James seems like he would be so cool to just hang out with. And I love that at the fan stuff he really just talks like this, so casually with everyone, while sitting on a table. :)
Looks like very recently, EVEN JOSS said Spike was the right couple for Buffy!! He created the character and it took years and years for him to realize that! I mean, he wasn't obviously a right couple for anybody at the beginning, but the fully developed ensouled Spike became the most amazing person in the world!! (well, after Cordelia)
At the end of Season 7, I'm sorry but Buffy would end up with Spike. He isn't the wrong guy anymore but a really dependable one on which she can count on but still has more personality than Angel. Too often Season 7 is overlooked because of the potentials and the lack of focus on the scoobies (big problemes I agree) but the Spike and Buffy relationship was the best thing we got out of it. Also Buffy and Angel were so cheesy and superficial together they made me laugh especially compared to the other amazingly portrayed relationships in this show.
@ohmyfrickingmiley I believe when Spike said "no you don't" he was pulling a Buffy. She has used the exact words when Spike professed his love to her even though she knew damn well it was true. At that pt they both knew without a doubt that Buffy was in love with Spike. The clasped hands in flames is symbolic of their souls coming togetther. The "thanks for saying it" was bcuz it was something he wanted to hear for so long, but at that moment it wasn't necessary...their eyes said it all.
@ohmyfrickingmiley If I am not mistaken, James did say it should be Spike but he believed that the writers would choose Angel. I think overall Spike was the better vamp...soulless or ensouled. He was more human than Angel. Soulless Angel was evil, twisted, badass Angelus. Would Buffy have ever trusted Dawn with a soulless Angel? She sure the hell trusted Spike with Dawn even after the attempted rape.
@FaithTheSpikelover Yeah...and that "first love" was a teenage love that she idolized. I believe she would always have feelings of love for Angel...but Spike is the one for her. Spike showed human traits even when he was soulless...he was willing to change for her. Buffy definately chose Spike over and over...in S7 she put herself in danger and defied everyone (even Giles) for Spike. How many times did Spike ask her to dust him? How many times did he grab her by the throat?
lol "Joss pays me, I don't wanna pay him!" I think he's right that the writers meant Buffy and Angel to belong together in the series at that point, but after reading season 8 we can see that she always ends up falling apart from Angel whereas Spike is still there. So Buffy should definitely be with Spike. Anyway, that's my opinion. Sorry for all the Bangel fans out there.
I'm pretty sure that James always says that Buffy would choose Angel because James is still hung up on the AR. When he says 'end of season 5' here, it's a slip, he means s6. There's several vids on here where he says he felt suicidal having to act the AR, and even though Spike got his soul after that, I think perhaps James hasn't got beyond it from things he said in a sit down tea I went to last year (James and just 6 of us - it was divine!).
Spiffy!!! As twisted as their relationship was in season 6, I think the violence was necessary to give Buffy a purpose to renew herself, and Spike, the strong will to regain his soul, or humanity. I feel like their love was more passionate because it touched upon both the rough and gentle sides of their relationship, thereby binding them together more fully. Annndddd, they are >>>>w
ok look, joss whedon does the episodes by what fans want. he doesnt do it because he thinks its right to the producers. the end of buffy was such BIIIIIIIIGGGGGGG stuff for buffy and spike. she told spike she loved him "i love you."-BUFFY to SPIKE. and he saved the world! so if buffy were to come back on angel she would of chosen spike. also i hate bangel. spuffy4EVR!!!
On JMs official website (jamesmarsterslive)...check out comments from March 2010. That is exactly how I interpreted the finale. Their hands in flames to me was symbolic of Spike and Buffy's souls coming together.
In real world i couldnt care less if buffy was to choose Angel or spike. But for the sake of the show and entertainment itself, Bangel is boring. Smoochies, fights, smoochies, oh and more smoochies. At least there's sparkles and fire and substance with Spuffy.
Actually, if you listen to Joss' commentary for the last episode, you'll find out otherwise. That wasn't the intention. Joss said that what he wanted wasn't so clear though, becuase the actors were tired and they didn't have time. To paraphrase, Joss said to Sarah and James, respectively "love him when you say you love him, and love her when you say she doesn't"
If the only options were Angel and Spike, I'd say Spike, considering the trials he goes through... but to be honest, I wouldn't have her end up with either vampire. It's something that a character limit won't allow me to fully explain, and believe me I considered trying. lol Either way, I am on the she-who-hates-Riley boat! What an utter tool.
Really. I actually heard from another saying she wasn't a fan with B/A because of season 3. She said, Buffy would always love Angel but not the same. But yes I heard also that Buffy loved Spike but she didn't know if it was in love. They probably would have answered all our questions if they continued Angel or Buffy.
