- "PUMPED' is a 13 minute insight into the Surf Lakes R&D facility near Yeppoon in Queensland, Australia.
After making waves for a couple of year and the constant process of testing and refining them, In August 2020 we gathered a slew of Australia's best surfers (in a Covid safe manner of course!) to ride the new set up and share their honest & unbridled opinions and feedback.

Urbnsurf is much better and allready open...its in Melbourne but there one going in Sydney and an even better version eventually going to Brisbane.
Hopefully they get the same ideas in the uk !

This pool is by far the most practical design. The energy/opportunity is paramount compared to other pools.
10 minutes from home, I drive past it every day, keep at it boys and gals, this is awesome! Can't wait to visit one day when it opens up.

ebswift nah unfortunately not, have surfed with Occy down at Burleigh, Kirra and Snapper a thousand times since the late 80’s early 90’s but he wouldn’t know me, to be honest he’s one of the biggest dickheads in the water, even 25-30 years ago when there wasn’t much of a crowd. Bloody god project he has on his hands now tho

By far the best pool design. The amount waves available at once is amazing. Makes Kelly Slater’s place seem redundant...

I dont know ur physical abilities but if they are limitted Get a body board and have at it...stretch first....dont have to drop in at the peek...🤙
@@abab-ml1ym yeah, I used to surf and body board back in the 70's and 80's but I've had 3 shoulder operations in the past 4 years so I think that kind of stuff is over for me. Great way to strengthen the old shoulder and back muscles though. Of course, then there's covid and when you live in the city that holds the world record for lockdowns there's not much of anything we can do atm

For Christmas, I want a wave park that has all the different pools, Kellys, PSSC, BSR, and a supersized version of this that can do Pipe sized waves as the main attraction.

Seems more efficient than any other mechanically made wave yet. Looks like different levels of surfers can all surf at the same time as opposed to booking different sessions for novice, intermediate and pro-level waves. Best of luck on selling this technology worldwide.

I remember first seeing this a year or 2 ago and not quite dissing it but saying if only they could crank it up to shoulder/head high it would be sick....well that day has arrived.
Monumental day for articial waves and such a unique design.compares to the surf ranch in a lot of ways.

Occy's slab reminded me of South Stradbroke Is. at low tide. Or my old stomping' ground Burleigh Point at low tide. Very sucky, hollow and some danger.

We're working on them.... but I don't recall the Broken Hill conversation happening just yet!! Hahaha
mate I submitted this idea to Logan city council here in SEQld, when they were calling for expressions of interest of what residents wanted done with the local park (conveniently across the road from my house). They opted to upgrade the skate park instead, and put up more swings. cheap bastards lol . perfect site right on the Logan river, lots unused land just off the M1 freeway between brisso and the Goldy. Ultimately its the city councils who have the land and machinery to build these . they do public golf courses, swimming pools, skateparks why not wavepools..just a matter of time I reckon.

What I like is this Queensland one looks like a beach/ natural environment. To me the one near the Melbourne airport looks like an Olympic pool. As a mid 60s old bloke, I like the idea of no rips to paddle against. 3/4 of a day drive away. Hope this opens soon for Joe Public. Top effort by the Queensland engineers behind it.

Amazing engineering achievement. They must have experimented with many types and angles of ledges. Slabs or gentle breakers.
I created it when i was a child trowing big rocks in the water to make a wave.....i was born gifted.
Amazing!! Best wave pool ever. Regarding the wave mechanics I thinks this wave pool meets probably almost all the elements like an ocean wave. Anyone know the time between sets and the ammount of energy neccesary to make it?
We'll be aiming for sets approx. every 60 secs and as for the energy.... not my department I'm afraid. We're looking at renewable sources for commercial models though so hopefully cleeeeean and greeeeen!

Who else starts to wonder how much bigger the waves in a pool could get?
Not that I am complaining or dissing it.
I could surf that pool for the rest of my life and never utter a bad word about it.
It's just that it is so good, and such a simple and ingenious idea, that I cannot help but wonder how far it could be pushed.
Is it possible that we may see solid 5-6ft {10-12} stand up straight, hands in the air barrels in a pool one day?
That slab almost needs to be ridden like the Box. Take off behind the peak or get pitched hard. Sickest pool out there for sure

How do they deal with the backwash issue? Seems like after a few waves the entire pool would turn choppy from bounce backs off the "beach." Do they have to pause to let it settle?

gawd Occy really does have nine lives,............stoked for him, surfing with his kids and still getting barreled, I don't know how many of his peers can say that, one or the other but probably not both. It's a trip too to see the different wave pool technologies, this one is like a true surf park, I wonder how much it costs, it sounds like Kelly's and Waco are expensive and you pay per ride? not sure

I know a few credited surf photographers who would love to be able to come up to shoot, not just members of the public photographers, but bloody hard to get in to shoot such a great setup.
