Personally like endings like this where even though the main cast THROWS EVERYTHING at the force to win, it's to late. And in that loss they truly have to FIGHT not with 100 percent but, instead a million percent with every single fiber of their being, from physical, to spiritually. Vekna was right they lost the battle, but they can still win the war.
This is the best part of a story. It takes everyone to stand, not just our heroes but earth itself to repel this cancer that has come her way. For the fallen of course, but so much more for the living.