SMG: "I can't say enough amazing things about David Boreanaz. We had the most amazing working relationship I've ever had, and I've been blessed with the guys that I've worked opposite....But David and I had a very, very special relationship. In three years of working together, we never had so much as a disagreement, and that's just unbelievable, considering the hours we spent together. And we worked so well together. We could gauge each other's moods. We could help each other.
Was James even concious for Season 7?! Joss has suggested otherwise before (e.g. commentary of the last episode over the scene when Buffy tells Spike she loves him), and when asked, Sarah said that she thinks Buffy should be with Spike. Spike loved her SO MUCH, even without a soul, that he got a soul for her They'll always be in love on some level, but that doesn't mean they should be together. Besides, people seem to forget about ANGEL'S CURSE
I've always said this As a human Liam was a idiot and a bit of a dick. As Angelus he was vicious with no trace of humanity As a human William was a kind hopeless romantic As a vampire he was bad but parts of William survived. In the end despite being a vampire buffy treated spike as a man. And spike loved Buffy even without a soul. Spike even tried to do good without a soul. Angelus Carried on being vicious. Spike was the better fit. Would always be by her side treating her as a equal. To be friend and lover. Though many people do support Buffy and angel I think they were first loves. And that's very important. But spike and angel were a more mature love. There relationship grew more real
I have to politely disagree that Spike was a more mature or realistic love in any way. 'Enemies-to-lovers' is a far rarer, and more risky and immature, trope for the real world than any other, even love at first sight. Yes, it would be foolish to marry some person you had fallen in love with at first sight the very next day, but even more foolish and doomed to failure for you to get together with someone who had abused you in the past. Buffy treated Spike horribly, and she never even apologized after he got the soul. This is no foundation for a good relationship. Not the slightest realism in that relationship working out. There are abusive relationships in the real world, yes, but they DON'T WORK OUT! Sometimes not even after an apology and changed life. I have some friends who are recovered alcoholics: a couple of them got their marriages back once they had recovered and their spouses had reason to believe the past abuse was over and sincerely repented of, but others didn't. It can often just be too triggering to go back to that person and be reminded of the abusive times, REALISTICALLY. Bangel was quite a simplistic love setup, I agree. But it was still more mature and realistic than Spuffy. Attacking someone like that and thinking you can just move on without an apology or amends is beyond childish: it's wrong. Buffy became a better person when Angel came back from hell and she was looking out for him; she became a worse person with Spike. Realistically, you have a much better chance of a good relationship when you are with someone who makes you a better person. People can debate whether Angel or Spike became MORE of a better person for Buffy; but the clincher is going to remain that Buffy became a better person with Angel and a worse person with Spike. The most realistic tropes, of course, are friends-to-lovers or acquaintances-who-take-the-time-to-fall-in-love. These are the basis for at least 90% of the successful relationships I know of, and that's conservative estimate. Buffy would have been more realistic falling in love with Xander, or Principal Wood. The reason everyone likes Spuffy, speaking as a writer, is that it requires very sophisticated WRITING and dramatic skills to make such an unrealistic trope believable, and it's full of conflict and drama and keeps the show going for three more seasons. But it doesn't line up with the real world where good relationships are, quite frankly, boring to watch because there's no drama in the happy, compatible couples that make up real-life successful relationships.
hmm. I'm not sure I've always been more of a spuffy fan but I'm pretty sure even through I haven't read the whole season8 that buffy does end up with spike at end of season8. Plus with the whole angle being twilight thingy during season8 yeah I don't see things really working well between those two inless angle does bring giles back
@TheTimelordLover, forgive me...you are so right! I just checked the whole comment string and quite a few B/A comments were hidden or marked erroneously as spam. I've set it right and will check to see if I can set parameters to prevent this and I'll try to be more vigilant in the future. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
part2: At the Tea, James was again talking about Spike being the bad boy & that in real life bad boys are dangerous, & about the AR and that it was needed to show that Spike was still evil. Could be wrong here, but seems like James hasn't forgiven Spike despite the soul and world saving cos it was such a traumatic thing to have to act.
part 3: James hates scenes like that, he throws things at the TV. But I know he still loves the character of Spike, so maybe he just thinks Buffy & Spike could never move beyond it.
Even though I m a die hard spuffy shipper, I think buffy would have chosen Angel. She never loved Spike, right? I mean he was in her heart, like she said to Angel but it was not love.
Uhm, I read it earlier this year I think. It was a direct quote from Sarah where she suggested that's the way she feels. I can't remember what website it was from though... I wanted to link you to it but I can't remember. Apparantly once James was on the show more, Sarah said that James was the person she hung out with most on set or something in an interview just after Buffy finished. I guess if they came to be even better friends than Sarah and David, maybe Sarah's decision was swayed by that.
I love angel and buffy...but I just don't think the relationship makes sense after Angel moves away and Buffy matures...so I can't help but agree with her. I don't know. Of course i haven't heard it DIRECTLY from her or anything, but the sources I got the info from were pretty reliable. Not biased (like me, i guess. lol) or anything.
