NAKAYA. NAH-KAH-YAH. See all those "a's?" They're all pronounced the same. Now... to watch the rest of your review of my favorite pen brand. (Had to get the pronunciation out of the way.) EDIT: I'm about half-way through, and your review reinforces why I appreciate my Piccolos so much. The pens are individually made, and when you think about it... the price isn't so crazy when compared to major pen brands' flagship pens. The other reason I love Nakaya pens so much is the urushi, the tamenuri finishes--gorgeous. (My dirty little secret is that my favorite nib is a Pilot PO.)
this isn't a pronounciation or pilot video, why don't you make your own video so you can drown in your ego instead of lecturing figboot on how he should talk
feanaaro....the uploader gets criticized for everything from his pronounciation to the way he writes and i think it's really pathetic that you guys completely ignore the fact that he puts a lot of effort into making these videos as professional and as detailed as possible it's jackasses like you and loser miyako that actually think you're paying david's salary seriously, if you used the word cromulent in real life you'd get your ass kicked or at the very least you'd be laughed out of the room but you're probably going to comeback and say "but i own a visconti opera master london fog so respect me yeah!"
The most expensive pen I own was about $170, so no Opera Master for me. To me, you seem entirely misguided in your rage, but to each one their own I guess.
As well as the pen itself, this review seems also a piece of art. I can see the amount of study and effort you invested to review the pen. Thank you so much for this great video. ♡
Nice pen for your 100th review! ditto on all the other's congratulations -- and I hope you create many more. Like David L., I'll never own and will probably never actually hold such a pen, but I quite enjoy your enjoyment of it. Watching your review of it is somewhat akin to visiting a high-end museum of art. Functional art. I can, at least, do that much. :D THANKS
A Nakaya is on my list. I don't really care for the Dorsal Fin (sorry), but the Decapod Twist is what I'm looking at. I'm saving for it by not buying other pens. Last time I saved for a Nakaya, I got there and couldn't bring myself to spend the money. It may happen again, but videos like yours are going to make it difficult to not buy it. You really did justice to the artistry and beauty that goes into these pens. The edges, as you say, are exactly why I love the looks of the Decapod Twist. This would definitely be a pen that would never leave the house!
P.S. The Dorsal Fin 2 is gorgeous. The aka-tamenuri is gorgeous. And I can attest that these pens are robust. I haven't broken one yet. (I haven't tried, but I've been clumsy, and so far, so good. I've been pleasantly surprised. And relieved. Although, I have heard of at least one person whose pen rolled off a table and the cap broke. Because each pen is handmade, a new cap wasn't an option, but Nakaya fixed the cap and wrapped it with string, and the owner was more pleased with the pen after that.)
Congratulations on the 100th review! That is a well chosen pen. I honestly do not think that I could afford one of those, so I believe that I will be watching this multiple times to keep admiring its beauty! Thank you for the excellent reviews!
Wonderful review. It may be old, but still informative. The Dorsal Fin v2 is one of my Grail pens and I finally have one on back order though the Heki-Tamenuri color combination.
Thanks, Anzan. I can't speak for everyone, but I very much appreciate knowing the proper pronunciation on these things. Without your help (and others) I would absolutely butcher it. That said, it never bothers me if/when a reviewer struggles with the pronunciations (and I appreciate folks like David who are honest in their attempts!) -- let's just say that I understand the quandary! Besides, your comments are always friendly ones!
this is my imitation of you....oh thank you so much figboot for doing this video, however it's my job to point out how you should speak so do things my way if you still want a job on youtube doing fountain pen reviews, i'm not pretentious i swear!
I sure wish I had $1300 to lay down for this pen! It's a stunner. Your review really showed off the shading of the Urushii. I love the shape of it as well. I'd get it with a BB nib,, myself.
Happy 100th David! You have the best reviews on RUclips. Keep up the great work. We are all very appreciative you take the time and effort to put these up. Oh and 1 sailor, 2 sailor, 3 sailor because of the nibs. I do love the look of the urushi lacquer.
Gorgeous! What an amazing display of craftsmanship and artist taste. I'll gladly support this company and their ideologies when (if) I can afford it. For now though, I'll make do with my Platinum Plaisir, haha. Sighs wistfully.
Hi david, I subscribed to your channel recently and have been binge watching your videos. Did you order your pen from www.nakaya.org/en/order_form.aspx ? It looks like even the dorsonfin 1 is not available. A question I have is that when you ordered, do they allow nibs adjustment requests like wetness etc? I bought a 3776 UEF that is too dry writing and ended up having to adjust it, but I don't want to test my luck on such an expensive pen. Thanks
After a couple of years, I finally got my paws on a Dorsal Fin. Everything they say is true. What they don't say is that sunlight really affects the pen.
It reminds me of a Canoe. I love how it looks. But seeing how carefull I am with my MontBlanc 149, I would be too carefull with this one to actually use it.
My grail pen is a Decapod Twist, but I’ve always wondered if the step on it would be too steep for me. I found the VAC700’s step to be too uncomfortable to use, and wondered what the step on the decapod twist is like in terms of how steep it is and how it’s positioned on the pen.
The step-down on the Decapod Twist is slightly more than that of the Vac700. I personally find the section to be long enough that I don't rest my fingers on the transition...but your mileage may vary.
While I generally prefer pilot and sailor to platinum, Nakaya really blows them all out of the water when it comes to higher end pens. And while Namiki is very good, I prefer the interesting ways that Nakaya works with Urushi over Namiki's signature Maki-e.
The socks with slippers is very common in traditional japanese wear. You'll see it all the time if you go to Japan and I think it looks good. Sometimes a lot better than seeing someones nasty corned feet and nails.
figboot does an excellent job making a 20 minute video about a functional piece of art that cost $1300 and even had his rubik's cubes set up to match the pen but people lecture him on how he should speak while giving backhanded compliments, sad

