I was at an arcade with this game in tow, and I ALWAYS wanted to play this game. When I look at this my suspicion was confirmed. Its basically a beat 'em up with Robocop in it. Data East at their best.
TRIVIA: -The mutant zombie enemies of Sector 3 would later be reused as the skeletal zombie enemies in Data East's arcade beat-'em-up, _Night Slashers_ , two years later. The Frankenstein's monster wannabe boss of _Night Slashers_ also uses more or less the same attacks as the Toxic Avenger-esque boss of Sector 3 as well. Both games also have the same music composers: Katsuya Kiuchi and Tomoyoshi Sato. -The Japanese version of the game exclusively lets you reenact the events of the first _RoboCop_ movie, some artistic liberties taken withstanding. Anyway, nice playthrough. I find it a little weird that the Player 1 RoboCop would be the incarnation from the first film, while Player 2 RoboCop would be the incarnation of the second film.
I will never understand why the movie gets so much hate. I absolutely love it - almost as much as the first. The special effects are absolutely amazing.
I like Robocop 2, but I can understand the hate. I think people don't like it because the story wasn't as good as the first one. Robocop had a clear character arc via regaining his humanity and a strong motivation for revenge after his brutal murder in the first one. In the second one, that arc and motivation was gone. So they didn't really have anywhere interesting to take his character and the film suffered as a result.
@@wordman3624 I think for me the problem was that it felt a lot more geared towards kids. Going for a PG13 rating instead of R like the first one really hurt it imo.
@@NintendoComplete I think you’re confusing 2 with the third movie. While not quite as violent and slam bang as the original, I do remember Siskel & Ebert lambasting RoboCop 2 for its mean-spirited tone.
I went to the movie theater alone to see this movie twice as a little kid, it's so ironically unfortunate that I'm now watching this hooked on opiate pain killers decades later, the "Nuke" always fascinated me......
I would assume that the same staff that worked on this game would go on to work on Data East's _Night Slashers_ two years later. I do know that both games share the same music composers: Katsuya Kiuchi and Tomoyoshi Sato.
You can really see the evolution from Data East's older arcade games to this game onwards, especially graphically and musically. Sector 3's music really reminds me of Captain America & The Avengers too! This game is also underrated as well.
Nice gameplay, a knowledge about this game, the japanese version, has the introduction level at the OCP where you fight the ED-301 and the last scene from the first movie.
Not bad a playthrough! Did ya know Robocop 2's arcade game in Japan has a prologue based on the end of the first movie? [equally as interesting as the NES Superman's Famicom counterpart having the movie soundtrack by John Williams as opposed to a Kemco JRPG's music]
I usually call these types of games "Narc-em-ups", based on the 1988 Midway game, NARC (which the desc mentions). And of course, the game company to come up with a game this wild was Data East. They just loved making games, no matter how good, bad, or crazy they were.
You may not have noticed, but RoboCop's sprite *ISN'T MIRRORED!* They actually drew both sides, including the Cain sprite too, which is how serious Data East took the RoboCop license.
This RoboCop 2 arcade game, from Data East U.S.A., plays similar to a beat em up/shoot em up, with Robocop having to kill all enemies before he can progress. When close to enemies, Robocop can punch and throw his foes. Different guns such as a rocket launcher can be found.
Did this have a limited release? I've never seen this and I've been to countless Pizza Huts and Chinese/Mexican restaurants with old arcade games. Most of what I've seen is Golden Axe, Street Fighter II, or a Neo-Geo machine with 1942/Metal Slug.

Am I the only one that wanted to hear Robocop say "Winners don't use drugs" out loud when the FBI message pops up?

10:14 Data East wanted an excuse to put in the Melting Man from the first Robocop movie, since they forgot to include him in their first game.

Such an interesting game. It's a beat-'em-up, but you just shoot (while occasionally you can punch and throw).

Too bad Data East never made a RoboCop 3 for arcades, since most of the games based on that movie are not good...
It’s just as well, since the movie itself sucked.

Is it just me or does the music in the final stage sound a lot like the music from _Captain America and the Avengers?_
