I got home... lights weren't too bad...not too much traffic... it was an okay drive. If I slept over and went home Sunday morning, it was the middle of a storm... at least my road wasn't clear... I didn't leave the house except to shovel.
