    In this lesson, we will continue the discussion on the topic of motion control.
    All of us at RealPars, hope you have been following our previous lessons on motion control and have begun to benefit from these lessons.
    Now that we have learned about motion control motors, we can begin to explore some advantages and disadvantages when selecting, primarily between, the Servo Motor and Stepper Motor.
    In this lesson, we discuss Servo Motor Advantages and Disadvantages when compared to Stepper Motors.

      @@realpars Hi real pars, nowadays i'm getting confused because there are stepper motors with encoder built in or feedback, and that makes them closed loop, so how does it fare with servo with feedback other than the speed-torque ratio? and can't stepper use PID control?
      And also hobby servo motors have potentiometer built in, but that doesn't make them close loop or it can't tell me it's position, so where does the difference between professional servo motor and hobby servo motor lies? Hobby servos makes me crazy, so many questions.
      Sorry for such a simple question on a professional channel

    If the Torque decreases by speed that leads to probably of more slipping and the the motor losses the accurate position ? i mean the motor will be weak and not heavy and able to resist any external pushing ? or if more speed is increasing and leads torque decreasing that makes the motor not stopping at exact position and could be slipping a few millimeters. ?

    • @wgastreich
      @wgastreich 3 года назад +1

      Hello Wadi B3eed, Yes this is possible if the servo is not sized correctly for the application. It’s important to remember when sizing the motor to load requirements. When using servo sizing software, the calculations take into consideration your speed | torque performance requirements for torque control. Please listen to again at 6:27 Torque control, servo controllers using torque parameters. Please listen to the video at 8:06 discussing servo error control that is used for torque, velocity, and/or position, and also we discuss how servos provide error fault limit control. I hope this helps and thank you for the very good question.

    Sir how to increase speed of servo motor.?.it is possible to adjust speed the servo drive

    • @realpars
      @realpars  4 года назад

      Servo drives are controlled by a hardware "box" or "card" which usually is configured by attaching a PC to the drive interface. In that configuration are settings that limit speed, control direction, etc. Also, every servo motor has a rated speed, which is the maximum speed at which it can run. You will need to investigate these parameters and figure out if the speed at which you would like to run is supported by the hardware and controller. The servo speed may be able to be changed via the software that is used to configure the drive.

    You can use an encoder with a stepper for feedback. We have them on the lead screws for our cnc. The counts per rotation are matched with the micro steps to get spot on feedback. The stepper also has better holding torque, so it really is a matter of application. Drive tuning is done by engineers most of the time, and most manufacturers so have software for tuning. Again application will dictate how involved the drive tuning will be. Technicians just need to know how to hook up a drive, the program can just be downloaded on any newer drives.

      so it becomes servo motor and then the advantage of stepper motor is gone

    • @BPo75
      @BPo75 19 дней назад

      @@lanchanoinguyen2914 Controlling the position of a stepper motor is still a lot simpler, and Arduino-board is enough to get the job done.
      Whether to use a stepper motor or some other type is more a question of of the task. For low-speed operations, there is little to challenge the stepper motor.

    What about closed loop stepper motors? They have same advantages as standard steppers plus they don't loose steps, driver automatically regulate current according to the load and can overload motor for a short time if needed, which makes possible higher speeds and accelerations. It seems like the only disadvantage compared to the brushless motor is 3 times lower max RPM.

    • @EmilNicolaiePerhinschi
      @EmilNicolaiePerhinschi 3 года назад +2

      "the only disadvantage" ... I think noise is higher too, and acceleration lower if that's important

    Wouldn't high torque industrial usecases use hydraulics anyway?

    • @realpars
      @realpars  4 года назад

      There are high-torque stepper and servo motors available for use with robots that lift things and conveyor systems. Hydraulics can generate a lot more force, but it is hard to control hydraulic motors with the precision of stepper or servo motors. In most of the hydraulic applications I have done in the past, travel of pistons, etc., were controlled by hitting a limit switch at the end of travel.

    • @Spirit532

      @@realpars One outlier is the optics industry in this case. There are hydraulic-driven linear actuators with nanometer-precision glass scales on them. Since the fluids are incompressible, you get rock-solid, zero-backlash positioning with gigantic forces. The downside is cost.
      This is why optical grinders, for example, cost an arm and a leg :P
