- This is part 1 of 2 where I purchased a second UNI-T 139C to test. This time I took my time to show some of the features it has and how it compares with other meters I have evaluated.

I would like to see someone do a review and teardown of the larger Voltcraft meters, sold by a german company owned by Conrad something or other, but they look like rebadged UniT meters except the rubber surround is light gray instead of red, controls look very much the same.
Their inside is completely different than that of the UNI-Ts

Of course it dies at the same point where the first one I looked at did but toss in a little review and people don't mind as much.
Cool review! Now I'm much more about to buy 139C instead of others (like MS8229). I think it just will need to get a better temp. probe (to calibrate my future soldering iron).
it only measures to 230°c so too low for most Solder Irons , get a cheap clone Hakko FG100 instead for tip temp testing.
Thanks! My real headache now is where to find a good soldering iron :) I've noticed that Atten SS-50 (that is really good) just got vanished from all chinesse sellers. They only write SS-50 but ships SA-50 (that even on pictures has worse quality).
Should I buy WIT-802 instead of it? I've seen it for a reasonable price on Ali. Also the seller writes that it's "made in Japan".
YIhua 939D or TS100 if you want affordable irons. They are both excellent and heat up very quickly and reliable.
The 139C can measure up to 1000 degrees celsius. You just need to to buy another probe to be able to measure high temperatures. I bought 5 probes on eBay for $5. They work like a charm.

Thanks. Most of my equipment is pretty old and needed repairs but gets the job done. I have been amazed myself at just how much of a difference there has been in all the meters I have looked at.
I did buy one of these for $32 and it works ok but im fully aware of its protection limitations, strictly low to moderate DC for me-lol Sad part is this one and the 61E have the possiblity to be much more decent meters with maybe another $15 or so added to the price.
They do offer the certified version of the UT61E. I suspect it would still fail the gas grill ignitor and it sells for a lot more than an additional $15. Beyond the parts, someone is paying for that certification.
WHAT IS THE REASON I COULD NOT MEASURE THE OSCILLATOR IN Hz STAGE WITH UT139C MODEL MULTIMETER? UT61C MODEL CAN READ 32.768 FREQUENCY VALUES. IS IT POSSIBLE TO MEASURE Tuning-fork crystal used in a modern quartz watch WITH UT139C?

Most likely a hardware failure. Assuming the leads are still alright, you may be looking at a new meter. On the plus side, these are fairly inexpensive to replace.
Hi Joe do you know how the clamp meter option works on this multimeter. would be a very useful feature along with the temperature measurement capability. I cannot find anything on the Internet about how the clamp meter function works on this multimeter. thanks
+shnider156 Sorry but I have no idea. I have not been looking at the current inputs when I test these meters. I did pick up a UNI-T UT210E that I was going to run across this jig and ended up keeping it.
Works great. Connect the clump to the meter. Put in 10mV posolition switch on the clump. Start measuring. Min/Max is great in this mode. Used different clamps with this meter on 10mV setting on the clamp.meter. Actual rating for the clamp attachement was Cat II but it was fine for occasional mesdurement of Cat III equipment and on one occasion it was used with some precaution in Cat IV environment though this is absolutely not recommended. Current clump attachement was with 10mV/1mV switch anf current of 100wt appliance was measured absolutely accurate. Appliance was running at 90% of efficient power and meter picked this up nicely.
Ive just got back into going deeper into electronics... What would you recommend for home/auto/diy projects (radios, static generators...)
Been looking at eevblog bm235, amprobe 530, uni-T ut61E or D..., Any other recomendations or is my desire for bm235 better all round .. i dont want a fluke $$$$
I suggest you take the time to read the FAQ.
I can offer you some advice based on the many comments I have received. It seems many people will buy a product that does not meet their requirements. They will then ask me how to modify them. I suggest you be smarter with your purchases. Buy the products that fit your needs.

i got ut 139 c above six mounts a go. now voltage display as multiply by
two & ohms auto range and decimal points error :( . i used ut 60b
meter six years. ut 139 c is suck.
+Dayal Samanpriya Sorry to hear that your meter failed. Maybe they will repair it under warranty. If you have looked at the data I have collected, UNI-T have done poorly overall.

I doubt I will look at another UNI-T product unless they release an update to the UT181A. Why? Because the vast majority I have looked at performed very poorly in these tests.

Problem is i want to measure ac voltage but not in standard 50-60hz range... i want to measure in 20-40hz ac voltage. do you think it will perform good?
Not according to their manual. Have you downloaded it? If not, do that and read page 18.
damn, 45hz-1khz.. i so badly wanted a low budget good meter like this to read below 50hz. i am lost now
It is a popular meter!!! Can you mod it to add robustness to it please...?
You could try and improve one based on what I showed with the UT61E but I would strongly discourage it. If you want a more robust or certified meter, just buy one.
I know, I know I'm an idiot but I only care about features, accuracy and resolution. Couldn't give the 1st fook if glass fuses are going to scratch the inside of the case. I'm not @photonicinduction 😂
Photoninduction shows a mix of high voltage low current, high current low voltage and high current high voltage. My tests are basically high voltage low energy transients. There is a FAQ that covers most of the basic questions.
Is ut139c good for electronics projects?
Like anything it depends what your specific needs are and this is why I don't make recommendations.

Help me please. Device UNI-T139C. It does not work auto-range, only manual mode. Caption "auto-range" is shows on display, but shows 0L. Now is not working auto-range in all modes, but measures the values correctly. How can I fix auto range of measurements?

Watched your video. Strange indeed. I have not had much luck fixing UNI-T meters. They are cheap enough. Maybe just get a new one to replace it?
Hello. I use the device often, so buy a new one until I am. Maybe calibration turned bad? As such a device is calibrated? Thank you.
You could try and contact UNI-T and see if they will support you. Beyond that I don't think there is much you can do besides replace it.

Yeah, according to some people on the eevblog forums this meter does require the voltage to dip below zero to measure frequency. Really dumb design IMHO.
+Gooberslot That seemed to be the case. Not sure why they would not at least have it high enough to handle some basic digital logic.