I know you are, but what I am?!
(No, you are. No. No, no, no. You are. No, YOU are.)
She may be right or wrong, but either way the pronunciation of a name is a perfectly cromulent topic
feanaaro....the uploader gets criticized for everything from his pronounciation to the way he writes and i think it's really pathetic that you guys completely ignore the fact that he puts a lot of effort into making these videos as professional and as detailed as possible

Proud to say I've watched them all the day they upload! Keep it up man!
Congratulations on 100! What a beautiful pen and an apt description - a work of art. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Like the idea that it's a piece of art that you interact with. Very cool perspective

Thank you, David. Happy 100th. Na-Ka-Ya. Equal stress on syllables in Japanese.

Thank you David for showing us some beautiful art. I appreciate your contribution. Happy hundred....

Thank you David and congrats on you 100th fountain pen review!
Hello, thanks for the review. Do you recommend the Dorsal Fin V2 for long periods of writing? how it feels in hand?
Gorgeous piece of art, and a very nice review. Thank you!
Beautiful piece of art! The Nakaya is one of the pens I hope to be able to get someday! Great review as always!
I've never said Only 1300? in regards to a pen before but Only 1300?
Also that converter is awesome. I'll have to paint up some of mine.
Gorgeous! What an amazing display of craftsmanship and artist taste. I'll gladly support this company and their ideologies when (if) I can afford it. For now though, I'll make do with my Platinum Plaisir, haha. Sighs wistfully.
Congrats for hitting a century!!

Excellent information about an artwork. Thank you David!
Congrats on your 100th review.
David is it...
1st - Pilot
2nd - Sailor
3rd - Platinum?
For me, it's:
Sailor
Pilot
Platinum
Figboot on Pens Namiki or Nakaya? Namiki or Montblanc?
Thanks for the review, I have been waiting for this video from you!
That is beautiful, still waiting for mine.
After a couple of years, I finally got my paws on a Dorsal Fin. Everything they say is true.

I lust for that pen!
Congrats. Thats a gorgeous pen.

Figboot on Pens As I feared 😭 thanks!
Quite the looker thank you for sharing it splendid
I was passing by Ginza Tokyo Nakaya Store last year when I was there and I did not get in lol, oh well there is always next time.
Gorgeous pen, David. I'd love a Nakaya, but Platinum nibs (a terrible waste of perfectly good gold) are a dealbreaker for me. Thanks for sharing.
I'm not sure who told you it was pronounced Na-ki-ya, but the correct pronunciation is na-ka-ya.
ive just subscribed to a few pen catalogs ..im uppng my game
While I generally prefer pilot and sailor to platinum, Nakaya really blows them all out of the water when it comes to higher end pens. And while Namiki is very good, I prefer the interesting ways that Nakaya works with Urushi over Namiki's signature Maki-e.
So, who is Platinum then? Beatles, Stones or The Who ... ??
For me...The Stones. I've always been a Who guy.
How long do you wait for it ?
The socks with slippers is very common in traditional japanese wear. You'll see it all the time if you go to Japan and I think it looks good. Sometimes a lot better than seeing someones nasty corned feet and nails.
Beautiful pen
All "a" in Japanese pronounce the same (a long "ah"). Congrats on the 100th!
Brilliant!
If I may, what's the price on that twist
850
Took me a while to even spend $300... $1300 I better be earning 4x what I am now. 😂
So, where's the giveaway?
I knew I forgot something!
Yeah the pen is nice, but the Nib is a cheapo and the platinum converter with few painted fishes XDXDXDXD a complete turn of. Sorry just my opinion.
I hope I win this giveaway!!! ;) haha
06:44 and onwards- are you on "something" or just anxious?
Rank The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who? EASY!
The Who
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
For me, it's:
The Who
The Beatles
The Stones

No, YOU're sad.
No, YOU are.
LaughingOutLoudInMyHead
As for figboot's pronunciation, did you miss the part where he expressed confusion about it?
You're also funny. Thanks for the laughs. Great way to start the day. Woo-hoo!
@Bieber Ninja
You totally broke Lisa Miyako's brain, lmfao.
Oh, you kids today. Need to be spoonfed everything....
Carry on.
Lisa look at your messages. It is YOU who is the immature child having a temper tantrum. You probably don't even own a fountain pen.