I dont think he right ! if they did where buffy chose spike or angel . i think that should get chose ! Spike is so FIT !!! Angel is to but spike is so fit i love him SPIKE ALL THE WAY
Ok, that's cool. Believe me I loved DB and SMG during season 1 and 2, they were interesting to watch. If they got along and if Sarah prefers B/A that's fine.
Well according to JM...it would have been Spike...but the writers would have chosen Angel. I don't think the writers would have gone the Angel way...but might have because Spike was more popular than Angel. Besides what could Buffy and Angel do...sex was out...ugh. Spuffy had some racy sex scenes Besides in the end of BtVS...I believed Buffy was in love with Spike. Joss confirmed that...he said as soon as Spike and Buffy's hand clasp she was in love with Spike.
Honestly... the only reason I like Spuffy is because I love Spike and Spike loves Buffy and I want him to be happy. If him and Faith got together, it'd be much better because I actually LIKE her character. No offence to SMG, but Buffy pisses me off.
@Buffy4SpikeFan There are a lot of both but i think BA fans are also David Boreanaz fans and he's had a new show and new love Bones for 7 years now.Whereas SB fans are James fan and well......Some one needs to give this Truly Amazing man his own show :) But in the end she did not end up with either. Angel and Spike were left standing side by side in that ally and she was doing the immortal another vampire the girl is a slow learner, Buffy The Vampire LAYER lol
Oh James....you are so wrong! They butchered Spike on Angel.....there's no way Buffy should have ended up with Angel...unless Spike grew a pair and realized that she wasn't good enough for him!
Again, wrong. DB and SMG have both said in interviews how remarkable it was that they worked together so much for so many years and hours and *never* argued. They were very protective of each other.
it really doesn't matter...Personally I dislike buffy's character altogether. Spike and Angel should just find other people. Too much drama on Buffy haha.
No, SMG never had anything but lovely things to say about B/A and Angel/DB. All the way up to season 7. I have a million quotes I could list to show her love for B/A This stuff about her and DB fighting is totally made up bs. In season 3 she even thanks him at some awards show and talks about how she misses him already - calls DB her own Angel. SMG's love for B/A is well documented and steadfast. As is Joss. And DB's. Heck even JM believes Buffy should choose Angel.
It was always Buffy and Angel right from the beginning!! James is exactly right!! If u watch both Buffy and Angel even though they may have had other relationships or feelings for other people they never really loved any of them and never said it either!! Angel and Buffy would have ended up 2gether because they loved each other so much!!
Sorry, SMG never said anything of the kind. In fact, after Chosen aired, she said that she definitely believes that Buffy loves Spike but wasn't IN love with him. She has always been very pro B/A, though respectful of Spuffy.
Yeah James is B/A fan, i love him even more!!! We all know her heart belongs to Angel since she was sixteen, at the end i'm sure they found their way back to each other, like Joss said their relationship transcends everything.
Spike is my favorite character, but he's right. Buffy doesn't love Spike. Spike is supposed to be the character that writes poetry and has the unrequited love. poor spike. ):
There was one line were Buffy say,"Why does everyone think I'm STILL in love with Spike!" I think deep down she loved Spike but he made her feel emotionally out of control and being the slayer she's needed to be in control.
Joss Whedon ships Bangel over Spuffy Sarah Michelle Gellar really ships Bangel over Spuffy David Boreanaz ships Bangel over Cangel Depends on which writers they are. Sometimes Bangel and sometimes Spuffy Buffy Summers ships Bangel the most. BTW Spuffy broke up in the comics ; )
it really doesn't matter...Personally I dislike buffy's character altogether. Spike and Angel should just find other people. Too much drama on Buffy haha.
James seems like he would be so cool to just hang out with. And I love that at the fan stuff he really just talks like this, so casually with everyone, while sitting on a table. :)

Oh my goodness, I can't express how much I love this guy :)
If i'm gonna be true to what the writers were trying to accomplish, Angel....
In my own heart... DEFINTELY ME!!!
Haha! I love James... =D
And season 6 is my favorite.
@FaithTheSpikelover Yeah...and that "first love" was a teenage love that she idolized. I believe she would always have feelings of love for Angel...but Spike is the one for her. I love how easy going he is!
I feel like they should get him on American Horror Story...
He would be absoulutly amazing
he's adorable!!
Love it. He is SO right - B/A forever. Also love his comments about the last 2 seasons vs the earlier seasons. Thanks for this.

SHE SHOULD CHOOSE SPIKE HE'S WAY COOLER THAN ANGEL IN MANY WAYS ANGELS JUST A BIG DRAMA QUEEN!!!!
Lol he's so excited... and its weird how he's as old as my dad and looks like he's in his 20's lol
It was in my 15th birthday. Best gift ever.
