I have had the pleasure of meeting Ernie Ladd at DFW waiting on a flight back to Lafayette. He was one of the kindest and very gracious people to talk with.
Ernie Ladd was one of greatest heels of all time. He could do it all in the business. Ernie Ladd had a very unique understanding of professional wrestling. He was way ahead of his time.
Ernie was on the sidelines for the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl win over the Minnesota Vikings in January of 1970. He played for the Chiefs earlier that season and injured his knee to the point where he couldn't perform. But he was given a Super Bowl ring when it was all over.

Big Cat was a big tough guy in the ring...but a really nice guy out of the ring. Met him about a year before he passed away outside of a Circle K gas station in south Louisiana. Spoke with him for a few minutes He was extremely gracious and didn't seem bothered by me walking up and talking to him. I made sure to tell him that watching him perform every Saturday on Mid-South Wrestling helped get me through the grieving process from the death of my father. He smiled, shook my hand and said "Thank you!" I believe that he felt a sense of gratitude. Great athlete and kind man.
I grew Up in St Louis and My Dad used to go to the matches at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel back then. He said Ernie the Cat Ladd was on eof the Best wrestlers that wrestled at the chase. he sued to talk about Fritz von erich and Bulldog Bob brown mixing it up. We stil have a poster from a match where Jonny Valiant I think Dad said had His eye popped out from a match there.
Ernie was an incredible heel. He had charisma, he was a tremendous athlete and influence on wrestling. Most importantly he was a very strong Christian man. He's with the ultimate ring master in Jesus.

Ernie "The Cat" Ladd was always a favourite when he would come to Big Time Wrestling at Cobo Hall in Detroit when I was a kid. He had the "it" factor.
I Remember those days at Cobo with the Sheik and Ernie and the Olympia with Dick the Bruiser and Bobo, What WARS they had!

Ernie Ladd used to wrestle here in ohio in the mid 70s for studio matches he was impressive even in studio matches
