    I bought my ecr in 2015 and right away started my upgrades.
    Velocity blunt 35
    Chris king hubs
    Dt spokes
    Maxxis chronicle tires
    Shimano XT m8000 breaks
    Thomson seat post
    45 north helva pedels
    Shimano ice tech rotors
    Answer pro taper 810 riser bars
    shimano XT shifters
    Odi lock on grips
    And a down sized chainring to the surly SS 30t
    Everything has been changed except the crank it’s self. During the summer I run maxxis hookworms and winter chronicles. Been around the world and back on this bike.

      How are hookworms to run? I have a option to get the hookworms 29x2.5 and they might be great for summer commute to work?

    Hey Darwin I just rescued my old shimano out of the rafters where it's been for the last 4 years. I put 12 miles on it today and man am I paying for it! Next stop is a new saddle and getting the seat height adjusted correctly. I played around with it some but ended up locking my legs for about the last 4 miles. It was way to hard on the old knees! Thanks for posting this video of your ride.

    well the avid BB7 are easy to repair on the road and are my brakes of choice on a touring bike. :) They work very well on the trail too. Good luck with your tektros :)

    • @wtfiswiththosehandles
      @wtfiswiththosehandles 5 лет назад

      Tektros don't break :) Seriously though, I had some tektro hydraulic brakes for 7-8 years on one bike and I never had to do any maintenance on them except for changing pads. But yeah, once hydraulics fail somewhere away from civilization, you're pretty much screwed.

    I think I've watched your video multiple times just salivating on your beautiful bike. I'm split between the ECR and the Salsa Fargo. Did you consider other bikes like the Fargo before you got the ECR? If you did, what made you choose the ECR as compared to other similar bikes? I mainly wanted a versatile bike that can go on all terrain and that's also practical for commuting to work on paved roads. I've been riding road bikes all my life and adventure/bikepacking is what I want to do in the near future. Great videos you put up by the way. Very Inspiring.

      Allan Gascon I just bought a Fargo 2 this fall- absolutely awesome. I was also road biased, and have done it all on the Fargo2 so comfortable fro road to gravel to singletrack mtb.

    • @DarwinOnthetrail
      @DarwinOnthetrail  7 лет назад +4

      Yeah man! The Fargo is a killer bike! I have found the same thing with the ECR. With a set of 700x42 wheels it becomes an Amazing Road touring bike as well. I Commute everyday work on it & take it out to do some "Gravel Grinder" rides on it as well. There is nothing this bike can't do! Thanks for Watching!

    Really thanks for such really good advice on how to build my new Monstercross Bike. Plans to custom build my Upland Leader 300 29er to a Monstercross Bike. And I will change the cycle name to Ghost as it pretty much suits Monster. I am following you on Instagram so as soon as I build my bike I will inbox a pic of it to you.

    Hi, thanks for the informative video. I watched because i a considering an ECR but I am concerned with two things; one, do those small gear rings provide a wide range of gears. Will I run out of gear going downhill, and two, are you noticeably slower with those wide tires?
    Thanks.

    Any thoughts on a 1x10 setup?
    I stayed with the Jones bars. I also went with Blackburn everything cages (2 on the fork, 2 on the down tube, one of those with hose clamps). Found an alpkit saddle bag on eBay and am back and forth on whether or not to pack anything under the handlebars.
    Took the bike all over the mountains in Ireland and definitely held its own. It's also the perfect bike for the streets here in New Orleans. Overall very satisfied with the bike! Can't wait to see your rig for the AT!

      I've debated a 1x set-up... It would be a nice gearing for the CDT or CT, but don't know if it would be as efficient on the AZT. I'm a bike drop bar fan, so the jones had to go for me! Thanks for Watching!

      Went to a 1x11 with a sunrace 11-46 cassette. Stayed with the original crank, swapped the 22t inner chainring to a 28t narrow-wide (surly's) and a bash guard on the outer. Sram rear derailleur. surly rear rack and 24pack rack. Bit heavy, but like the piece of mind that nothing is rattling loose.
      Excellent bike, still excited to ride it everyday a year later. It's my everything bike ready to find a trail at a moment's notice.

    Would be awesome if shops had these in to buy! Care to comment about an ECR compared to a fat bike in the desert washes (dry river beds) which are essentially sand and gravel? Reckon an ECR will float as well? How about energy needed to pedal an ECR compared to fat bike (similar tires)? Many thanks.

  • @littlegoobie

    yeah...i was wondering if the back wheel would stay in the middle of the track fork while pedalling with just the quick release holding it, but then i see at the end that the axle is now pushed all the way to the front.

    Sorry, bro. This video is a brief overview, NOT a full review, and CERTAINLY NOT IN-DEPTH. Since you virtually only point out its features, stock or aftermarket, there's only a drop or two of info, opinions, or value judgements that can't be found on a data sheet on their website. I want to know WHY you like it. WHAT do you like about it? WHY did you pick it over their other three bikepacking rigs (Troll, Ogre, Pugsley)? What DON'T you like about it? HOW does it fit your riding style? HOW is the handling? WHAT is the terrain like that you've used it on? HOW did it handle that? HOW did it handle that terrain VERSUS other bikes, if you have tried others out? WHAT are some considerations you'd like to point out for someone considering this bike or alternatives? I love your show but you really disappointed me with this video title, man. I would watch a video from you answering these questions in a heartbeat.

    • @hobowalker1
      @hobowalker1 7 лет назад +1

      Even with the knobbies on my Krampus road riding is pretty fun. It is smooth as butter but, not terribly fast! Also, using a Krampus as a commuter bike allows me to launch off stairs and ramps on my way to work as well as riding year round here in Montana. Seriously would recommend either bike.

    If this is specifically designed for bikepacking why did they make such a limited frame bag capacity size like this you would have thought they would have made it possible to put on a big frame bag because that's really a lot of storage in their water and everything so just kind of wondering what your thoughts are on that and why that's not anyting important the fact that they made such a small area

    • @wtfiswiththosehandles