If the only options were Angel and Spike, I'd say Spike, considering the trials he goes through... but to be honest, I wouldn't have her end up with either vampire. I heard that too. Sarah and James were closer because they got along. David and Sarah actually kept getting into fights close to the end of season 3.
Buffy should get together with Angel so Spike can be mine!!
My favorite season is 5-7:-)
Really. I actually heard from another saying she wasn't a fan with B/A because of season 3. She said, Buffy would always love Angel but not the same. Thank you, James. Finally an honest answer to this never ending debate. Just because the Spuffies are legion does not make them right.
Was James even concious for Season 7?!

In my heart ..she said it..he's in my heart...you are in mine too. You were a nicer vampire than that Angelus guy.....
I couldn't agree more!! :D
Even James and says Buffy and Angel! Yes! `I love B/A!
SPIKE & BUFFY!!!
I've always said this
As a human Liam was a idiot and a bit of a dick.
As Angelus he was vicious with no trace of humanity
As a human William was a kind hopeless romantic
As a vampire he was bad but parts of William survived.
In the end despite being a vampire buffy treated spike as a man.
And spike loved Buffy even without a soul.
Spike even tried to do good without a soul.
Angelus Carried on being vicious.
Spike was the better fit. Would always be by her side treating her as a equal. To be friend and lover.
Though many people do support Buffy and angel
I think they were first loves.
Plus with the whole angle being twilight thingy during season8 yeah I don't see things really working well between those two inless angle does bring giles back
Exactly.
She would have gone for angel, but Spike would still be the better, and sexier man/vampire.
i didn't know that tara and willow made history, man allyson hannigan must feel like a god
Cool to see he said Buffy and Angel.
too true
part2: At the Tea, James was again talking about Spike being the bad boy & that in real life bad boys are dangerous, & about the AR and that it was needed to show that Spike was still evil. i agree!!!!!!!!
I don't know if I agree with him. I liked how serious it became. The issues and battles had to get bigger than they were in previous seasons.
Well according to JM...it would have been Spike...but the writers would have chosen Angel. I don't think the writers would have gone the Angel way...but might have because Spike was more popular than Angel. Besides what could Buffy and Angel do...sex was out...ugh. Oh yes. I know you wrote this years ago, but agree 100%.
@Buffy4SpikeFan There are a lot of both but i think BA fans are also David Boreanaz fans and he's had a new show and new love Bones for 7 years now.Whereas SB fans are James fan and well......Some one needs to give this Truly Amazing man his own show :)
But in the end she did not end up with either. Angel and Spike were left standing side by side in that ally and she was doing the immortal another vampire the girl is a slow learner, Buffy The Vampire LAYER lol
Is it just me or does he look like Mr. Rogers in that outfit?! LOL!!:)
read the comics its a spuffy ending
Oh James....you are so wrong! They butchered Spike on Angel.....there's no way Buffy should have ended up with Angel...unless Spike grew a pair and realized that she wasn't good enough for him!
@TheTimelordLover , no comments are hidden on my vids.
Again, wrong. DB and SMG have both said in interviews how remarkable it was that they worked together so much for so many years and hours and *never* argued. They were very protective of each other.
Lol I think she would have gone for Angel too
@GreatOne2033 or, um Spike and Angel should just find each other... ;o)
it really doesn't matter...Personally I dislike buffy's character altogether. Spike and Angel should just find other people. Too much drama on Buffy haha.

In fact, after Chosen aired, she said that she definitely believes that Buffy loves Spike but wasn't IN love with him. She has always been very pro B/A, though respectful of Spuffy.
:D
Love spike JM is so right Buffy And Angel Always :D
Spike and Angel should go gay =O
Yeah James is B/A fan, i love him even more!!!
We all know her heart belongs to Angel since she was sixteen, at the end i'm sure they found their way back to each other, like Joss said their relationship transcends everything.
Lol people does it really matter? Personally, i dislike the character buffy. Spike and Angel both can do better hahaha.
Spike is my favorite character, but he's right. Buffy doesn't love Spike. Spike is supposed to be the character that writes poetry and has the unrequited love. poor spike. ):
There was one line were Buffy say,"Why does everyone think I'm STILL in love with Spike!"
I think deep down she loved Spike but he made her feel emotionally out of control and being the slayer she's needed to be in control.
Joss Whedon ships Bangel over Spuffy
Sarah Michelle Gellar really ships Bangel over Spuffy
David Boreanaz ships Bangel over Cangel
Depends on which writers they are. Sometimes Bangel and sometimes Spuffy
Buffy Summers ships Bangel the most.
BTW Spuffy broke up in the comics ; )
it really doesn't matter...Personally I dislike buffy's character altogether. Spike and Angel should just find other people. Too much drama on Buffy haha.
