- I accidentally uploaded wrong file. This one is OK.
I bought my grail fountain pen - Nakaya Dorsal Fin version 2 in Aka-tamenuri urushi. And I wanted to share it with you in a form of a review, but as usual - review focusing on urushi aspect of the pen.
I bought this pen at P. W. Akkerman www.vulpennen.nl/

I'm Michal and I'm a fountain pen addict and I lacquer pens with urushi lacquer. On my channel, you fill wind tutorials, videos from my urushi workshop, presentation of techniques, tools and materials used in urushi craft. I am also showing pens lacquered by me and other artists. I review pens but mostly urushi and I focus on this aspect of pen, not usual build, nibs and writing performance.
I am self-taught in this craft, most I know I do I learned from my own experience, trial and error. A lot of them. But also from Japanese books, and videos on urushi.
Most pens I show are for sale, and the best way to buy them is to check out my Instagram and send me a message there.
From the photos I always thought this was way overpriced but no, you can see the workmanship that goes into this incredible pen.
After seeing your video a few months ago, I placed my order. I got mine yesterday and it might be the new favorite out of all my Nakaya pens. I haven’t been able to stopped fawning over it.
Good choice!
Congratulations on your new pen and great review!
On the box it says on japanese: "For your hand only"
Wow thank you!!!!! It is a sentence Nakaya uses from beginning! I
@@TamenuriStudio to be precise, the literal meaning of the writing in the center is actually "Special made fountain pen" and the writing on the button left says "Nakata's solemnly made".
It might allude the meaning of "for your hands only" as for its bespoke nature.
This Narayan design is on my grail list. Lovely to see your review!
Really beautiful pen!
Stunning pen! I bet you spent lot of time just watching it.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching it.
Ohh I did ;) and i still do this ;) thank you
Great video. Thanks Michael.
Thank you. This time more of pen less of my face ;)
Your own interpretation of dorsal fin? Cause I’d love to see it in, say teal grey, and if I want to dry brushing on a half cured kijomi urushi, are there any paints that would be safe for that, would miniature colors do?
Dry brushing on half cured kijomi? Hmm interesting idea. But no idea what paints would be compatible. Probably same pigments I use for colour urushi.
Thats a beautiful pen. The akkermann bottles are really cool, I wish some shops were selling the empty bottles.
Yes, the bottle is fantastic. I would buy those inks just for bottle, but some of them are realy good (made by Diamine). I have 4, including one from Dutch Masters series - 120ml ;)
Beautiful pen. I'm about to dive into getting my first Japanese pen, and I'm considering a Namiki Nippon Art pen, and flirting with the idea of getting the Dorsal Fin II.
I'm probably not ready to drop a few Gs on a fountain pen just yet. Need to wait a few years or more to get a grail pen.
Is it inspired by the samurai's dagger (Tanto)? Saluti dall'Italia!
Yes, it is possible ;)
would you ever attempt something like building up the fins on your own?
I don’t know. I might try. To be frank - it is not difficult, it just takes long time.
Nice video. It's my grail pen too. Contemplating Nakaya Dorsal Fin Version 2 Ishime-Kanshitsu Aka-tamenuri. Incidentally, 特製(pronounced as toku-sei meaning specially made) 万年筆(pronounced as man-nen-hitsu meaning fountain pen)
Thank you for this transaltion. Ishime-kanshitsu aka-tamenuri is really nice. Right now I'm starting an ishime-kanshitsu on two pens, and Nakaya is my reference for this ;)
Kształt w pewnym momencie jak miecz samurajski
Tak!!
J'ai le même en noir laqué
