- Super 8, so grainy some TV channels used the City Sickness video with this song. My favourite tindersticks film. Our second with Martin Wallace. Features Matt, our then tour manager, merchandise chap, and Ilona, who we knew from the Rough Trade shop. Also features Stuart's daughter, Sidonie again, now up on her feet. The middle eight pub scene was great fun, putting the band together from friends, getting our promoter Big Ray, to DJ. Dickon's brother plays bass. None of us appear in the film. And the end result is a joy every time I see it.
A wonderful song, with an astonishing musical arrangement. Heartbreaking.
There are places I don't remember
There are times and days, they mean nothing to me
I've been looking through some of them old pictures
They don't serve to jog my memory
I'm not waking in the morning, staring at the walls these days
I'm not getting out the boxes, spread all over the floor
I've been looking through some of them old pictures
Those faces they mean nothing to me no more
I travel light
You travel light
Everything I've done
You say you can justify, mmm you travel light
I can't pick them out, I can't put them in these sad old bags
Some things you have to lose along the way
Times are hard, I'll only pick them out, wish I was going back
Times are good, you'll be glad you ran away
I travel light
You travel light
Everything I've done
You say you can justify, mmm you travel light
Do you remember, how much you loved me?
You say you have no room in that thick old head
Well it comes with the hurt and the guilt, and the memories
If I had to take them with me I would never get from my bed
There's a crack in the roof where the rain pours through
That's the place you always decide to sit
Yeah I know I'm there for hours, the water running down (my) (your)face
Do you really think you keep it all that well hid?
No but I travel light
You don't travel light
Everything I've done
It's just a lie, you don't travel light
I'm travelling light
No you don't travel light
I'm travelling light
No, no, you don't travel light
I'm travelling light
You don't travel light
Every big or small change in my life starts with this song, for me this song is my anthem.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Full of human yearning and melancholy.
still gives me goosebumps after all this time...
For me this is one of the saddest songs ever, at the same time that's utterly beautiful!!
Takes me back. Used to see that girl on my bus up Brixton hill in the 90s and she worked in rough trade covent garden. She was far too cool for me to ever speak to.
Nothing to lose bud
Why is this not more widely recognised as the classic it is?
I love this song. I love how the female voice is beautiful and gentle but her words are so scathing. "Do you really think you keep it that well hid? No, but I travel light. You don't travel light!"
Still an utterly stunning song. 🙌🏼❤️🔥🥰
There was a time when this video and song meant so much to me. It still does. I’m so glad this is free for people to watch. Completely beautiful. Thanks to everyone involved in making this.
I was lucky enough to see them doing Tindersticks 2, at the Barbican in its entirety and it was amazing, except they had nobody female to sing the response bits for this song, You need that Lee and Nancy sound, surely?
There's a dog you won't see these daze.
i can remember this playing on the radio and ordering from the local independent record shop. not just one of the greatest songs of the nineties but any decade. a beautiful little treasure.
I bought an issue of CMJ New Music Monthly, and this was one of the tracks on the CD.
Used to play on Mark and Lards late night show in Radio 1 if my memory serves me right.
Ridiculous view count. I'ts a wonderful song. Thumbs up boys and girls.x Let's do it......
an homage to lee and nancy par excellence. my fave tindersticks tune... along with marbles and city sickness, here, etc, etc! (here- is a pavement tune, before you ping me- you pedants)
TIndersticks... beautifully subtle as always. All first three albums are great treasures to own.
j'aime cette chanson plus que de raison
@MrMarmeladeSky This got voted as top 5 most heart wrenching lyric in the Irish times last week. It's not sad though, its just really really human.
This is profoundly good - I absolutely love the couple, so sweet. She is so pretty and he is so supportive, it's just good. This is a brilliant song. I keep coming back to this video, it is so sweet, I love it.
Could never find this tune to buy in the pre-get everything on the internet days. Asked my local music shops and they never had Tindersticks (never thought to ask them to order). Ended up getting it on Napster back in the day. Listened to it first on Mark and Lards late night radio 1 show. Used to love that.
I can't really add to this, I'm 41 but this video destroys me every time, I absolutely love the words and the sweet couple.
You are nice
Perfecto👌
more from the nancy and lee school of brooding male vocal and wry and infuriated female response.
So sad, so utterly sad.
Hauntingly beautiful. I come back to this so often
Never thought id be listening to this wonderful song .. whilst mourning - ha ...
you love tindersticks? like i do
then also listen to the flaming lips, blicklicht, ryan bingham and momord and sons...and don´t forget stuart a Stapels solo music........
@MrShuggieTodd me too, same period, just laying and listening, we were a lost and found
My favourite ... means so many things to me, good, bad and everything in between
Las imagenes son de alguna pelicula o son solo del video de esta cancion?
Great song I listen to since about the time they sang it first time. Every time I see this clip but, I think how royalty live in palaces and make people living like in this clip, admire them for nothing but being royalty.
Cormac Dineen. No Disco. Thank you.
I love this video, it's such a British couple sort of thing, about being young and together in London in a tiny flat, and Ilona is gorgeous.
Love this song. #TravelingLight today.
I want someone to play this at my funeral.
Verry Good Music of the Travelling Light [Tindersticks] is my favourite songs and ai Plaing ever Day
I am married 22 years now and this is 'our' song. It still is and we listened to it again this morning and again we were moved by the lyrics en overall beauty of this song!

@maclennan73 dont know, wat did he say? i missed that part. if he sledged tindersticks he dies- and im a madness record owner from way back. (notice i baulked at saying 'fan')
@w3tro what the hell does suggs know about anything? Unfortunately people listen to him.
could somebody explain the meaning of "travelling light" or the term "to travel light" to me (non-native speaker)? thx
I believe the meaning is that he claims he has 'no baggage' (You can google this). She's telling him that he has unresolved issues in his past and that's making their relationship difficult.
@@99Nars thank you ...that also coincides with my assumptions. We all sometimes fall into the illusion that we can leave stressful luggage behind on our travels through the years, but that only works in the rarest of cases, as I think. When traveling with only light hand luggage, that, what defines us all as human beings (all the past, all that we once loved and that which also caused pain and "enriches" our souls) remains behind. As we're all no flash in the pan - we don't travel light - and well, that's a good thing. I've always loved this song ... my favorite on this album ...thx .)
Canınızı yediğim :)
a neam pojma.
OM MANI PADME HUM
❤️
Im here cos of bbc radio 6 😍
The only radio station worth listening to, especially when Tom Ravenscroft is on!
Tindersticks were good , damn good. But The Bathers were better.........
